Yea Forums, I have a dumb question that I could not find anywhere anwered:
I'm thinking of buying a Xbox one controller to play on my pc, and I'd like to know if by using a cable I could use the controller WITHOUT any batteries. Until now, I've always played either by keyboard only, or keyboard+mouse. I do have a controller, but... It's not a good one, it has lots of mapping issues, and the d-pad feels just... Wrong. An opportunity has arisen for me to get a controller for a better price that I would find at my country, without needing to pay extra for shipping. I think I can spend around $60, tops, for the controller. Besides the Xbox controller, what are Yea Forums's recomendations? Thanks in advance. Also, feel free to use this thread to talk about perifericals for gaming, I could learn a thing or two.
I'm pretty sure you can use the cable without batteries. Just be sure it's a good cable or it'll jiggle and disconnect
Bentley Hernandez
U can use the xbone controller without battery via a cable
Dylan Hill
yes you dont need batteries if you have cable. I use one for dolphin.
Asher Phillips
Thanks, guys. Any there any other better options for PC controllers in this price range? Good US shops besides Amazon (I'm seeing the prices there).
Adam Phillips
There is no other controller for pc worth it anywhere near as much as X1. Even the PS4 controller is direct input and nowhere near as good, even with the trackpad as a mouse.
Ian King
Get an xbone or even just a wired 360 controller
Elijah Ortiz
Yeah, Xbone controllers can work as wired controllers if you plug them in.
Joshua Wood
You can get those cheap rock candy Xbox controllers and desu they work really well
Jose Turner
Yes, you can play wired without batteries.
Also, if you have the longer, older dongle you can use that on windows 7 as long as you don't have certain updates that kill the driver for the older, longer dongle. Microsoft taking the piss by pushing multiple updates that kill the same driver they released support for that dongle all in attempts that people upgrade to windows 10. Spineless snakes.
I bought the long, fat dongle when it first came out and Microsoft said at first that it was only windows 10. Then the dongle came out and they said it DID support 7, got one and it worked. Not even a year later they nuked it with updates and making it so that you can't install the driver because it WASN'T DIGITALLY SIGNED BY MICROSOFT.
I spent my labor day weekend finally getting this to work. Allow me to save you time from my frustration.

I'm not sure about the xboner controller, but I use a PS3 pad for PC games and it functions as a straight-up USB wired controller. No mucking about with bluetooth or the battery or anything.
Jaxon Hall
>Yeah, Xbone controllers can work as wired controllers if you plug them in. It just charges them, same with wireless 360 pads, no information is sent through the USB cable, you need a dongle

Was actually going to make a thread related to this, but since this one's already here: phantomriverstone.com/2019/08/4gamer-interview-with-yu-suzuki-at.html#more >YS: But while Shenmue 3 can be played by keyboard, personally I want people to play with a controller. That's because Shenmue 3 continues the series' tradition of having a game design with a lot of mini-games, and those mini-games have been built with a controller in mind: "at this point you pull a trigger", or "at that point you press a button", and so on.
>4Gamer: I see. Meaning that the choice of keyboard vs controller changes how the game feels to the touch when played.
>YS: Having said that, controllers can be divided roughly into two types.
>4Gamer: The layout of the analog stick and buttons differs between a Xbox-style and a PS4-style controller, doesn't it?
>YS: You know, I wish they'd do something about unifying them [laughs]. Do you think there will come a time when at least non-Nintendo consoles will standardize the controller? They already run on basically the same core AMD platform on the inside. It would certainly lighten the burden for developers.
Totally wrong, it works as a normal wired controller if plugged in and you don't even necessarily need a dongle to use it wirelessly
Luke Harris
Something else to keep in mind beyond what's been said, the control sticks on both the 360 and XBone controllers are more or less made of paper mache. The rubber pads will wear off merely from contact with your skin, the centering will loosen up, and after that the stick bases will degrade and harden up for lack of a better description. They'll physically stick, refuse to spring back, etc, and it's not from anything gunking them up. These controllers, sadly, are about the best game in town when it comes to using on on the PC, but count on having to buy a new one a year or two down the road or having to do a solder job to replace the sticks. Also, don't let anyone blow smoke up your ass about the XBone premium edition or whatever the fuck conditions with "performance" parts, the sticks still wear down and fail just as fast as the normal ones.

I've read that you can fuck the microusb port if you're not careful, so be aware of that.
>>Do you think there will come a time when at least non-Nintendo consoles will standardize the controller? Not anytime soon. Dualshock layout is part of the PS brand, and MS will never adopt it. One of them would have to die desu.
Christian Morales
not for 360
Luis Jackson
Get that one Logitech that's like 15 bucks it's pretty damn based
Josiah Evans
we're talking about xbox one controllers user
Mason Collins
I mentioned both
Owen Clark
>Any there any other better options for PC controllers in this price range? Logitech F310. Way cheaper. More robust. Better button placement. Supports Direct- and Xinput. All wired.
Nolan Diaz
alright, how about anything with analog triggers?
Joshua Ramirez
>triggers This zoomer shit need to die. They're L2 and R2 BUTTONS. Fuck triggers, they're just mushy and imprecise.
Andrew Lopez
guess I'll just play Trials with a fucking on/off switch for an engine then retard
Aiden Scott
>he can't play racing games with binary input who's the tard here? Just buy yourself a racing wheel + pedals if you're into dudebro shit like car games.
Charles Watson
>Racing game >Implying implications do some research before spouting garbage
I'll see into this Logitech F130, perhaps I could find it cheap around these parts.
Thanks for the info, user, and the selflessness. But, unfortunantely, my PC runs windows 10, and so far, I had not many problems, besides playing Ragnarok Battle Offline (the graphics look like crap...).
Robert Ward
You've yet to provide a single reason why this shitty ''trigger'' meme is necessary.
Ryder Brooks
I'm going to play Trials Evo right now with a 360 controller and there's nothing you can do about it
>I'll see into this Logitech F130, perhaps I could find it cheap around these parts. They're cheap everywhere. Quite literally half the price of MS' and Sony's shit. I have two myself, one from mid 00s and one newer variant, and both still perform magnificently after countless gaming hours and several violent drops.
Caleb Reyes
>Logitech F130 Are you sure it's F130, or it's F310?
Angel Wood
it's F310. There are some other variants, like the wireless F710 and the air-cooled "ChillStream", but those are more rare and expensive.
