I plugged in a PS3 controller to my computer. Steam detects it, you see it here clear as day, but I can't define layout, can't calibrate the sticks, and it does NOTHING in the controller games that I've tested it with.

OP here, I looked into it and the easiest way to get a PS3 controller working is to simply install PlaystationNow. I got it going. Controller is working in Sonic Mania on Steam, but still, I think Steam should've been nice enough to get the controller working for me if they're going to go through the trouble of identifying it in their client.

Sony likely doesn't want Valve to do that since it wouldn't encourage people to buy a PS4 controller, which IS customizable through Steam.
