Dunno why this keeps getting spun around like this, DS 1 and 2 were fine, 3 was the one EA decided to stick its greedy hands in with the whole 'Put muh microtransactions in or your studio is closed' they did what they said, and set a stupidly high sales figure and it bombed because people didn't like the changes. AND EA did end up closing Visceral, so do your homework on Dead Space next time you want to make a thread about how 'they forgot their own IP'
Not saying that they forgot their own IP, saying that we as gamers and consumers of media have seemed to completely forget about Dead Space. As you said, the first two games (I would include Extraction as well) are some of the best horror games ever made. It sucks that they were forced to ruin their own game, and after they did, their studio was shuttered and their series has just been kinda...forgotten.
Budget and marketing for 2 was retardedly high for the shit sales
>3 was the one EA decided to stick its greedy hands in with the whole 'Put muh microtransactions in or your studio is closed'
Pretty sure the game had more problems than just microtransactions and price. Like too much emphasis on multiplayer where the story suffered if you played it solo.
The Dead Space and FEAR franchises both suffered the same fate, and it fucking kills me.
>1 was groundbreaking and amazing
>2 built on 1
>3 was a multiplayer-focused dumpster fire
I'm so sad
>the things EA made the devs add were bad for the game
wow imagine my shock
some ex-visceral devs came out and talked about the original design of the 3rd game, go figure the co-op shit was tuned way up by EA, as was the inclusion of human enemies and that shitty cover gunfight bullshit everywhere. Not saying Visceral's game would have been as good as 1 or 2 but jesus EA couldn't have fucked with 3 more if they tried
Resident Evil was almost completely ruined because of this shit. When will the industry learn that horror games don’t sell when they aren’t scary, and shit’s not scary when you have a buddy around.
>tfw the only person who likes 3 so much was John Carpenter
I've never been so conflicted in my life
