PSA for game devs:
If you want to make a greatsword to be fun for a player, give it to a waifu

Greatswords aren't designed like axes at all. They don't handle the same, swing the same, feel the same in the grip, weigh as much.

This is like saying a speedboat should move like an escalator.

You nigger need to play Outward.

Wouldn't a greatsword only feel like an axe if you were holding it by the blade so all the weight was on the other end?

None of this sounds good

Yeah but nobody cares about that, it's not like there's many games that have realistic greatswords either way.
What made me have this thought today was using Dante's Devil Sword in MHW in axe mode, the greataxe animations and huge impacts felt so satisfying with a fuck ass gigantic sword.

Made me really wish more stupid oversized greatswords like the ones in Dark Souls for example could have this much impact to their swings.

>equip longsword
>it's just a onehanded sword
I hate how this is the norm. It's like picking up a weapon called 'rifle' and it's just a pistol.

Why? But the greatsword feels like a greatsword.

An axe is something that needs a big, ponderous windup to apply all the force into the very end of it. A sword is something you slash with and can use the entire length of the blade. A lot of the blade movement comes more from pivoting.

The whole muh greatsword impact is basically wrong.

If you want muh impact, get a maul.

Again, my advice to Outward stands.
