hey you can't post that on here

> 5 months studying Japanese at a Japanese institute in Japan
> still can't build a simple sentence to express what I want or what's wrong to a Japanese person
Well this was a gigantic waste of time. I was planning on staying a full year but thank god my trip is being cut short. I want to go home.

If you study kanji along the rest of the kanji then it's going to take at least 3 times longer.
Self study is always better maybe start studying really hard on your own, go to /djt/ in /int/ or /jp/ and read the guide posted on the OP to see how to effectively learn on your own.

Three years of self-study and feeling like I wasn't improving at all is what made me take the leap towards a Japanese school in Japan. They threw me in the very first level and I realized I didn't know shit about anything. Self-study is a fucking meme.

I'm sure I would reach a decent level of Japanese if I stuck through the entire course, but after 5 months of making no friends, no girlfriend, no job, absolutely no prospects since my degree doesn't translate here etc. I just don't see the point of being here anymore.

Brainlet.

and a ching chong nip nong to you too young lady

You sound like a retarded fuckup, honestly. 4 years of self-study here, I can read and watch anything I want.

Language schools are for literal retards like yourself who want to waste a shitload of money, especially when if you're dumb enough to go to Japan you can just get an ALT job and get just as much immersion while also getting paid.

>considering living in japan for awhile
>literally can't read or speak any japanese
This'll be fine.

>ALT job
English is not my native language so I'd require certifications for that and I'm honestly not willing to go through that shit. I'm already over 30 years old.

yikes

I'm glad I passed JLPT1 when I was like 21

yeah. When there's not a speck of hiragana or Katakana, it's safe to assume it is Chinese

I don't know japanese very well and still have trouble identifying some hiragana and katakana, but if you read a full sentence in Japanese you'll often notice that it's always a mix of kanji and hiragana. I suppose the kanji is for common nouns and names, and the hiragana might be articles/verbs. I don't know much so that's my conjecture

HONG KONG BELONG TO CHINA
TAIWAN BELONG TO CHINA
JAPAN BELONG TO CHINA

When I was living in Japan I came across an Japanese lady that spoke like this to me. I looked at a younger Japanese dude and he seemed just as confused as I was. We both just laughed. She was a cute old woman but she was rambling on about something I had no fucking clue about.

A quick copy-paste into google translate tells me 过度 isn't supposed to be japanese so I guess the joke here is that it's a slip from a Chinese poster pretending to be a real 日本人 and telling me that I think too much?

I know that ya simp.

don't make fun of me! or else!

It's because Japan has basically deemed what would be considered distinct languages "dialects" so they can erase them with impunity.

TV basically killed all these languages anyway, because kids grow up learning tokyoite Japanese from the TV and barely remember their native "dialect", which is treated as something embarrassing that marks them as a country bumpkin.

Give it another 50 years and these things won't exist.

Will China kill me?

I know that's not a good thing, but as a foreigner I can't help but feel a sense of relief, as it will make understanding other Japanese people even easier for me.

>Give it another 50 years and these things won't exist.
Sadly it's true
Only Kansai people use their language now because they believe their "dialect" is true Japanese and look down Tokyo people

If only it would happen to ebonics too.

The English equivalent.
youtube.com/watch?v=le_uNGdpa4c

>5 months
You can't learn any language in 5 months, you can maybe become conversational in Dutch but that's about it

You mean the basketball american dialect like"shiiiiet nigga dis ho's low-key hot" ?

I don't fucking get this mindset, it's the same thing with Chinese. Complex characters are easy to understand if you understand the root characters like in the image above. Even if you don't fully grasp the meaning of the character, by breaking down the quadrants and checking the radical you can context-read unfamiliar words just fine. It's far better to come across a larger unknown character than a smaller one, same as how in English it's easier to break down a word with a lot of prefixes and suffixes than a really short unfamiliar word.

>Only Kansai people use their language now because they believe their "dialect" is true Japanese and look down Tokyo people
I mean they are somewhat correct there considering kansai was the heart of Japan in pretty much all respects until the modern era, then kantofags have turned into the haughty snooty types stereotypically speaking
I've listened to that enough times I can actually get the gist of her babbling, but that's still hilarious

that about sums up how the old Japanese woman sounded to me Could not understand a Goddamn thing.

>le immersion meme
This only works if you already have a fundamental understanding of the language and can already communicate. If you don't, people speaking Japanese may as well be white noise to you, you aren't going to learn to read like that either, unless you have someone you're living with who will dedicate their time to speaking with you, which you won't.

二年間に日本語を学んでいるのに、変態同人を翻訳するのはだけ出来ます。
可哀想かな?

This

The speak and use the language from the very first day is a bunch of bullshit that is literally impossible, you have to get to at least pre intermediate before doing that.

translation into the mother tongue is easy

I'm actually an American and using Google translate to fuck with people.

>literally impossible
How do you think linguists learned small isolated languages? Magic?

low iq retard didn't get the point of my post.

It's an impossibly arduous task that requires an extensive knowledge of linguistics. Read Daniel Everett's 'Don't Sleep, There are Snakes', the missionaries before him spent 20 years in the Amazon trying to learn Pirahã and they came home with nothing. Once you're over 16 your brain doesn't work like a sponge the way you may think.

>tfw can only speak English
Which other language do I start learning? Japanese or Italian

Attached: mehhh.png (656x709, 648K)

Italian, you'll never learn Japanese

if it's between those two italian, though imo spanish or french are the outright easiest to learn

Both, Italian will literally be 5 to 10 times easier than Japanese so you might as well learn both.

Learning Japanese was fun, I wish I could forget it so I could do it all over again. 誰だって出来る。皆で仲良く上手になろう。

Reminder

I want a version of this where Japanese is classed as the easiest language because it's the only one worth learning, and everything else is classed as "close to impossible" because who the FUCK would ever want to learn French?

What fucking planet are you on?

>Swedish
>Norwegian

I didn't even know those language existed

Burger?

>literally living in Japan at the moment cant learn enough Kanji to pass even the lowest test, but can finally speak quite casual

Unironically I'm not interested in their culture so I don't care about reading novels or their untranslated manga and listening to anime has not been a problem in years.

not him but this looks like a really interesting read, thanks

either actual retard or zero motivation, in which case why study?

>anki
is a godsend. Makes studying so much better. Can also recommend WaniKani if you want to shell out "a few" bucks. Though there is also a complete Anki deck floating around the interwebs...

aniki?

it mentions thousands of characters for japanese but by the time you've learned hiragana and katakana which most give up before even that you're basically set and can study kanji at your own leisure

I thought french was supposed to be hard

Anki.

the only "hard" thing is learning Kanji which takes years. Grammar is piss easy. Also
>German missing

Every language is hard, this list is comparative

>>the only "hard" thing is learning Kanji which takes years.
Kanji take a couple of months. The "hard" part is learning 20k vocab with very few common roots.

How do you interact to the people there if you dont know shit?

Thank you for coming to Japan, hope you enjoyed your stay! Baka gaijin...

I started learning almost 4 months ago.

>learning the kana and working through Tae Kim took 2 months
>10 words a day everyday in Core2K once I learned the kana
>study 12 kanji a day with KKLC + anki deck (I'm taking a couple of weeks to consolidate the first 1000 before continuing)
>slowly working through Hanahira and the Konosuba LN (30-60 m a day) + mining deck

I look forward to the day I can leave TRANSlations behind.

You can barely live where you are now. What makes you think it would be better in a country you can't read, write, or speak the native language of? For what purpose do you even want to live there?

my point still stands retard

>I can read and watch anything I want.

>drop their entire life
What life? I didn't exactly drop anything to come here. I'm going back to my shithole next month with a plan in mind but if that fails I'll just come to Japan again and work as a waiter or something.

You need to distance yourself from whoever told you that, they're braindead

wrong

I have almost $200k saved.
Japan seems neat so I want to try living there.

EOPs constantly tell themselves that it's somehow "harder", or even more laughably, "impossible" to learn another language once you're past some random age like 5, 15, or 25.

It's an excuse they've developed so they have a reason not to learn. Because, after all, it's no longer POSSIBLE for them to learn, right? They'd do it if it were possible, obviously, but now that they're 18 their brain is all dried up and no longer works good, so they have no choice but to put off learning Japanese until their deathbed.

anime reaction posters are proof humanity will never reach other stars

Go find me a 5 year old who is fluent in their fucking native language, dude. Imagine taking 5 years to learn 3 languages poorly.

I'm not talking about physical life you dipshit. Before coming to Japan I didn't have any friends, acquaintances, real estate, job or anything I could have "dropped" so get your head out of your ass.

I think 200k would go faster than you'd think. most of it would probably get flushed just moving and acquiring housing in a new country. how long did it take you to save that much, and what kind of work did you do?

I started learning at 30. Any age-related brain deficit is offset by having a better attitude and perspective towards language learning.

Ok, janitor or making beds. Anything's better than what I currently have: nothing. I hear they ask for a college degree even for low-skilled jobs but I have that so I think I'm good.

>they will absolutely have a harder time than a child.
This is more because adults don't have parents who will baby them and correct every mistake.

You can achieve functional fluency as an adult far faster than a child. The problem is that many adults achieve a level at which they're understood, and never really progress from that point because there's no pressing need for it. That's why lots of foreigners have bad English despite living in English speaking countries for decades, because they can hold a basic conversation and that's all they need.

>Before coming to Japan I didn't have any friends, acquaintances, real estate, job or anything I could have "dropped"
and now that you've been to Japan, you still don't have any of those things
who has their head in their ass now kiddo?

Attached: 1561171024956.gif (540x540, 558K)

I didn't say fluent, but by that age children have an advanced understanding of their own language and can understand practically anything that is said to them, or can at least question the meaning of the words they didn't understand

Pretty good job and low expenses.
Little over two years, I'm programmer and autistic about spending money.

Attached: umr.jpg (236x197, 10K)

Given the kinds of languages most bilingual and trilingual kids learn, learning 3 languages in 2 years is pretty trivial for an adult.

did you go to school for programming?

Ok so you're trolling, good to know

I've occasionally considered learning Japanese, but I've always given up before starting. From a quick read of one of those DJT guides it seems very hard to learn and I haven't done any proper learning of stuff since I dropped out of university almost a decade ago. Everything up to that point put me off most if not all forms of self study.
I figure any attempt would just fail like

Attached: aiportrait.png (3065x506, 1.48M)

ya

I doubt any of those Japanese with GRORIOUS JAPANESE EDUCATION DEGREES are aiming for low-skilled 1000yen/h jobs every single company is desperate to fill with employees so I think I'm good.

You're a fucking retard, after 2 years I can read VNs with minimal dictionary usage
