I just want a good 3D Sonic game... Is it just too much to ask for?
I just want a good 3D Sonic game... Is it just too much to ask for?
I want tails to be my husband
20 years and 13 games in, I think we can say with absolute certainty
Yes. Yes, it is too much to ask for.
sonic was always bad
A lot of these Sonic "concept" games look really cool when it comes to movement but it's always the same, homing is shit but without homing trying to fight enemies is shit. And if you have to actually touch rings to collect them it's also really fucking unfulfilling.
name 1 flaw with sonic adventure 2
you can't
Utopia has a homing attack and it doesn't slow you down.
>And if you have to actually touch rings to collect them it's also really fucking unfulfilling.
That makes no sense, I think you have this backwards.
I have to play the main story to get resources for the chao garden
That's fine, but only if you stop people from drawing TailsxRouge shit
Half the sonic levels are shit, and anything that isn't a Sonic (or Shadow) level is shit.
The Tails/Robotnic levels are a bit shit, and the Knuckles/Rouge levels are MEGA shit
learn to reuse glitch
Tails is fucking trash. Eggman was a bit more enjoyable and sensable, but it could have been better executed
Knuckles was decent, but the idea is flawed. Something like hunting should be built into a collectathon type of game, like a Banjo Kazooie level design. As is, it's adverage for the time, but aged a bit. Rouge was the worse of it.
Sonic and Shadow is the only good parts of the game that isn't a Tamagachi simulator, but even then, Shadow was just a clone with two stolen levels, so it's really just Sonic in SA2 that was good, which still had some early 3D gaming issues tying it down.
Sonic's movement is way better in SA1. He's both faster and easier to control (outside of the awful scripted parts that always glitch out)
Oh sure, you make a Green Hill Zone level that's all wide-open space and the occasional monster, and of course it's gonna look good!
Now build a Chemical Plant or Casino Nights zone that's dense with obstacles and spikes and enemies, and watch the concept just fall apart
Unironically yes. You can't have good level design, good physics, AND fast platforming at the same time.
The treasure hunting stages get too big.
>You can't have good level design, good physics, AND fast platforming at the same time.
Lost World doesn't have fast platforming and it's still shit on the other two points.
>And if you have to actually touch rings to collect them it's also really fucking unfulfilling.
Zoomer post aside, it's the only thing I'll give LW for introducing, but I think it's over compensated. It's only a issue at fast moving speeds, not going at a snails pace. The idea is ok, but I think the execution could look a bit more seamless and doesn't just look like Sonic has a big hitbox for collecting rings he clearly didn't even touch to get.
???
One, chemical plant is a pretty open stage with lots of one slopes and set pieces
Two, Utopia has a labyrinth zone section with lots of spikes, small corridors and wall running that all work well
Is the dev of this active?
>Now build a Chemical Plant or Casino Nights zone that's dense with obstacles and spikes and enemies, and watch the concept just fall apart
It worked ok in Generations and Robo Blast 2
The whole game feels like an awful scripted part.
We've already had one. It was the best Sonic game ever made too.
This game would have benefited having controls that get less sensitive when going really fast but stay snappy when going slow.
The Dreamcast version looks better.
NOT the best ever made. It’s the best 3D Sonic but not the best Sonic.
>1. Sonic 3K
>2. Sonic Mania
>3. Sonic Adventure 2
>4. Sonic 2
>5. Sonic Generations
Just my opinion
based
Yeet
I like 3&K a lot but Mania makes really makes me wish it had the drop dash
Literally all of the moon/space levels are shit.
Playing a watered down version of E-102 via Tails/Robotnik is shit.
No more hub world.
Getting all the Emblems just for a half-assed Meme Hill Zone felt like a shit deal.
There isn't NEARLY enough info given to you in-game or in the manual to explain how to properly take care of Chao.
The VA comes off as awkward as hell to the point of being memetic due to Sonic Team's localization efforts being rushed out the door before any semblance of QA was done.
The racing mini-game is absolute shit.
The vs. Battle Mode is forgettable.
Adventure 2 Battle for the GCN was ironically a DOWNGRADE from the DC version in terms of visual presentation and even OST.
Would have benefited from an extra year in the oven and a robust QA team.
> tfw there doesn't exist a definitive version of this game
The dremcast version is missing a bunch of content from Battle
The GC Battle has fucked up graphics and missing effects, shaders
The PC version of Battle (2012) is even worse with missing fog.
To make matters worse no DC emulator runs SA2 with perfect accuracy. There's always something glitching out such as the character's eyes breaking.
Thank god for the mod community for making the PC version of SADX almost perfect. Too bad there's no such interest for SA2.
I'll give you that, too.
Supposedly. We haven't heard anything about the project since January though.
how can you play those garbage 2d games where you can only see 10 pixels infront of you and any time you get hit it's from an enemy that appeared on screen 2 frames ago
Because Sonic AIR exists for mouth-breathing retards like you who try to hold right to win.
Memorization
Zoomers, everyone.
Changes in level design convey enemy placement.
Yes.
Boomers hated him because he spoke the truth.
Zoomers believe them because based Arin said so.
Can we all agree that all of the Sonic games are neat, expect 06 & Boom?
At this point yes. Iizuka's team barely cares or knows how to make Sanic games outside of linear boostans anymore, SEGA's too satisfied with their gambling money to notice, and now even the spinoffs and comics got mandated into the same level of bland because why not? The merch sells just enough anyways apparently. And that's all without mentioning Hollywood's incoming shitdump.
On the flipside, all the modders and gamedevs who actually throw together better, more-accurate Sonic concepts usually run out of time, money or interest within a year or two. All the best ones got bought into Evening Star, who may or may not continue with Sonic at all.
Conceptually? Give or take, but that's seems to be all Sonic's "good" at, being impressionable.
Nice racing game you posted there.
What are some 3D sonic fangames anyway?
All I know of is SRB2, it's kart game, the one OP posted and Sonic World
project hero
It's not hard to imagine a contrained but non-linear explorable adaptations, hell I've even seen video concepts actually aknowledge the problems and possible solutions for converting more-open pinball physics into 3D while retaining a fast pace.
Ones you can actually play are Sonic Islands, and the recent on Sonic GT. There's a boost one called Sonic Infinity as well
Ooo, I'd love to see these examples. Care to share?
Green Hill Paradise and Utopia, if you don't mind incomplete proof-of-concepts.
It's not because you can't succeed at the 3 that you also can't fail at the 3
