What's your opinion on monks as a rpg class?

Nice thread, cumskull
Raped by Goblins!
They usually fall flat in JRPGs because combat isn't visceral enough.
Either completely worthless or horrifically overpowered with no middle ground.
Monks are cool in RPGs in general.
Except in Baldur's gate

Depends on the race you pick. Playing an elf monk seems like a waste of time.
You can still have entertaining animations with them

Best physical attacker class in DQ3. Warrior, thief and merchant aren't even close.

Monk/Champion was my favorite class in Ragnarok. Cheesing people with asura strike was really fun, and the class was genuinely good beside asura cheese with finger offensive.
Why do they always use some form of knuckles? Why can’t they just use their bare hands? It’s already they’re weapon.
DQ3 Fighter uses Claws
I'm surprised staves were not an option
>ff3 monk

Later Dragon Quest titles have bare fists as a separate weapon skill, it's decent for early game, but obviously doesn't scale into late game at all. The answer is scaling, RPGs are all about growing stronger and finding new snazzy gear, if you remove that from a class entirely playing it won't feel as fun as the other classes, because you know you're not gonna use whatever dropped for you.
