rpgmaker combat engine is roughly 70th percentile for rpgs. status ailments and stat boosts are reasonably balanced, which is more than most rpgs can say.

This is sadly true. It still doesn't change the fact that even "70th percentile" combat is still garbage though. What I would give to see a 'real' JRPG with as much thought put into its mechanics as Cross Code.
