He didn't specify ALL of them, but rather that you shouldn't expect third parties to begin with. Like you said, Megaman and Sonic at the very least seem like shoe-ins, and Pacman provided Namco helps with the game again.

Third party's have over stayed their welcome. Quite frankly, guest characters in fighting games in general has become more of an annoyance to me in general.

They should keep as much of the current roster as they can for the next installment.
As for newcomers, since there are very few interesting Nintendo characters left I say add the few that exist, a few third parties and just update the current cast. Some veterans are overdue for a new moveset

A few notes: I actually removed 41, because I would really just make Luigi into a Mario echoe in the remake, plus Yoshi would cease to be a character and become a ride that everyone in the game could use.

By the way, if he's gonna to cut down the roster by half and remake the game, I'd rather it be a tridimensional fighter, like Pokken Tournament, than just another Smash. Let's face it, Ultimate is as good as this game is ever gonna get. There is no improving it - so changing it completely is the only path.

Honestly, I would be fine with not getting another Smash game as long as Ultimate keeps getting updates and perhaps even a season 2 for DLC.
