BG2, morrowind, and witcher 3 are in the top 10 as well so that's clearly not the case

Dark Souls is a great game but I hardly consider it to an RPG. It's more like a 3D Castlevania, that is, an action-adventure game with stats and equipment.
All of those games are pretty good regardless. A good list of recommendations.
