I generally play on one difficulty above Normal whenever I start off, because Normal in most games is way too easy. For example, I am currently playing Darksiders Warmastered for the first time and I'm playing on Apocalyptic difficulty. It feels just right in terms of challenge. I can't even imagine how much easier Normal difficulty is.

Kind of like how I play all my Souls games for my first playthrough with a set list of restrictions to simulate a difficulty above Normal difficulty. So I do things like no co-op, no leveling beyond what is necessary to be able to one-hand my weapon, no medium or greatshields and so on.

Because when you are a kid you read harry potter. When you mature, you don't read harry potter anymore. you read something, hopefully more mature or challenging.

I don't play on hard for "macho" reasons, I play on hard because if I played on normal or easy it would diminish my enjoyement of the game.
