How do i enjoy this?
Feels like i'm doing everything wrong.
Not the games fault.
How do i enjoy this?
You should've played at least 3 or 4 before
Don't spam.
I was like you at first, but eventually you'll get it after playing some time. Take your time, evade, and attack.
Just try to be cool
Just play stylish
Play them in order
Skip 2 and the reboot though
How?
It's the easiest game in the series.
If you haven't played any DMC before then it's understandable.
Tbf you can't really play the game right till you unlock all the moves.
It's not like i can't progress. It just feels like nothing flows very well and that it's my fault. I'm only 2h into the game tho
You're probably either only using your basic 4 hits combo or using moves that sends enemies far away like your dash attack or electric hand, the idea of DMC is that there's no pre-baked combos and you make your own shit by stringing together your individual moves
>Nothing flows well
Like combo wise? What are you having trouble linking?
Have you unlocked any moves? People who are deep into the games seem to habitually forget that the starting kit is pretty barebones, especially Nero’s and V’s (Dante’s is a little better in 5 when he starts than in, say, 3).
beacuse you are. but you will get better at it.
Rebind shooting to L2. L1 is lock on, R2 is revving, R is a jump. This way you can always charge up your shots, and it's easier to combine different moves into strings.
This
I'm only 2 hours into the game (of which almost 1h was cutscenes) so i've only unlocked the level 2 grapple and the sprint between combat.
also the game crashed on me once so i had to redo part of the second mission.
so it's just that the basic kit is very barebones huh
Jumping gives the most i-frames so use that as your primary way to dodge attacks
does gerbera dodge have i-frames?
Yeah. As someone who'd played all the previous DMC games it definitely took a little while until I felt like I could start doing the shit I wanted to do. Nero is very beginner friendly and the game makes a conscious decision not to throw people into the deep end, for better or for worse depending on your perspective. Once you start unlocking more devil breakers for Nero and get more of his moves the game starts to give you a lot more freedom to experiment. When you get to Dante the gameplay shines the brightest with his multiple weapons and styles. Things will start to come together for you, it's just a bit of a "slow" start.
It does but you need to be careful with it. If you get hit at the start of the dodge it'll break. I usually use it in the air to get away from boss attacks or ranged enemies attacks.
Focus on getting attacks first, mainly the cheap ones since they're the very basic essential shit
Nero's whole thing is kind of about mobility. Using attacks to close the distance.
Unfortunately the character is kind of boring unless you spend time learning exceed timing, then he is ridiculously fun
Utility wise you should focus on Streak, Split, High Roller and Air Hike close behind.
with nero i'd recommend practicing getting jump cancel timing down especially in the air after caliburs
i raelly don't get the exceed timing to be honest.
like, i know that you have to rev after an attack but i don't know when exactly. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. wish there was controller vibration feedback or something.
yeah i'll do that. only got the sprint first because the game is honestly ridiculously boring between combat sections where you just run around in corridors and hit red pinatas.
i want to fucking fight
Yeah, pretty much. I think it's pretty smart that the game doesn't give you all the options at the start, especially if you're a beginner. That way you unlock the moves YOU want and learn them at your own pace. Giving you more options with what you can open with, chain into, and follow-up from with every new move.
>so it's just that the basic kit is very barebones huh
My heart fills with dread just thinking about starting a new game
Exceed timing is at the end of every attack, when the animation completes.
The style meter and the fact it starts to drop when you don't attack makes you think you should be attacking all the time. That's not true. Don't rush. Style will come with time.
is it just me or is fighting vergil on the higher difficulties a bit boring? the windows you get to attack him in go waaaaaay down especially by the third phase and royal blocking his slashes gets tiresome after a while
I can't seem to find a stylish way to fight him as Dante on DMD during the second phase.
With Nero it's a lot of fun tho cause punchline and blue rose are so broken against him
there are a lot more opportunities to attack him then you think. For example, on dmd i found that you can just trick to him when he starts his judgement cut
DSD summoned swords is easy mode to get attacks on him
Have you tried prepping Round-trips when he's about to do mid air JCs? They'll usually chip off good damage and stun him long enough when he touches the floor for you to get a combo in
>Feels like i'm doing everything wrong.
Mashing the wrong button?
damn looks like a completely different game
guess i'll not refund and just slog through the early hours.
how long does it approximately take to unlock all the fun?
>using the grab move to set them up for Punchline's Breakage
Holy fuck I've never thought about that. I never use that grab because I could never use it effectively.
Same. He gets super overwhelming in his last section. I had to (sorta) cheese my way past him in DMD by farming DT with Royal Guard and just Sin DTing his ass until he died.
Eh, it'll probably take two playthroughs to unlock everything (minus the Ex Taunts), but you should have a solid Nero by mission 8 if you buy the right moves. Don't bother buying upgraded versions of moves until later.
its one thing unlocking all the moves but its another being able to stylishly use them. I'm 80 hours and i'm just starting to get actually good with dante
you dont even have any tools before a few hours into the game
that being said there is no right or wrong way to play dmc really, it's all about figuring out what you think is cool and just doing it
Depends entirely on how much Red Orbs you grind for and how smartly you spend them. That said you should have Nero probably 50/75 percent complete by mission 8 iirc. V's movepool is shallow but fairly expensive and Dante has an absolute fuck ton to buy.
Not that long, a few moves and Enemy Step, which is a bit expensive, is enough to do some pretty crazy stuff, having those moves however in no way means you'll be dancing around in the air like a DBZ character, DMC has one of the highest skill ceilings on any action game so really it's a matter of experimenting a lot. It's the kind of game that beating it once is just the beginning
The moves are approximately priced according to how "core" they are to your moveset. The ones that are 5000 or less should be gotten ASAP.
Try to never use the same combo more than once consecutively. Jump liberally.
Launch enemies and follow them, kill them in the air, then grapple someone else to you mid-air and kill them too.
It's awkward to get into but it pays off.
I'd recommend rebinding the shoot button to a trigger you can passively hold down as you play and release the Color-Up at will, as well as charging them constantly.
This.
