Nobody ever plays campaign after beating it once. Nobody. The core endgame selection is:

Raids
Gambit
Crucible
Nightfalls
Menagerie

All of which play differently and rely on different mechanics. I can see why you’d have that misconception if you solely base it off the campaign.

Most of the people who shit on Destiny in general are those who probably stopped playing not too long after launch or after the minor DLCs launched.
I can't really blame them since both D1 and 2 didn't get "good" until their first major expansions launched.

My friend bought my D2+Forsaken so I've only spent money on the annual pass and it's pretty good.

Trust me I followed the development closely. It pains me that they let Staten go because his supercut probably told a story head and shoulders above anything we’ve gotten so far, but the game was basically a watered down linear Halo 2.0 for a teen audience.

Played through Dedstinky 1 all the way, completed all the content. Then I got the sequel for free from my graphics card. I thought it was strange that nearly all the progress from the last two expansions of D1 was gone and in some areas it had gone backwards from launch D1. Then I realized the people who actually salvaged D1 weren't the people who made D2. I read these D2 apologists and all I see is history repeating itself, they are going through the exact same cycle D1 players did. Even if they realize it they somehow delude themselves into thinking it's acceptable because "well it got better now!", even though it's just the game trying to catch up with what the previous game did years ago. As far as I know the game still lacks basic functionality such as a trading system or a chat system on par with what we had in fucking 2004.

With a more linear structure and none of the blatant content cuts, I imagine we'd have much more "supplementary" content akin to things like Forge/Theater that Halo had. Maybe even the Space battle mode bungie tried to implement in Reach and D1.

Then we get a nice story, the interesting universe isn't wasted on grinding simulator, and more interesting things to do than repeat the same content over and over since 2014. everyone's happy.
