My opinion is that the story was a 6/10 (too much forced emotional moments). The last zone saved it from failure. Now for the MMO part its pretty tame. I am maxed out with 440 gear and did Titania and Innocence EX. I am out of things to do and have nothing else to do to make my character OP (customization wise). Kind of. You also have to also make sure both your special GCDs (Drill/BB and Hot Shot/AA) are literally always on CD, because the DPS loss from letting them wait is big and you have to be careful not to overcap on heat. Also, you need to keep an eye on the Battery gauge.

aside from being cute cameos, the final bosses of the post-game dungeons are pretty fun and interesting imo. still fucking easy unless you're retarded tho.

once you're out of ARR and into Heavensward the game actually picks up. keep in mind that ARR is the result of Yoshida's team salvaging the fucking shitheap that is 1.0 which was dumped on their lap, rehauling most of the game, and making an entirely new story for 2.0 with a limited budget that was being siphoned into other projects. with that in mind, you can see why the padding is there, and why the post-ARR pre-HW questlines are stalling for time too.

Crystal is not a meme. I started leveling my alt on Crystal and EVERY single party is godawful. Every other DPS does half my DPS at best. Almost every healer never DPSes. Every tank either big pulls, but never pops any defensive CDs or never big pulls and doesn't even use one AOE skill to get aggro on the other two mobs in the pack.
I have not had a single other DPS do respectable damage in a shadowbringers dungeon.

Essentially unless you play with a group of friends, since XI is such an old game you'll be pretty much doing everything except the last few story fights with trusts since the game is so old, the majority of the story content is balanced around a lower level cap and the majority of people still playing only care about grinding for their next shiny.
There's a HUGE variety of trusts available to choose from though, since the vast majority of notable NPCs have a trust version now.

SB is shit but it's easily the most important expansion plot-wise user. We finally resolve a bunch of dangling plot points about the Amigos and Domans, learn a ton of shit about the empire's workings, and it sets up all the plot for Shadowbringers and likely the next expansion or two after Shadowbringers as well.

For the story it would not work. Too much shit is broken on private servers. Believe me, I tried.

Stormblood's story sucked, but its gameplay changes were for the most part better. Don't forget that before Stormblood Cleric Stance was still around, Shirk didn't exist, and while a lot of classes like DRG might have had a higher skill cap, they were way more clunky.

yes, it's very worth playing. you could probably run through the main storylines in a few months with npc trusts, though joining others isn't impossible. it also does not hold your hand for quests and stuff, where a lot of the older quests can be really obtuse.

Magic Knight and Chemist are two of the big ones without a real XIV equivalent.
You could argue RDM takes that spot, but it doesn't do a lot of magic swordfighting, whereas Magic Knight is almost entierly about magic enhanced swordfighting.

There is still an abundance of Tanks and leveling a Tank is still faster than a DPS so I'd say boost BRD level PLD.

Same for me, Stormblood areas look very simple, and all the old japanese theme it had going on really put me off, I'm not a fan of that setting, however the story does pick up at maybe patch 4.2, after you finish Byakko.
Shadowbringers takes you to a whole different setting, more high fantasy than the base game, I'd say don't skip and try to bear it for a little more as the story does pay off

WoW is very bad at estethics/presenting bosses, so it's normal, you have to play them to enjoy it. Just like a WoW player would say for any of the XIV fights.
But to be honest I used to raid on WoW and fights are just a long slog and nothing else, feels like ages to reach another boss' phase.
But some boss design are incredibly cool and fights are generally more varied

I hope they don't resort to nerfing Dragoon, and instead buff other melee jobs.

Wtf this has been a 6 year long month for me then. Eon become instant indeed

NIN numbers are low but it plays fine. Numbers will probably be adjusted up before the first raid series. DNC is in a similar boat, though in a different way since NIN is hard and DNC is braindead.
DRG is the best DPS by every metric right now and will likely get potency nerfed before the first raid lands but it'll probably stay decent at least for the entire expansion. I'd hold off on making any big leaps until the raid patch when we know what's going to be good and what's not.

Anyways, ShB is solid so far. MSQ is the best it's ever been, and the best Final Fantasy has had in a long time. Not much gameplay to gauge yet but what there is is solid.

GNB is so disproportionately fun compared to the other tanks and some of the DPS that it's not even fair. At first I was mad there were so many FOTM GNBs, but I can't blame anyone in the same way I couldn't blame people switching to SAM en mass during SB. The expansion classes really benefit from a modern design from the ground up compared to the ARR jobs that have stuff tacked on to try to bring them up to speed.

At this point, I don't even want new jobs for the next expansion, I want a overhaul of all the existing ones. Bring everyone up to date for the current meta rather than tacking on extra shit that doesn't even work well as a bandaid fix, let alone make the jobs that much more fun to play.
