What went wrong?
What went wrong?
the time.
that age is over
boy I sure love hitting mobs for 90000 years to get 1% experience
whoops i died from a mob train being dumped on my face, looks like i need to start hitting mobs for 90000 years again
hey look a shitty card dropped this time.
The artstyle and the soundtrack are the only amazing things about RO.
The game itself was just a glorified chatroom simulator that, thanks to mostly to timing, managed to attract like-minded players and create a community that can't be recreated even with a "Classic" server.
We grew up
This. It was a combination of being young + anime culture just taking off + Asian centric MMO that made it magical.
that's because no one talks in MMOs anymore. It can be a full server in a game and the chat is still dead besides a couple shitposters if you're lucky.
is there a MMO alive today that resembles it?
Tree of Savior but it's mostly dead and was never much fun outside the same artstyle.
I think the lack of casual conversations mid-grinding is an inevitable consequence rather than the main reason why things changed. People were different back then, many things changed since the release of the first set of popular MMOs.
There also tons of different factors like the growing popularity of external communication tools (especially voice chat), changes on combat gameplay demanding more inputs from the players (less time to use the text-only ingame chat), global releases (instead of localized releases per region) increasing the playerbase but also creating stronger language barriers, and so on.
tfw just want a MMO to play that's fun to explore with good variety in itemization/builds and classes, that isn't a rush to the max level and instead is more about leveling however you like (instead of shitty fetch quests) and has an emphasis on grouping
Brazil
This. Grindy fucking bullshit.
literally me
this
That and you just dont need to anymore. They're more meant to do things by yourself with other people around now. Like a single player game with "smart" NPCs.
My whole teenage year span wasn't enough to enjoy this game, I want to go back.
Dofus
I tried playing but it's so ancient. I like Wakfu better but the server merge is still far away
>so ancient
What do you mean by that? It's still updated. Just got a big patch with some class balance fix. It checks all your boxes especially when it comes to variety. Game forces ppl to play in group (or with multiple characters). Leveling is more of a rush to cap nowadays but level "tiers" are still very active with ppl selling gear etc. Dragon eggs are the best progression system as you get them while leveling and they are still strong at cap.
>Wakfu
Never got into it but heard a lot of good things. Too bad it's just flat out dead now.
Privates servers.
terrible official server management.
well, the UI for one is atrocious, and it feels like a flash game with the weird areas being divided by rooms and having to go to the edge of any of them to get to the next room
Nothing went right, MMOs were a mistake.
Renewal, it killed literally all the magic of RO
Instead of having the freedom to go anywhere your stats, skills and gear allow you you have to go to the zone for your level because level difference now is a huge factor in hit/flee calculation and then they added 3rd classes which are OP as fuck and everything hits for 999999
It's only 2 things, but the whole magic of RO was that it was a completely open world you could explore at your leisure and you could tackle everything as long as you were prepared for it.
