>FF XI - The Adventurer is an extremely powerful individual but never the focal point of events. Rather than being the designated savior it's closer to being a highly valued ally who brings the necessary people together to achieve success. This isn't your story, you're just along for the ride in basically everyone else's story. >FF XIV - The WoL is literally a messiah figure and largely the only one capable of doing anything. The game constantly reminds you of your great power with both villains and allies singing your praises and all of the biggest moments are generally left to you. Everyone else is basically a spectator in your tale and while they might have their moments it's always up to you to finish the job.
XIV does often play it straight that you're pointed at things and told to kill them, with the Dark Knight questline even revolving around. The chosen-one storyline is more in line with a typical Final Fantasy game and it plays it off surprisingly well for an MMO where literally every player is the chosen one, even accounting for it with other players by saying they're just other high-tier adventurers, and if they're in there with you for a primal it's most likely they have the Echo too.

Didn't GW 2 pretty much used the first one?

>FFXI - Risk of dying even from singular mobs in every zone, even starting zones. Pulling or aggro'ing the wrong thing can easily mean death >FFXIV - Even fighting things 6 levels above you poses no risk of dying, even if you aggro 3 monsters at once
Does FFXIV get more difficult and engaging later? I'm about level 20 and I'm fucking bored. I want a challenge

Why did every XI expansion have a young girl as the sidekick character?
You're in the easiest portion of the entire game and the game's main meat of content is not in overworld zones. Play BLU if you want to possibly die to overworld mobs.

XIV is absolutely braindead easy outside of the 8-man savage/ultimate content. The world and dungeon/24man content is pathetic. The aforementioned 8-man content is really engaging and fun though, but that's it.

Because they're love interests in a sense It's most obvious in Lion, Prishe and Lilisette's questlines because Nashmeira/Aphmau also had some love interest stuff with the Elvaan guy who was possessed by Odin

Because FF XI understood that waifus endear most gamers
