>development began in 2011 (8 (EIGHT) years ago) >supposed to be released in 2014 (5 (FIVE) years ago) >raised over $150 million from crowd funding >raised $46 million from private funding >it's 2019 >still nowhere near close to being released
How hard can it be to make a video game? It should not take 8 years, especially with all the money they have.
>almost 10 years and we still don't have one completed star system >game is supposed to launch with 100 >mfw
Julian Hughes
i am annoyed by this crap. bought it when it was cheap but i guess i will never be able to play it. instead of focusing on making the game playable they want to make the "perfect" game and on top of that comes mann useless gimicks. fuck these fuckholes
>8 years >only 27% complete imagine being one of the people who funded this shit
Jaxson Hernandez
the developers for star citizen spent $13,200 on a coffee maker for their office. that's $13,200 that their backers invested in the developers to create the video game they promised
Leo Young
IMAGINE being a backer for this shit.
Henry Hughes
its a scam user
Lincoln Price
mfw /scg/ doesn't even exist anymore
Samuel Brooks
>mfw being poor to give money to these fuckers when i was interested in the game saved me from being scammed
HEY! You don't understand. It is imperative to the finishing of the game for our staff to have access to expensive coffee. What do you expect them to do? Buy a coffee maker and get some instant espresso powder? That would be literally bonanas.
Matthew Young
oh yeah, these fags used to have a general
Elijah Thompson
> Ridiculously huge bases you have no interest in exploring.
> Stupid FPS gameplay that no one wanted. I just want to fly a spaceship ffs.
> The last straw was when they de-comfied the Mustang Beta. One of the appeals of the game is the comfy ships, and they took that away.
Not excusing them but Red Dead 2 took seven years and that's with an old established studio doing the same formula they've been doing for 30 years.
Lucas Martin
Lad, shit the fuck up about the coffee maker. The only thing you're doing is giving cultists good ammo to ignore real criticism. Like the game being in alpha with a single system for ten years. Like the game being reworked a billion fucking times. Like FOIP being added for no reason. Like the game bring beyond pay 2 win.
Joshua Jones
Hey everyone, it's me, Chris Roberts. I made Wing Commander (™) 25 years ago and that means you should give me your money
>But we'll figure it didn't require much of a staff for a couple of years as they conceived the design and the team ramped up.
Thomas Jones
>Not excusing them but Red Dead 2 took seven years and that's with an old established studio doing the same formula they've been doing for 30 years.
not an honest or fair comparison.
#1) Rockstar has a proven track record of making some of the most expensive AND best selling and profitable video games of all time. #2) Rockstar also does not miss their scheduled delivery dates by YEARS AND YEARS. #3) Rockstar also took ZERO crowdfunded money from consumers for ANY of their games, EVER, getting normal investment capital from actual investors, not ripped off consumers. #4) Rockstar has released FOUR full fledged, finished games in the time it has taken Star Citizen to get to the point where they can claim they are 27% done with just ONE game. #5) Rockstar's most expensive game to develop, GTA5, only cost them
>is he the greatest scam artist of our generation?
nope, cuckerberg is, this guy is small potatoes and inept in comparison.
Elijah Bell
Realistically, Star Citizen is taking the amount of dev time that most large MMOs take. The only pitfall to the crowdfunding model is that it requires you to technically announce the game at the very start of development, rather than just a few months before release in order to maximize hype.
They merged with /edg/ and now just shit up the general while us elite chads try to talk about Brabens vision.
Lincoln Scott
Just looking at the kickstarter and funding goals, and seeing where the game is now, I have absolutely no idea how anybody can defend this game. 8 years and 200 million in, and they still have far less content than any other space game out there, like Elite, X, and even fucking No Mans Sky.
Levi Powell
Ok?
Luis Garcia
It's emblematic of the flaws of the project as a whole. Money just getting tossed away on stupid shit that isn't making the game good, like the million stretch goals.
Jayden Evans
>Duke Nukem Forever
Dylan Evans
It's become overly ambitious.
Gavin Thomas
>they want to make the "perfect" game That is just a smokescreen when in reality they just want to siphon as much money from paypiggies with their unrealistic promises.
Austin Reed
Truth is, only redditors fell to this shit. You only need to be that stupid to not promptly tell it's a scam.
Mason Evans
It's still more fun than Elite Dangerous.
Austin Russell
niggers
Hudson Myers
I bought the dlc today and my god, now I remember how fucking boring it is
Christian Moore
if i conned dumb fucks to give me $200 million for vaporware i'd buy two or three or four Linea 2's as well.
miyamoto is a dumb hack that regurgitates the same hackneyed shit over and over again
Jackson Reed
It is but again, it's just easy shit for cultists to dismiss and make everyone think the project is going well.
Luis Mitchell
>No argument Lol
Evan Rivera
>How hard can it be to make a video game? It should not take 8 years, especially with all the money they have. you are fucking stupid mofo OP. Making games takes this long. If not longer. You are a fucking stupid cunt who got no idea what he is talking about because you are a stupid asshole
Henry Sanchez
I bought this game because my GF wanted to play a space game. We started buying some crates in one space station, then we headed for another space station to sell it. After watching the planet slowly approach for 10 after the warp, she got bored and quit. Then I played for 20 minutes and quit this window simulator. Thanks for reading my blog.
Lincoln Sullivan
that sounds like it'd be fun if you had a crew full of men to hangout with and talk to
Easton Williams
Chill out, cultist, I'm pretty sure your grandson will be alive to finally see the game being released.
Liam Bennett
When slavs run out of money they just release it anyway.
>How hard can it be to make a video game? The whole scope for the project is retarded. I can't believe that people fell for crazy promise. muh cool one zillion universes that you can explore full of interresting planets and quests to do. It will have all kind and scales of spaceships, creatures , weapons, cities and you definitly won't be flying in emptiness for half your playtime. Same thing is happening with beyond good and evil 2
Joshua Lewis
I'm sure they have 500+ people working round the clock for eight years with 250m+ budget and several hired A list actors all for nothing.
Logan Reed
>Games launches >It's Epic exclusive
I M A G I N E
Julian Clark
the amount of money epic would have to offer would bankrupt even them.
Dylan Wilson
>Space game >Complaining about emptiness Holy fuck, retards like you ruin games with your whining
Oliver Price
500+ people at 40k a year would only take them 12 years to run out of the 250m. Not including advertising, actors, servers, upgrades to equipment.
Connor Sanchez
Miyamoto was talking about games that would eventually come out, not vaporware
They recieve money every year, it's the least of their problems.
Jonathan Perez
No, they're running into money issues and even the cultists are becoming worried. The narrative is now >CIG needs to sell ships and pay 2 win mechanics to survive and finish the game
Jayden Sanders
8 years from studio conception to game release is not uncommon. In fact that would be very quick for a high-scale game like SC.
GTAV took around 8 years to put together and that was with an established studio who already had all the funding secured.
Landon Brown
Thinking that those greedy faggot will say no extra money. Screenshot my post. In 20 years when the game come out and if epic offer is still up , they will do it even if that will make every single person in the world angry
It isn't that hard. The creator is just a scammer, and the people that fall for it are idiots, like is always the case with scams.
Parker Young
>20k Eh, one of those retards who bought those custom backer ships is enough to cover that.
Benjamin Long
At least the spaceship interiors look nice
Carson Howard
The last financial report, from several months ago, showed that they had only $14 million left. That means Star Citizen may very well be dying this year.
>Game's not even largely playable >But wait we added this ship with a unique shield system >Instead of putting in a unique placeholder effect and working on something else that actually affects the game we must make this one shield effect P E R F E C T
Juan Perez
FF XV is a finished game you SC fag
Kevin Foster
afaik a lot of the tech they wanted for it didn't exist yet and the dev time has gone into developing those systems. It's pretty impressive to do what they've done so far in a multiplayer environment without load screens or obvious instancing. If it was optimized better I'd play it more. Not excusing them for not delivering on their promises, but acting like it's meant to be a conventional game is silly. >supposed to be released in 2014 (5 (FIVE) years ago) In 2013 they hit their funding goals and asked the community if they wanted to expand the scope in exchange for a longer dev cycle and it overwhelmingly voted in favor of it. Mandalore talks about it at 3:41 here - youtu.be/IHUbzzKJXBc?t=221
backers are trapped in a spiral of backing. They know if they stop backing CIG will just stop developing and they will look like retards to their friends/family because of their wasted money. So they are literally forced to spend even more money to keep the scam going.
Grayson Nelson
I've put in about $1200. I knew it was a hard gamble and I only have myself to blame. I don't expect it to even remotely hit all the goals but I still hope it can manage to be decent at a smaller scale. My fear is even if it did manage to become a game just without all the star systems, how the fuck are they going to maintain server cost? This could still fail even if it succeeds in making the game.
Bentley Long
>FF XV is a finished game
It released unfinished. It ended unfinished and a fired director
Everyone looks at them aa being even more retarded for keeping funding this shit. Wasted money is wasted money. There's no need to waste more just because you already wasted some.
Ayden Butler
>how the fuck are they going to maintain server cost? It's feasible when you consider they make 50 mil per year by selling ingame currency
>they want to make the "perfect" game Actually, they want to make a lot of money by pretending to make a game.
Easton Foster
This post is pure retardation.
>points out Rockstar makes the same game over and over, which is exactly what the other guy said >the fact that the money is crowd funded would slow down game development, and the fact that it is crowd funded is a major selling point >says Rockstar has produced 27% of a game while Stat Citizen is nothing
Jace Cruz
If you want a space game, at least Elite Dangerous is a complete game with a full galaxy.
Ryan Ward
>falling for the gorillion procedurally generated planets meme
>Elite Dangerous It'a just Space Engine with a cockpit.
Brayden Wood
Maybe, but I have fun with it.
Thomas Bennett
>a full galaxy of entirely randomly generated garbage that all looks exactly the same
Mason Lee
For all it's flaws,Star Citizen has better biome variety in it's unfinished star system than Elite's 400 billion systems
Luis Howard
Star Citizen does a lot of things better than most games in the industry. The couple of things it doesn't do well is release or be developed properly.
Hunter Cook
I learned how to make my own games, made a space combat minigame and released it as an asset pack for people to make their own space games with, in the time since i learned about Star Citizen
Blake Adams
>christ roberts tries to make freelancer >because he's a massive sperg and control freak it quickly spirals out of control >he leaves to project once microsoft takes over and demands he some being a retard and make the game All this has happened before.
