I\m not interested in making a porn game atm.

I spend most of my time just throwing around ideas instead of actively working on it. Plus I know no one is going to play it since I probably wouldn't have fancy graphics or porn.

Still learning how to use it before i can make the game I want.

Because i'm at work. But when i get back at home i'll continue making the worldmap

I got a shitty ass budget of two part time jobs, but working on a free demo for steam before going to crowd funding.

Here is a sample song
vocaroo.com/i/s0Frnx98YY0t

>vocaroo.com/i/s0Frnx98YY0t
soulless

soul

try to remove the background bass synth or whatever that is, change the main melody instrumental to a less harsh instrument, and lower the tempo by about 20%

>Try making one
>Keep finding stupid little bugs
>Realize my writing is shit and get put off continuing it
>Stop working on it until a year later when I start a new project and repeat the process all over again

Try again. The mixing sucks. The tracks aren't converging enough. The instruments are both too good and too shitty to really hit the retro niche.

Just build around the bugs as if these were core concepts of the game
At best you'll pull a Bethesda

It takes too long to animate the sex scenes and the only good artists are busy making furry porn.

Clearly, you should switch to furry sex scenes.

you may as well just learn a programming language instead of spending years making a poor man's dragon quest/yume nikki

Why try anything

Because unless you make custom assets and hire a professional 2D artist to draw nudes, zero people will play your game

Planescape: Torment would've been twice as good if it was made in RPGmaker

I can't code and it's boring and weird.

>rpg maker games

Eh, the bugs are easy enough to get rid of most of the time but the fucking stupid decisions in the engine itself really piss me off at time.

I don't have anyone to draw hentai for it.

Attached: RPGM.png (640x480, 383K)

I already crested dozen of them when I was a kid, from pacman clones to fanfic.net-tier RPGs.
Making them was more fun than playing them, to be honest, but that was entirely my fault. It's not like I'm a master game designer, and most of my projects are just shitty excuses to insert my shitty fantasy romance dreams with random monster/demon girls (one per game of course, harems are dumb).

Attached: 55842562_p29.jpg (897x617, 429K)

>when I was a kid
I made games when I was a kid too
What happened, where did the creative spirit go

>vocaroo.com/i/s0Frnx98YY0t
this is truly awful

"Why create when you can just consume?" Your brain won't create new ideas if there is no reason to create them.
In my case, my creativity went to shit after I stopped taking notes of all my dumb vidya/world-building/romance ideas years ago, but some of it came back when I started messing around with custom/mod files of a small japanese roguelike called Elona (you can create your party members' personalities by writing their dialogue lines, and some Elona variants lets you create religions).

I'm making a platformer.

RPG Maker is the game dev equivalent of playing with Lincoln logs

it's not terrible but there is something off about it

Because that's literally retarded.

Lincoln logs were the shit, user.

Have you ever considered composing music for the Feminist Choir?

youtube.com/watch?v=IFb_AERKha8

I could make myself do that if there was a story I wanted to tell.

I suck at map making

Gamemaker is free now. There's no excuse to use RPGmaker. You can download Gamemaker for free, and then they make their money by selling you distribution licenses. So basically, you would only need to play if you make something you're happy about. And if you make garbage, you just drop the project at no cost.(Except time)

>I got a shitty ass budget of two part time jobs, but working on a free demo for steam before going to crowd funding.
Are you me?

Attached: Untitled.png (818x656, 186K)

Gonna sample this for a banshee sound effect, thanks.

Attached: bleeding_from_the_ear.jpg (1390x680, 121K)

I am.

Attached: Civ_E1_h.png (40x50, 2K)

What's it about, user? Are you doing anything noteworthy with the battle system? Are there any cute girls?

I am, but I have probably spent more time ripping art/music/usable assets from other games than making actual progress.

Attached: Untitled.png (640x480, 238K)

Lazy and not creative at the moment. I also keep making the stupid decision of not using an engine and trying to make my own so i usually get burnt out right when i get to making the game.

Making a JRPG-style plan might actually good for making D&D campaigns, think about it

You make a fully working game in RPG-maker, and you have a more descriptive/in-depth foundation to work with. You even know the broad personality of every random npc, since you already gave them a line. I might actually try this.

What's the best RPG Maker? I have 2k3, XP, VX Ace and MV and I've been trying them all but I can't decide. Which one is considered the best one and why? I heard MV is easier to use but VX Ace feels more comfortable to me and XP seems to allow more customization despite being harder to use. I'd use 2k3 because I really like the aesthetics but I don't really like how you can't change the battle system and there's no scripting. Please redpill me or help me decide, I have ideas for a game but I can't start working on it until I've decided which one I'll use.

Attached: bro.png (814x178, 44K)

RPGMaker games look hideous and the writing is usually just as bad.

>vocaroo.com/i/s0Frnx98YY0t
Rude, user.

Attached: 1522284129067.jpg (700x502, 58K)

They can look good and unique. It's just that people is lazy and use the default tilesets instead of making their own.

Attached: ollimio.jpg (590x470, 166K)

Is there anything as soulless as the MV tile set? How am I supposed to sustain an erection with these ugly ass sprites?

hire me

Making an game with RPGmaker is like painting with numbers and expecting it to sell as high art.

I am though. It's almost fun at times.

Attached: hub wip.webm (1280x720, 865K)

i just got it
should i look into creating my own tileset rather than use the default?

But I am. I just use UE4 instead.

I'm using Game Maker Studio 2 (bought a desktop license for it) to try to make a Chrono Trigger clone. Having a hard time figuring out how to code anything though. I've made some progress that I am happy with but any time I want to add something new, I always feel like I'm starting at square zero, where I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I do look things up but often times I have trouble following tutorials and advice because I barely understand them, which is worse when multiple tutorials have completely different ways of getting the same effect. I never know which one is "right."

I think I'm just retarded, but I'm pushing through with learning GML, as I am happy with the progress I've made so far, little as it may be.

How do I stop using Yea Forums and just do something creative and productive
For five years it's been "I'll start after this thread"

depends if you want something original or not. If you're just messing around using a pre-made tileset might make it easier for you to build maps, since you wouldn't have to worry about creating every graphic yourself. Personally I always recommend making your own tilesets though. It might take longer, but I think you'll learn more in the long run, and you can inject your own personal flavor/style into it, something that can never be done with pre-made material.

It basically Chrono Trigger.
Nothing noteworthy, though I have a lot of gimicky enemies and groups written down and going to make combat almost Dark Souls-ish.
No cute girls, though maybe 1 or 2, but no porn.

You said it yourself. Just do it.

Say no to Yea Forums today! Git gud.

i am, but i have no motivation to work on it at all
gamejams were a mistake

>redownloaded GameMaker 2 after a long time away
>says my 30 day trial expired and I can't use it
I thought it was free and I only need to pay for a publishing license.

Yes. It'll take some effort, but using the default tilesets and spritesheets is lame. Actually developing your own assets makes you feel invested, gives you the freedom to incorporate ideas or designs that aren't readily available, and getting some experience in making pixel art is always handy.

I CAN'T STOP

because:
√ its boring and tedious as fuck
√ won't play your own game, why would you
√ looks like shite no matter what you do
√ you won't see any money from it
√ you won't actually ever finish

Post some of your ideas for the enemies and the maybe kinda cute girls.

what's the best RPG maker version?

why are the overworld sprites so ugly.

>its boring and tedious as fuck
If you don't like what you're doing you don't deserve to finish anything.

fug, this is sad
ollimio.tumblr.com/
why do the best things never get finished/released to the public

Skeleton enemies that throw a certain amount of bones and then they die when they run out of bones.

Attached: cute girl.png (704x536, 388K)

dont shit where i eat

Fuck, I just opened it up, and it says my version expired too. I didn't know I was on a 30 day trial. I'm pretty sure they didn't sell it that way at the time.

You know you won't succeed.
Be realistic.
You always failed in the past and you know you'll fail again.
No, no, don't give me that bullshit. Don't trick yourself with lines like "that's a defeatist attitude" or "trying and failing is better than not trying at all".
That is 100% pure cope/self delusion and you know it. You fucking know it.
You have no business trying anything. You're not a creator. You're a consumer, background character, you're meant to be seen and not heard, to be stepped on.
Get real.

because the rpg i've been drawing designs and concepts for in my spare time for like four years is an ARPG and not turn based, and i have no fucking clue how to make it

nice projection, nerd

Attached: 1560894720776.png (323x335, 51K)

thank you reverse psychologyfag

Don't worry user, I'm making a similar game inspired by that one and other games I like. I just need to decide what version of RPG Maker I'll use and start working on it for real instead of programing the same events and making the same sprites over and over for each version of RPG Maker because I want to try all of them.

Imma do my game now to spite you nerd.

Not every statement of truth is projection.
People don't just say harsh things to you because it also applies to them. That's stupid.
It's like saying a homophobe must secretly be homosexual. It doesn't actually make logical sense.
You just can't stand the truth.

lol there's loss in the readme file
oh, cool. good luck user!

Attached: r.png (826x785, 49K)

>projecting even harder
lol okay nerd

What game, brother

>He is a consumer
Last game I bought was 9 years ago so stop raping at me. Gonna finish my JRPG now *dab*

Because literally noone will ever play it. Same reason why I gave up on my dream of being a writer.

I would play your game, user

>No one will ever play it.
Not even you?

what's your idea

>he hasn't been programming or at least modding games since he was a little kid
You know you can't fucking compete. All those other indie devs? They grew up on the computer. They were playing around making games when they were in grade school. You will never catch up to them.

i already did.
fathans1337.itch.io/30-yo-boomer-lawnmowing-sim

it's made with an older RPG Maker.

Don't tell me you're engine deving user... OH NONONONO

Depends on what you're making really. I'm into transformation shit and holy fuck some of the games writing on TFGames can be shitty but people still play them anyway.

To really make a good and standout RPGM I'd need assets I know nothing about creating like music and art. Project using stock assets will just blend in with all the others.

>Same reason why I gave up on my dream of being a writer.

you can always self-publish. then again it really comes down to whether you're doing it to just put a finished dream project out there or you actually want others to read and like it.

remove the organ and it's perfect

It's an opportunity to learn about those things, user.

>>Realize my writing is shit and get put off continuing it
that's literally the first step to getting better, though. revise revise revise. people who use their first draft are actually the worst. just don't fall into that trap of writing something as filler because it's not as important as the main core stuff.

I'm in the planning stages right now. Creating a good story and characters is hard. There'll be lots of femdom though.

This. There's always people willing to try even niche games. I got people interested here just explaining what I want to make, not showing anything.

>people who use their first draft are actually the worst.
not him but how so?

I came up with a story of a dystopian future where there are state-sponsored agencies that carry out murders, bribes, prostitution, and so on, and the story would follow the life of a dispatcher that assigns the work to different people that then carry out the orders. The story would involve the workers or technicians or whatever growing suspicious of one another as they steal work and clients from one another, and the dispatcher trying to keep them under control. I was gonna write a book about it, but no one reads books. Then I figured I could make a game and have the player controls the different technicians as they commit these crimes, but the idea is too ambitious for someone with no programming knowledge, and no one would wanna play my shitty indie game anyway.

Bought RPG Maker 2000 last-minute for the nostalgia, maybe I will.
Probably not anything I'll upload, though.

Attached: peon_wc2.png (241x191, 13K)

I make sure to never try anything. The feeling of "what could have been..." is much more comfortable than "I failed and exposed my ineptitude for the world to see".

i am, ive gotten as far as releasing a demo

this looks very familiar

Attached: u.png (642x483, 39K)

what do you use to make your own tilesets?

Paint.Net

i would play that for sure, but it might be a bit overambitious for one guy yes

Because it's never as good as they like to think it is. You can almost always re-arrange or remove good 25%. Basically, look at Pillars of Eternity. That's what happens when even professionals use the very first draft.

I like them because most get me guessing where they ripped the assets from. Sadly, as a result, most RPG Maker projects simply lack cohesion or unified vision of what a project should be about. They're made by JRPG fans wanting to replicate what they liked the most from commercial games, but tend to forget even nowadays simple 8bit and 16bit titles were made by teams of pros.

Attached: Ismail_Monster.jpg (640x480, 84K)

it took Sylvester Stallone something like 20 drafts to get Rocky 1 right

dont try to make the whole game from the start. tackle small bits of the game one at a time. this will also help with learning GML.
For instance, try making different rooms with unique puzzles or enemies in them and figure out how to transition between each room. then maybe work out getting enemy movement and behavior down. then maybe get puzzles down.
try to make as many scripts as you can as well. that way when you've made a lot of progress and want to try making the full game you already have all the code to drop in

Two things holding me back; coding and music. I can't do either, and I am not going to pay to use scripts from other people when I do not have a 100% guarantee that I'll make that back plus a significant amount more.

Based

Attached: win.png (905x691, 456K)

You must prioritize in a list of what matters most.

They all have strengths and weaknesses so you must select one based on your list of what is most important and what will, unfortunately, have to be sacrificed.

Do you have the skills needed to use a more advanced maker?

Do graphics matter more than anything else?

Do you need to be able to do certain custom mechanics?

Try answering these three questions and it should get much easier to decide.

they recently changed the trial to a 30 day license that expires

My attempts to make a Yume Nikki type game got tedious fast despite all the concepts I could come up with. Turns out actually executing those ideas is a pain in the ass sometimes

I made a few, mostly for inside jokes with my friends.
I've tried to make serious games a few times but my budget for commissioning art assets always runs out, that or the artist just disappears on me.

Attached: 1401146329966.jpg (400x400, 30K)

I don't know how to code, write, draw, design or compose music, and I have no idea how to learn any of that.

I'm shit at art and music composition

tutorials.
just remember one thing at a time.

I've used VX Ace and MV so far. VX Ace is very easy to use, and it had a LOT of support from coders and free stuff. MV is just as easy, but last I tried, it wasn't as well supported. An upside if you consider it as such is that MV can be supported by touch screens, so you can make mobile shit if that's your jam.

believe me, i tried. art assets are fucking impossible for me and i'm not the type to enlist people to help me. also the japs make the best rpgmaker games, no contest.

Attached: dumbakk.png (188x264, 77K)

could you even theoretically sell an rpg maker game on mobile? they expect everything for free with optional ads.

But I am
In Unity

Didn't MV also have web browser support?

But how do I know if the tutorials are any good?

How did you do 3D with the RpgMaker?

Undertale has no fancy graphics or porn and it became wildly popular

What's it about, user? Are there any cute girls?

well that's what this thread is for, if anons say it worked then it must be good...right?

You could sell one, but it'd probably be hard.

I would have more motivation to complete these if I had a partner in crime but every time I bug my creative friends they flake out at the last minute. Fucking artists man.

Because none of my ideas are for 2D turn-based RPGs.

Attached: 1480756961001.png (400x400, 3K)

is it possible to make low poly 3d games on your own? like learning to make the game in some game engine, learning to create the models, making the art, music etc, or is it too ambitious? I'd like to make something of a similar scale to Silent Hill 1

I know the feeling dude.
>Friend has a small group making a game, but doesn't have an artist or art director
>Friend knows I'm good at drawing and spriting, contacts me
>Hell yeah bro
>Director/Coder has no clue what he actually wants, just tells me to wing it with art
>Literally no clue what he wants, so I can't gauge his tastes
>Throw out a bunch of ideas and concepts, he never seems content
>Everyone else is absolutely in love with what I put out there though
>Coder barely codes anything, only codes doorway transitions (every indoor area is connected on one map) and a time of day that darkens or brightens the area
>Music guy only made one song, and it was a temp thing
>Friend who recruited me doesn't do anything at all
>I spent hours making sprites of various styles and sizes as concepts, never getting anything approved because the director never responds

I just cut contact with them. They were disorganized, didn't respond after weeks, and had no clear goal in mind. The worst part is that they were all good people.

of course, tons of Blender tutorials online.

youtube.com/results?search_query=low poly blender tutorial

Hold on, I had an epiphany after looking at a few of these.
>In the field of mechanical drafting (AutoCAD, mainly)
>I've made shitty 3D stuff with low poly count because it loaded quick
>Watch one of the quick videos under 10~ minutes
>It's basically the same fucking thing I already know how to do, just with proper 3D tools

I think I found my second calling.

>i can't into a leadership role
>gets mad at others for not into leadership role

kek you absolute kekolds. you absolute shit. you mindlessly created art for a game without a working prototype with all working game mechanics. you kek'd yourself and got sour at others. lmaoing my ass off. you had a good team and blew it.

Best tutorials for MV? I assume I need to know at least some coding concepts.

>ripped the assets
>JRPG fans wanting to replicate what they liked the most from commercial games
For me it started the other way around. Never played these SNES RPGs when I was young, but got into the RPG Maker community.
Many years later this made me get nostalgic over games I was playing for the first time because I recognized all those assets from RPG maker projects.

That depends what you wanna do with your creative skills.
I wrote a 120 page book during college for a final project and started to like writing (boring still bored me to hell)
After college, decided to write 300-500 words exercises during work (because in IT you either have no work or a fuckton of deadlines) and decided to make an anthology with my exercises.
Other people read my books, gf said is kind is boring but she was impressed i actually went my way and self publish it, so there is that. At least I love reading my own pretentious stuff.

reading still bored me*

What's it called, user?

Call me when there's an RTS maker.

I bought Dreams for PS4 and have been thinking about making a dungeon crawler actually. Does anybody have any experience with Dreams?

cool. Time to make my own anime mecha rts

Making joke games for fun with friends is the best way to use rpgmaker

made a halloween game on RPG Maker for an old contest.
couldnt finish it in time, so made due with what i was able to make, and wrap it up.

there was more focus on avoiding fighting, rather than doing fighting (as you get punished for it, since you can out level things)
People werent too happy with both that, and the fact the games hints were subtle, or not hand holdy.
I guess for a contest I should have held the judges hands more.
I tried to never be direct in any of my advice.

Also, some combinations of classes and party members require working around eachother, as making a team of all X might be the hardest, while a team of XYZ would be best. (All combos are possible, just some require more understanding of hidden items. And in worst case scenario, u grind a level to make up the difference)

claire-pendragon.itch.io/all-hallows-candy

RPGM default art style used to look good to me when I was a kid, now it makes me puke. Fucking SOULLESS

Because I can't write worth shit.

cute spooks

I'm not much of a fan of RPGs so I wouldn't want to make one. If I did it would be a very mechanically complex Action RPG which I don't think there's an easy toolset for like RPG Maker.

You can always do a more traditional CRPG instead, although that'd be hard to pull off on RPGM.

only went with a "cute" look, so as to cut animating sprites down, otherwise it woulda taken me 2 years to make all the NPCs (the most time consuming thing in all of RPG maker for me)
i feel i got the atmosphere down good enough.

Attached: sample-graphics.gif (791x560, 192K)

Evertything looked much better in 2k versions

I'm certain I've seen that town before.
There's only one use for RPG maker.

I already did, but I didn't do it in RPG maker.

I've done it. From scratch in both C++ and C#.

Was going to make an adaptation of Argonautica with it, with around 50 party members and a focus on character interaction, but realized all my work would be wasted because of exactly this reason.

Kinda want to make a game for my OC who i fell in love with. Is that too much?

That's what non-fangame games are user. Just make sure your OC is a character that's likeable outside of your own bias, and be sure to make the writing something that is engaging.

do it, provided they can fit within the context of a game, also what said

Im trying to make a shitty UI patch for some weird fetish game I like that no one else is translating as far as I know. What Im doing is only slightly better than machine translators with how I know 0 Japanese but I think I can do it. I also got a basic idea for a game I wanna try making.

I don't know how to balance exp/gold drops
If I made one I would have to make it not involve leveling up or buying items somehow

Just look at other rpgs exp/gold rates and alter them

>You always failed in the past
But that's wrong

My big issue is i have no idea how to balance skill damage or enemies, not sure how strong I should make anything

Is this a murder mystery?

>tfw 26
>too late to start learning how to make vidya from scratch

I'd rather come up with more content for my Pathfinder campaign, desu.
Also, I'm not the Mario maker crowd. Nintendo selling a casualized dev kit as a full price game is peak laziness.

Never too late. It will be harder. But ita not too late

the average age for a man to die is like 75

People would just pirate it and shit talk it on Yea Forums because I wouldn't have any anime loli.

honestly most of us aren't really alive anyway

Thanks. Yeah that's what I do. It's just that each time I go for the next "thing," however small, I have no clue how to start tackling it. The process can be difficult until I break through that initial wall, but it's almost never something I "chip away" at. Just something "don't get" until I "get it."

Regarding scripts, I just found out recently that you can just call scripts within an object... I'll definitely make use of that so I don't just copy/paste code all the time. Kinda like when I found out about parent objects...

Otherwise, yeah right now I'm working on creating a proof-of-concept prototype (with appropriate graphics). Once I get the necessities down, then I'll start adding things like graphics, music, etc.

40% of Yea Forums will die long before that.

Same, but I already started making them with general ideas, like this monster is designed around killing, each of his moves can one shot BUT. And I will resolve all of them when the game will be over, better test in game than waste months writing on a notepad.

Shades of BroQuest, you wouldn’t happen to be S-Purple?

And that's a good thing, here's why :

Does RPGmaker still only make games in 600x400, or can I finally make games that can fit on a modern screen?

Why would you put a bad 2D game full screen anyway ?

Cause I don't like leaving empty space on a screen

I am, its just taking forever because I'm still learning programming. Music and art are coming out just fine.

rpg maker mv lets you do custom resolutions, you could also do them in vx ace but they required scripts, whereas mv only needs a plugin which comes bundled with it anyway

this desu

What program did you use to make this?

I'm too lazy to even make a joke game.

sort of.
since the game refuses to use multiple cores, higher resolutions cause serious lag issues on anything short of a gaming PC.

you also are given a default plugin to do it, but the rest of the programs assets arent designed for it, so you need to get custom ones, or edit them more.

yanflay is pretty much supported by the main dev team, so thats ur best bet in plugins to fix most of the problems u come across.

most "basic" features the game "should" have by default, arent in the game by default, so unfortunately u have to use plugins for most stuff.
Im not talking about the crazy stuff people want made into plugins. i mean something as basic as hit detection. or as simple as "XYZ thing allow you to assign hp bonuses by an exact number or a percentage, but this other identical section only allows percentages in increments of 25%.
etc.

so get used to using 99 plugins for basic features.

I was in Gamemaker, but I couldn't figure out how to make the gameplay fun or make the rest of the game endearing enough to have typical combat overlooked

I wanted to make a game about being a SJW. But I realized I couldn't get it out before it was irrelevant.
Also lack of talent.

>Made game about timetravel
>wrote ending three ending choices, one of which is basically "would you kill baby hitler?"
>all three would have been bad in some way
>hard drive died
>everything gone

I'm making an Action RPG

What's it about, user? Does it have cute girls?

looks cool

Only way I'd want to is if I had fully personalized assets to use, and I've never had the motivation to do all of that on my own.

>"would u kill baby hitler?"
if u have time travel, why would u even need to do that? u can just displace the same kids elsewhere.

Let's see...
>Ideas are too stupid for anyone to take any serious interest in
>I can't write worth a shit and everyone would just be confused on what's going on anyways
>Too stupid to even figure out where to begin coding anything
>Art skills are beyond trash
>Even if I could actually art, my character designs are trash too
>Musical talent of a toddler randomly smashing keys on a piano
>Too poor and/or too much of a stubborn autist to fix any of the above with help from others.
>Even if I try to get deep into learning something to fix those problems, the very first thing I'm told is "Yeah nigger you're like 10 years too ambitious" which really takes the wind out of my sails.
>If I made literally anything I would get bombarded with the same cheap, soulless one-word bits of praise that crush my soul to pieces worse than any criticism could.

The talentless are best left to rot.

Share your ideas, you cowardly little mouse woman.

More like cowards are best left to rot

I've tried making games but I quit before it looks like anything playable.

>Ideas are too stupid for anyone to take any serious interest in
The game Im making is based on the fact that all my ideas are stupid too

I'm a кonsumer

What are some of your stupid ideas, user?

FACT: the best use of this engine was on games that weren't even RPGs

>What's it about
Skeleton kid goes on an adventure with the Grim Reaper to stop a retarded vampire from destroying reality.
>Does it have cute girls?
Yeah, but I have yet to make their models.

I was working on a joke game when my HDD crashed and now I have to start over.

I am. But I am not using RPG maker because, even when you make your own assets, as I am doing, all the games tend to look the same.
Anyways, I want my RPG to be totally unique and original. I think I am on a good track. Please look forward to it.

Not until we get access to CGI tier graphics, deep-dive consciousness VR technology and sensory mimicry firmware. After we get that, I will develop a VRSIM that simulates Multipotency as accurately as possible, it's basically Omnipotence without knowing everything at the same time, but more about discovery of your space, matter and mass manipulation. Your perception of time is also faster in-game, where one year is one second in real-time.

This is what I want. This is My dream. Not godhood nor demiurgic responsibility, but absolute discovery of Everything.

All the NPC with red colored skin will kill you instantly if you talk to them. Most are using hoodies to hide, and there's even one trying to phonecall you.

A rarity for sure.

I've got an entire little science fantasy universe that I have yet to explain to someone in a way that doesn't invoke "uhh, what?" as the main question.

That's what I want to do, but I have to figure out directional inputs before I make any more real progress.

Have fun, user.

Explain away, you cowardly little mouse woman.

Just put some big tittied animu ladies in it and shill heavily on v and you could become the next Sams Undertail, or possibly the next Steve Minecraft.

Any info on how to follow this? Im super interested

Because what I want to make would work much better in 3d, and I don't yet have the time nor skills to create what I have pictured. It sucks how so many different games get elements of what I want right, but there's nothing that includes most of the elements i'm after.

What elements are you hungering for, user?

Because making a shitty RPGMaker game isn't worthwhile or useful.

no one reads my webcomic, why would people play my game

Because a shitty game is infinitely more interesting than a shitty webcomic

>start making a self insert harem fantasy "game" just for myself
>create the world map, lots of characters and have everything planned out
>start scripting and making dialogue
>drop it after a few introductory scenes and never return to continue it
I've done this 3 times now, I'm interested in doing it, but I spend too much time trying to get everything as "perfect" as possible and never advance

Outside of literal retards who can't unto space and/or fantasy, the biggest hurdle is trying to explain how the space wizards work. Which is literally "Their magic is a physical resource that has to be collected, and magic itself is a bit volatile". In dungeon crawler terms, it would be like your wizard collecting a level two spell scroll, but instead of a specific spell, it's a blank check that can cast any spell from level two downward. And that's also literally the only way they can cast a spell.

And then all the fucking yadda yadda of space travel, aliens, ect. would follow neatly if I could find an analogy that works.

Been practicing pixel art on and off for the last few years and I'm willing to make a game. If games like Space Funeral are liked with how hideous they are, anyone can make an RPG.

My issue is that I legitimately don't understand how exactly creating the tiles sets work. I can probably draw something, but I don't know how exactly I implement next. Even the YouTube tutorials aren't too helpful because they use stock assets which only confuse me more.

Would anyone be able to explain this to me? Or perhaps link me a helpful tutorial? I have RPG Maker MV, if that matters.

Attached: 1562334680109.jpg (384x637, 29K)

Hello

That seems pretty simple. Better quality of cheques means they can write for more, but potentially have to hedge the potential power of a rare cheque against the usefulness of casting a weaker, but more situationally appropriate spell.

This, pretty much. I started to learn how to do 3D models, but it would take a 1000 years before I could actually make what I want to make. It's frustrating, knowing your idea is simple and possible, that the technology exists, but you just can't do it alone.

Attached: buildings_3d.jpg (1608x801, 146K)

What's confusing you?

I am, I'm not far off finishing it too.

I'm shit at art
pretty good at programming though

What exactly are you trying to make?

I started making one, but theres too much art to be done for it and I'm neither a good, nor a quick artist.

Attached: Runa3 glow.png (1920x1200, 82K)

It just drives me insane because everyone I try to explain this too seems to be literally retarded.
>Wait a minute how did ANYONE get into space in a futuristic setting?
>Wait a minute, faster than light travel is impossible. I don't care if you have a physics-raping wizard on board
>I dont understand if the magic is its own thing, why doesn't it blow everyone up?

reminds me of music i tried to make like 4 years ago

That sounds like less of a problem with your ideas and more of a problem with the stupid pedants you've been sharing them with.

Yeah, I ain't no ubisoft. I think, just making a character vaguely resembling a human that can walk would be pretty cool right now.

Put it on steam for 50 cents and put in lots of achievements. It might take a year, but you'll make that $100 deposit back.

Anyone tried working with Wolf RPG? I like the price of FREE.

Maybe I'm just too dense, but I don't really understand what I do after I draw anything.

When I made a background before I had to do this weird thing where I had two folders, one resized and one normal, to make the background work as a parallaxe image. Honestly, it was a lot more hassle than if was worth, especially because my map was made with 32x32 tiles, and, apparently, MV uses 48x48 by default.

So yeah, ignoring that mess, would I just make tiles for say, a field, make them all 48x48 and put them in the right folder? There are so many default assets I just don't want at all and it's really throwing me off.

Oh, hey. You were one of the example people I was thinking about. I like how simple your game looks and I'd like to try to make something like that. I'll gave to look at that link in the post more in depth.

I feel you. It took me ages to figure out how to model people. Once you get it though, it sticks pretty well imo.

>So yeah, ignoring that mess, would I just make tiles for say, a field, make them all 48x48 and put them in the right folder? There are so many default assets I just don't want at all and it's really throwing me off.

Not him but. Check the img and tileset folder in the RPGMaker project. The way tilesets work is quite simple. They're a single image that has the sprites tiled adjacent to each other.

I use Paint.Net to make the 48x48 tiles and then arrange them on a layer ontop of this template to make sure they're aligned correctly. Then when I've got a tileset done I remove the pink template and save it as a .PNG and then Import the file into the project.

Attached: Tileset_Template (2).png (384x1056, 12K)

I am, there's a lot of trial and error.

Attached: Cave_.png (815x620, 47K)

>Interplanetary exploration (quality over quantity, with procedural sandbox elements for non-story essential areas)
>your ship being something you can pilot/walk around on and heavily customise
>main gameplay being on planets surfaces, plays like a 3rd person action rpg but wide range of skills that actually do shit and have a tangible effect on gameplay
>character can move around the game world freely (climb anything, swim etc -gear and skills permitting)
>aesthic sort of like a grittier Phantasy Star 4
Basically a game where you're a freelancer/adventurer in a grittier Phantasy Star like setting, only spanning a handful of systems but some planets being randomised/procedural for extended gameplay. More so than anything though is the way I see this playing in mind, the fluidity of how all the elements need to come together, it needs a lot of rpg like depth but without making the game a clunky piece of shit.

Yeah it seems like a lot of hard work. Do you know if Substance Painter is just meme software or is it actually worth it for texturing models?

Would there be any issues if I make my chars taller like 96 by 48?

I have made 2 RPGs

One is about the Odyssey
The other is about this Geisha trying to escape from a castle

>the odyssey

Post it. Do you play as achilles or what.

>Would there be any issues if I make my chars taller like 96 by 48?

Nope, if you look at the default assets there's spritesheets that a bigger than 48x48 are denoted with a ! or $ before the name. e.g. the big boss monsters or the Crystals.

I do think it's excellent software, and have seen some brilliant renditions done with it by friends and hobbyists. But I get the impression it's more that kind of cherry-on-top-of-cake kind of thing, for when you get real autistic about textures and realism, and not something you can't live without.

How's GameMaker vs this?

Oh right, fucked that up, Achilles is the Iliad fuck me

Because rpg maker on ps1 is shitty to work with and that's all I have

>no
>bad user

Is it really that bad to have the tiles be squares? I was kind of aiming for something like Super Mario 3DLand where the environment is cubic. Or do you mean because I haven't rounded the edges on the corner pieces?

There's nothing wrong with having more cubic tiles, but it looks artificial and jarring in "natural" settings.
In the end, though, it's your style.

Chances are people will play it, but won't say anything.

They will take every neat idea from it and act as tho it's their own and people will praise them for it. Because I have no political alignment or friends.

Oh hey I'm following your project, nice seeing you here!

Based honest and thoughtful critique poster

I'm making one but I haven't posted updates on twitter in a while because I'm slowly trying to scrape together money for the soundtrack by doing art commissions. But I'm still doing it

Attached: 1536795629956.jpg (280x280, 9K)

I see, thanks for the critique. Like I said it was trial and error and when I started I literally didn't know what I was doing art-wise and still aren't too great. But I've been designing all the areas in the game to look cubic.

Attached: Cave_2.png (805x615, 38K)

Are the monkeys and main character thing 48x48? I cant figure out the sizes at a glance. I'm sure some things don't have to be, but I'm just curious.

i made more than half of one and then i ran out of coke

Is there a maximum size that this asset holder image can be? Or can I just have more as needed for additional tiles?

>Oh hey I'm following your project, nice seeing you here!

Ah that's cool. Nice to see you too. I didn't think my game would have a following enough to run into people who recognise it.

Yes and no, they're on 48x48 grids but the sprites themselves don't take up the whole thing. Pic related is how the main character fits inside a 48x48 grid.

Attached: Robot_48x48.png (48x48, 775)

Is it too ambitious to make a 3D game with shitty graphics? I want to make a kind of exploration sandbox in Unity or something.

Ah, I thought so. As long as it sits anywhere within the 48x48 it works, right? Or does it need to be middled and at the bottom of the 48x48 tile? Also, can you give me an example of your field tiles by size? That's part of what's confusing me. Like, do you just combine a bunch of tiles together to make a map, or is there a different way in RPG Maker to combine them and place them?

Attached: 1562119579146.png (518x325, 292K)

>does it need to be middled and at the bottom of the 48x48 tile

noo dont die please

Everything must die in the end user. Me, you, this thread. Everything.

>lso, can you give me an example of your field tiles by size? That's part of what's confusing me. Like, do you just combine a bunch of tiles together to make a map, or is there a different way in RPG Maker to combine them and place them?

My tilesets are a hodgepodge that would probably be more confusing to look at so I'll just show you one of the defaults with the grid overlayed. You don't make the map in the tileset. A tileset is just a group of individual 48x48 pieces that you place with the map editor.

The best way to do it would be to start a project, open up the default assets and try adding your own tiles following the way the defaults are laid out.

Attached: Inside_A5.png (384x768, 328K)

I'm trying to, but learning blender is hard

Anyone remember that one RPG Maker game someone here made where you played as his weird beta self-insert and he walked around talking to amalgamations of people he knew who told them how creepy and weird they found him, and all the responses he gave were apologizing to them for being weird?

I made a beginning for my RPG in rpg maker VX Ace. Posted it in a thread a while back, got a a lot of positive feedback.

Still haven't had the inspiration to start back working on it.

Attached: coffeehank.jpg (236x239, 12K)

post it!

He can't because it doesn't exist. He made it up. It's pure fiction.

oh

I have ideas but if I ever got around to doing anything with them I'd rather channel them into a book than an 8-bit rpg

I mean, it's an ok start and something to put on your Kickstarter page, but if you happen to have successful funding I'd definitely get an actual composer, you can probably get a literal who that at least understands music theory pretty cheap

This is just some screencaps of the opening. I couldn't figure out how to upload the game itself.

I did make a game years ago, I don't know if it's still up on the website, but it was called Wind of the void

Cringe

Scripting

Whenever I start a project in RPG Maker, I tell myself I'll just finish something to have a completed product.

But then I realize I'm not happy with the battle system and want to change it. Then I go down a rabbit hole of trying to create a fun and engaging battle system while paying close attention to the numbers side of things. I get overwhelmed with it and say I'll just stick to the stock system and just finish because I want a completed product.

But then I realize I'm not a fan of the stock anime faces and go down a rabbit hole of different portrait sets, but none seem to be as robust as the default character creator, so I try making my own and getting overwhelmed with it to the point I just go play videogames and forget about the project until I see one of these threads. I'm not in the same mental place as I was when I started that old one, so I make a new project and the cycle repeats.

Story so far. The main character Arty confronts Lord Krump who plans on going down to the ancient tomb of a legendary hero in order to resurrect him for his evil deeds.
Unfortunately the long slumber of the hero made him extremely weak.
That's all I have so far.

Thanks :) That's exactly what I was going for. Glad you like it.

Are you me?

Channel them into a flash-animated RPG instead.

I love RPGMaker because it lowers the bar so much that the only thing you need to provide is graphics to make it not look like an RPGMaker game. If you can't do at least that, you have no business even trying to make a game with anything else.

I've barely seen any praise.

I think it's Dark Elf.

I like the creative aspect of making your own rpg in rpg maker. I'm not a big fan of the games created with it though.
I accidentally bought a game on steam a while back made with rpg maker and it was a little shotty.

Thank you very much. There are spooky enemies in it.

I would rather use Wolf RPG Editor but I don't know Japanese or if there is an English version.

I would like to make a game with the Megazeux editor though kind of like what I tried to do when I was a kid.

UT is gamemaker, which helped the hybrid genre thing it was doing.

RPGs r 4 gays

Is it possible to use things I've drawn and painted digitally in RPG maker? I kind of hate sprites and am no good at making them.

Attached: 1561749286181.jpg (255x214, 14K)

In comedy, timing is everything. Things here are too slow. They could be twice as snappy and end up five times as good.

This is Yea Forums, user. Things are pretty gay around here.

yes

Because I'm exceptionally awful at making anything 2d tilebased and would rather make something 3d instead, as much as I prefer balancing around a turnbased deal

Attached: 1401588895057.png (341x393, 212K)

you don't get it it's about soul, rpg maker games have a certain soul other games don't have. even to this day non rpg maker games are taking inspiration from rpg maker games like yume nikki the main one being undertale which frisk is just a mash of ness and madotsuki and gaster is just uboa, and jojo's 7th stand user is really popular as of recently. there is something about rpg maker games that inspires creativity because of how accessible it is as a tool.

Attached: 1507230298198.jpg (236x204, 13K)

I'm already succeeding and I don't even have a demo out yet

Because im programming a MUD instead and it's a pain in the ass because I didnt learn coding before this. RPG Maker is really fun though.

There apparently is an English version, but I haven't tried it yet, so I can't speak to its quality.

Megazeux is still being actively developed and has a roadmap for future updates. The latest release was in February. It is insane how much shit has been added since the early 2000s.

Made 2 of them and got tired of it
One was "ironically" bad (pic related), the other had soul but was super amateur

Attached: jtYLYt.png (794x496, 332K)

I will definitely check that out.

I recently downloaded it and got it to work. I am still going through the main game and will be looking at the add-ons.

Post a pic of the other.

Making assets is too hard and there's no way I'd ever use stock assets.
I wouldn't even be able to reach Undertale quality.

aaaaaaahh this looks really good and comfy user, i can't wait to play it i'm starting work on game tonight.
this has given me motivation.

rpg maker console games are a joke nisa had the chance to change that with rpg maker switch but they babied it and didn't put a graphics editor into it in fear people will make anything other than pure innocent games.

Yikes
Why does it sound like it just straight up has wrong notes sometimes? Also the music sounds out of tempo with ITSELF at some points, how is that even possible.

They sell like absolute shit if they use the generic, default assets. If you make your own assets you'll at least have a chance to become popular. I'm doing it and I already have a decent following even without a demo. At least try making it man, you never know

I actually like this

Oh wow, that's actually encouraging to hear. I'd love to see your stuff.

Also do people really go crazy for story and gameplay? I'd like to focus on the rpg aspects more than the story but I know some people hate that and only care for the story.

don't listen to the haters, you are The Shaggs of rpgmaker music

I'll start in UE4 any day now

any day now...

Gamemaker is going to require more programming knowledge and more work to bring up to function that RPGMaker can do.
But, it will be a lot more versatile. RPGMaker has a lot of limitations.

My only skill is writing. My sense of aesthetics is so poor I wouldn't be able to put together natural looking maps to save my life. I couldn't do music nor sprites either and no one wants to play with the default RPG maker shit.

how can i make songs for my game if i don't own any instruments to record them with? is there such thing as a virtual synthesizer?

At least you can change the source code now in rpgmaker. Your biggest limitations are in the editor itself like map limits and stuff, but even those have workarounds. My brother and I even recoded everything in C++ for faster speeds now too, although that requires you to understand how to read the map files and stuf. Recently my brother has been working on rebulding rpgmaker from the ground up so we can customize the maker too... But i guess thats like building an entire maker from scratch...

Yes, usually RPG maker games focus on the story and characters more because of the limitations of the engine itself, but if you can make battles interesting that's a bonus.

Attached: 1551288972015.gif (676x456, 44K)

Yeah, if you're going to go through all that work, I'd just switch over to Gamemaker.
Especially since GM 2.0 is getting a pretty substantial update soon thats going to really help legitimize it as a smarter engine.

word of advice.
dont try to focus on "Combat" and "Story" as being the primary 2 most important things.

I'd strongly suggest you focus more on building the game as a set of "Scenarios"
What is each scenario's setting/theme/goal?
What challenge does the next scenario bring? how can you convey it?
etc.
this can be both combat and story, but sometimes it can be neither.

I don't even know where to begin learning to do spritework.

...

This is very good advice. In a very primitive sense you should look at your game as a series of chapters, in a quite literal sense. Of course there are games that literally divide their games into chapters with different scenarios (Paper Mario TTYD) But there are also games that do it in a far more freeform fashion (Breath of the Wild). One of my favorites is Titanfall 2. The game has one continuous campaign, but the campaign is a series of scenarios that require the player to do different things (upside down platforming, time travel, etc.)

It adds flair and retains interest in the player to make different scenarios that have unique aspects (both gameplay and lore wise) as part of a grander story. You just have to avoid the pitfalls of making the game gimmicky.

Damn, so RPG Maker MV then?

yes

Because I'm still a bit traumatized how I learned I'm a cuck.
>be me
>thinks NTR is ew
>suddenly fren from Yea Forums reccomends me to play NTRPG
>goes for it
>"There were three..."
>have a premonition this can't end well for me

Everything was a blur but by Monday I'm a changed man and I think having your childhood sweetheart get fucked by other dudes is a taste only true gentlemen like me can appreciate.

>advice saved

i also sort of take the same approach i think of a theme or a main character design and the build everything around making things match up with my games theme or aesthetic.

It's not all that fun to use RPGmaker and I don't posses the mental faculties required for learning how to program.

I just want to make SRPGs and sprawling adventure games ala Metal Max/Violated Heroine (without the porn, and probably lacking battles too)

violated heroine would be considered a classic rpg maker game if it wasn't for the porn, it's a s shame

I had the opposite reaction to NTR
>play some heavy ntr game before I even knew what it was
>Get disgusted at it and just drop it.

say no more, family.

You're my nigger

based.

I am. I'm using Java though because that's the only language I know how to program in

I have several game concepts written down but rpgmaker would not match the feel or scope of any of them.

Do people not know that RPGs are a series of scenarios? Are people retarded?

hold on this is a porn game

>I'm using Java
lol

so your game is unplayable garbage, just drop it and do something else with your life, no one is gonna buy your shit

There's both a French and an English version. And it's the full, paid version. All packaged into a single PDF. And it comes with the full set of complementary files and animations. So there. You're welcome.

They are but the point is more or less to think of your game as a set of scenarios and not a continuous flowing epic, which is what most people envision in their mind’s eye when they think about an RPG. There are games like the Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest series, Xenoblade, No no Kuni etc. where even though it’s a set of scenarios, they are not very defined and those games feel very much like a flowing contiguous story. Even though that’s not the case; every (good) RPG is structured as a set of scenarios, but some are better at hiding it. Some are very deliberate about showing it, like Paper Mario or Persona 5. The thing is that you have to look at your game from a dev viewpoint with structure in mind, and then mold it to be like a flowing story after the fact if that’s what you desire. If you don’t then your game will be a confused mess. It also just helps you set goals during development and you won’t be overwhelmed by scope of you break parts of your game’s story into chunks with specific goals and resolutions for each.

i cant draw or program
how 2 learn?

I've tried for years but I'm absolute shit at it, can never get anywhere

Because rpgmaker games are all either rip offs of a real game, gay/furry shit, or just boring default shit that they put literally zero effort into and expect to cash out. Rpgmaker needs to die, steam is flooded with this shit enough as it is

not only as the other user said, where they think its 1 flowing epic, they tend to boil RPGs down to "Town > Field > Dungeon >Boss" and repeat.
games like FF6 broke that pattern, which is the 1st step to keeping it interesting.
then each scenario had new mechanics, or required you approach the scenario slightly differently than before.

but most developers dont notice this, not even modern day SE games, where it boils down to the formula again.

where do i start?

This is what I think is the best way to create a world/story is in any work of fiction. I don’t know how familiar you are with anime but Hiroyuki Imaishi, director of Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, and others has mastered this technique. Say what you will about if you like his anime’s or not, but the dude is a god at creating a set of rules for a world, and then populating it with characters and building a story around that. He makes the story fit the world he’s trying to create, not make the world fit the story. For his newest anime Promare you can tell he established a world first (“This is a world in which there’s a peculiar “race” of humans who when they get mad or stressed can cause fires that kill large amounts of people”) and then he made a story based on that world afterwards (“How Do people react to these people? What are the ethics of letting them live in society? Is there tension between them and normal people? How is this handled?”).

It’s a very interesting approach when applied to game development as well.

Hiatus....hope i have time to finish it one day

Attached: warrior_skillcutin_002.gif (300x230, 1.38M)

I hope it only dies after I release my game, then

Not him, but Java is perfectly fine if you're not executing any complex algorithms that require micromanaged code.
For example, working with raw bytes is absolute hell, and the GC can easily throw a fit if you handle it wrong.

A overwhelmingly large percentage of people will never encounter any issues with Java if they have good programming habits, and it's cross platform with minimal work.
The majority of the backlash Java has is from the horrible implementation older (8+ years) JVMs and people repeating what they hear instead of actually knowing any better.

Oh hey you're still alive, that's nice

Kill. Your. Self.

Im begging you

I just LOVE the art in these, wish I could pixel art.

Buy some course on Udemy, is not that hard.

>tfw late to an RPG maker thread

Can we come back on /vg/ after this?

Wish people would tell me my art is good too

I fucking hope so, that was the only place where I felt confident enough to post progress regularly

no. and just to make you seethe I’m going to fuck your mom twice as hard as I usually do tonight.

Practice and don't give up. One day people will envy your skills.

pick up a pen and a paper/download a acceptable drawing program and draw
download some easy engine and code
that's 100% unironically what i do, whenever i find myself being unable to do something i just search how to do it and practice until it goes well in case of art or copy it and examine how it works in case of code
but well, i never really did anything like a game though but i did improve on both and it was pretty much free, so don't take my advice like if i was some sort of pro

Attached: 1559740361042.gif (400x277, 223K)

this is a feel i can feel

Because I am literally the sloth sin incarnate.

No I mean, in these threads. I already get praise from other sites but I secretely want to please Yea Forums more with my game

I am, but I'm using a far better editor.

Watch some tutorials on sprite creation and pixelart if that's what you're going for, you will save yourself ALOT of time if you know what you're doing.

Spend too much time playing rpgmaker hentai games to have enough time making my own.

what was this called again, i remember enjoying the art a lot and hoping it would progress along cuz reasons

Here's the intro to a boss battle track for a game I'm working on. I still want to add strings and a bassline to this, but I'm not really happy with how my attempts have turned out. Anyway, this boss is an '80s glam pirate you fight on a neon lit dance floor.

it's looking bland and uninspired

It's going to be, yeah. Randomly decided at the start of a game of a different family member to be the killer, with a player objectives that tie into a story.
Working on an option for the player to be the killer now.

Is there people still doing NWN modules? Last time I played was like 10 years ago.

thanks for having my back, user

>Randomly decided at the start of a game of a different family member to be the killer
Nice, I always wanted a game like that

i totally get what you mean, i'm also looking forward to seeing promare because lio is a cute.

but i totally get what you mean by building the world and making it the story and characters form around the world you have built.

also gurren lagann has some of the best characters designs and each clothing and the colour choices used tell you a lot about the characters.

May change the name when i start deving again :^)

go on post it then faggot!

MV, VX Ace or Wolf RPG?

Wolf is free but only somewhat translated into english

MV is the latest and has some neat plugins, VX ace has a bigger library of them but not necessarily what you need. Both are cheap when on sale so pick whichever has the plugins you want.

Does anyone remember RPG Toolkit? The latest version of it was like, an open source RPGMaker. I used to love playing with it like 10 years ago. But for over a year I've checked the web site periodically, and it's always the same page, saying it'll come back eventually.

Already posted

Thanks man I'll pick it up.

Not him, but I'll show you one of my songs

I wish I could find a second vidya music job, the first one was really fun

It's good

does anyone have anything they wish they knew before starting to make an rpgmaker game? i'm a beginner and trying to catch as many tutorials and tips i can find online to get a footing and start

>vocaroo.com/i/s14get1C9EUR
this is really good is it for a game youre working on?

I don’t have any video game knowledge.

I want to make a open world rpg.

Should I use rpg maker? Would people even play a rpg maker game? Is it even possible to make a open world rpg maker game or does the engine have linear ideas in mind.

>why aren't you making your own RPG right now?

Because back when RPG Maker was actually popular I asked on the RPGM forum for help in figuring out how to script something specific and got shit on so hard by the "big name" posters that I abandoned the project and never looked back.

No, this is something I did for fun. Here's a track from the game.
vocaroo.com/i/s1mhNQSb1wbk
Development's been slow, and since I only did music I don't know exactly where it's at development wise.

The RPGM forums are notoriously shitty. We used to have a general on /vg/ that was comfy as fuck and full of helpful people, but unfortunately it died.

I really like it. Wanna work on sound design for my game? I can offer you a share of the profits

Sound design? I've had experience with music but not with the sound side of things. That being said, you have to get experience to have experience. I'm interested, what kind of game is your project? Do you have an idea on when you need the music done by? Any idea on how many music tracks will be needed? And finally, any particular style you're going for? Sorry if it's a lot of questions.

>it died
why?

Few active people, and a lot of them kept disappearing.

Skeleton: I only have one bone left and it's my dick!
Hero Party: ....
Skeleton: It's actually my funny bone!

Then he throws it and dies.

i chose to start doing some stuff in lua and then love2d but wew is it hard just starting out with nothing

Attached: 1562438880993.png (250x250, 77K)

I've been trying to make one for years, but the projects keep multiplying and i keep losing focus. So I'll work on one for a couple weeks, do nothing for 2 months, work on another for a couple weeks, and repeat. I used to frequent the RPG Maker general on /vg/, and I posted a demo for one of my projects but only a hand full of people seem to have played it.

So what I'm working on now is to just say "fuck it" and I'm throwing all of my ideas and work into the garbage. a game called "Garbage Bin" that's just a melding pot of most of the ideas I've had, and the heroes trying to escape the hellscape created by just literally dropping shitty ideas into a bin.

The only idea I'm not including there is for a game about the afterlife that I've been working on for 5 years, its the one I've put the most time into and I'm very fond of it. The characters in the image are from it, and this is the most recent music track I've done for it: vocaroo.com/i/s11TasJGBFbp

it's all trash tho. But it's fun to create

Attached: party.png (292x234, 5K)

holy shit I actually remember this! I was also on /rpgmg/

It's a turn-based RPG with a branching story. I just started development a few weeks ago, so you would have a while to compose. I want to have the assets either finalized or very close to it a year from now, so you'd have a pretty relaxed schedule if you wanted to work with me. I would check in frequently and offer feedback on the music though. The game is going to have six bosses so I'd need six boss themes, as well as a few different overworld songs. I'll probably need a couple tracks in addition to those, but I need to get further in development before the number is finalized. I don't think I'll need more than fifteen tracks. It's not a super dark game, but the story leans that way sometimes, so grand fantasy-sounding themes that don't get too upbeat are mostly what I'm looking for. Let me know if you're interested, user!

I’ve been working on a product. I want to make a patreon for my game but I’m not sure if people will give me money for it just yet.

Basically my game is a open world rpg. It’s a lot like classic wow where exploration is rewarded and you can find yourself in areas where you’re rewarded with a cool weapon. Also there is more of a focus where you’re just a adventurer and lots of little stories between towns. There is less of a big bad evil and more of just heavy world building of each races culture.

One thing that I’m having trouble with is making a merchant desert city that rides on a top a giant scarab that travels between ocean ports.

My biggest fear is people won’t like the game because I have low self esteem and I’m not never talented but I’m trying really hard.

>Beasts all over the shop

It is an interesting idea, and I could start work on it tonight even. I'd need you to show me some assets for musical inspiration here or there, but I definitely am interested! Where could I contact you? Is discord okay? I find it easy to communicate through there.

looks like yet another soulless earthbound ripoff

Yeah, discord works! Reply to this with a ss of the (you) from one of my replies and your tag and I'll add you

with an ss? did you mean spoiler? My tag will be in a spoiler. Shambler Doggo#9562

this

not him but he means a screen shot.

game maker if you want to make something as soulless as undertale

rpg maker if you want to actually make a real game like yume nikki

What’s the best rpg maker to use

I have xv ace
Is mv worth it

For drawing, and this applies to pixelshit too, has a ton of useful book recs, namely ones by Loomis, Hampton and Bridgman. Learn what the fundamentals of drawing are and just comb through them with practice and thoughtful study.

I want to make a strategy rpg with range attacks, move points, attack points and all that shit
will it be good?

b a s e d

I've been using Ace for my project and I still don't feel the need to upgrade.

undertale trys so hard to be subversive that's not even an rpg anymore and just a bullet hell visual novel. people need to stop calling it an rpg

good to see a fellow /rpgmg/ brotha. I miss it so much.

Attached: SKELETONSman.jpg (541x408, 64K)

Nah that game is boring. Mine is a ripoff of games that are actually good like undertale and LISA.

Attached: thepowerofaseprite.gif (384x256, 13K)

And this too, I remember playing it. Damn nice

yeah rpg maker can do that for you, with a few plugins

when part 2? udemy.com/unityrpg/

>games that are actually good like undertale
the screens you posted already look better than undertale

undertale is not good

>pixel art
all over the place and a mess

>as an rpg
it isn't even one

>as a bullet hell
it's decent at best with only one good bullet hell fight being sans

>as a visual novel
undertale is pretty good

this was a nice thread btw. I feel a little more motivated to work on my game. Hope to finally post progress again at the end of this week

I'm glad someone played it. Although that was where I started getting too nebulous with my ideas.
Garbage Bin, despite just being random shit thrown together, is a lot more dialed in and easy to work on.

Attached: dummies.png (202x100, 3K)

Oh you're the same dev as the other one? I didn't realize that

I miss it as well.

It's never coming back is it?

Unfortunately no because there aren't a lot of rpgm devs around

back off buddy. toby tried his best. also
>pixel art
>all over the place and a mess
My game will set a new standard for this with my ms paint level.

I asked in the comments of one of the RPGMG podcasts what had happened to the thread (i was without a computer for 8 months), and they said a good chunk of the people from the thread made a discord instead.

i don't care for discord but there's always that, i guess?
its not the same

Attached: GameOver.png (544x416, 5K)

because i already made one, it's just not uploaded anywhere

Attached: cheese.png (815x621, 623K)

Discord is lame and kills everything I love.

mh, interesting

I can't say I do really either too much circle jerking and non sense, I wonder if they would let me in since I basically scrapped my whole game and deleted rpgm but I'm kind of wanting to work on it again

That's sad to hear, though I guess I'm also one who "ran" away

senpai, lemme play your cheese.

Attached: astridisagoodwitch.png (290x370, 10K)

I stayed there till the end. Now I only have social media to post progress on, and I miss interacting with the other devs

I want a unique battle system that focuses on real time skill with timed blocks and parries, as opposed to a nigh four decade old system that has been overused simply because people don't want to have to make new things because that's difficult.

Just go to /agdg/. Plenty of rpg maker devs there, including me. It's not a bad place at all, and they won't mock your project if it looks decent, despite what some /rpgmg/ users believed

Some quality dialogue there bud

They mocked my game once

That looks good placement wise, etc. yet it still has that modern day indie look..... why is this? Is it because it's so square looking and cookie cutter? Try molding it a bit like in a link to the past.

Surely there was a reason? It never happened to me.

I'm fucking trying to :(
I'm an artsy fag, but I have terrible stage fright with showing anyone my work, and I want to make a Side-Scrolling Shooter/Collectathon (Metroidvania) and I want it all to be hand-drawn, but I'm terrified to show anyone any of it.
Like, I have this MC in mind, and to me she's the most adorable fucking thing in the world, but I know if anyone else saw her they'd be like "A baby could draw that" and "So uninspired" but she's fucking cute, her name is Silki and she wants to be a scary witch,, but she's dummy thicc and too fucking cute to be scary and she tries too hard to help peple so they all think she's a hero which makes her sad cause she thinks she failing but then she realizes being herself makes her ahppier than her goals would have and it has a nice fucking ending but I'll never make it im sorry I'm really drunk and emotional right now.

>it's dead
Well it was nice seeing you once more friends

Attached: 1546120614643.jpg (749x694, 46K)

if you say so, user. If I get any worthwhile amount of work finished, I'll pop in some time. My projects don't look decent so I'll have to prepare myself to be slaughtered.

Being slaughtered is the best way to improve, tho.

Attached: MemeMeUp.png (544x413, 67K)

"nice undertale ripoff" because the art style is somewhat similar to Mother 3 I guess

If I do, I want to add a Llama that pops through the wall and says
>Lemonade
Is this possible to do? add the llama?

I'd like to share, but you queers would rip my idea off.

sleep well, friendo.
vocaroo.com/i/s0tmqlbqMh18

Attached: piano.png (541x414, 29K)

Oh okay, I meant more as in mocking you for using RPG maker, which doesn't really happen there. They mocked your artstyle instead

Do you have a twitter/tumblr where you post your stuff? I'd really like to follow you because I remember liking your game, would appreciate seeing more

Because making the content for a 20 hour+ game and even just developing and implementing the whole combat system with spells and abilities would take years and a team, and too much effort and risk I want to put in (right now).
But the setting is urban fantasy and at some point I want to make an RPG in that setting, the game would play in a suburban/small town area.
I have the whole game and rough story pretty much laid out in a document.
