Too long and automated

>too long and automated
wait what? this is news to me

It's just something contrarians say because they desperately want to bring down what is widely considered to be the best 2D Sonic game. (Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I mean, of course.) It's just grasping at straws. No one even knows what they mean by it, including them. When pressed about it, they'll just make themselves look even more vapid and contrarian by spouting even more nonsense.

Perhaps, cause people only started saying that about Mania once it got big too.

How come the "mocked" opinion is always the right one?
Really jogs my noggin.

odd id say that applies to mania more

When people say “automated” they mean the sections that allow you to build speed. They tend to not realize that getting that speed allows you to reach higher areas in stages, which often have better shit and less hazards.

I personally don't see it there either

>if you combine two games its the best game in the series
S3Kfags are fucking retarded

The game was designed and made to be played through as a single continuous experience.

Technical limitations cannot hold back greatness.

What happened to this kind of ambition?

It died with the Dreamcast.

And yet both games are designed with independent openings, middles, and conclusions.

They're not one game and it's retarded to treat them as such.

>no argument
S3Kfags, everyone

Literal children who were introduced to 2D Sonic for the first time and hated that a 2D game got more acclaim than the 3D game they hyped up more or worse, couldn't play it correctly.

and yet you're the one treating them like enemies for some reason, this thread never called for that.

*Sonicfags, everyone

>even a perfect run still has constant awkward stops and starts
Sonic was a mistake.

But then if you move constantly it's no better than boost

Just look at any good platformer that's purely about platforming and not about muh gotta go fast. Since you're at a relatively constant speed throughout, it's a much smoother experience, and ironically faster in a lot of cases.
You can point to any classic 2D Mario for example.

>arguing against mental retardation

Except everyone calls SMB3 the best Mario game and it’s loaded with auto scrolling stages.

Not to mention Sonic’s stages are more complex than 90% of other platformers.

Plus, what you’re saying is very retarded.

They can be played independently, but they were both designed from the ground up to be one continuous game.

Yes and changes are made to account for that when locked on thus creating a single, continuous experience.
I'd hardly call 12 levels a full game when all the others in the series have significantly more.
It's almost like Sonic's a fucking platformer or something.

>When people say “automated” they mean the sections that allow you to build speed. They tend to not realize that getting that speed allows you to reach higher areas in stages, which often have better shit and less hazards.
Uh, you didn't exactly invalidate what they said there. All you said was that the automated sections allow you to reach higher areas in the stages. Which I don't think has ever been argued that they don't.

Every sonic game is good except for Lost World, 2006 and Sonic 4 and a few obscure game gear titles

They’re not really automated, and it’s easy to fuck them up and end up on a lower path.

Hydro City is a good example of how this works, as fucking them up forces you to go through water sections.

>obscure game gear titles
Sonic Blast. Labyrinth was experimental, not necessarily bad.

Lost World is ludo you pleb

The only good Sonic games are the classics (including Mania), and the classiclikes (Rush and Advance series).

Prove me wrong.

All of the classic games have their flaws, as does Mania, but they're still the most consistent and fun games of the franchise. And now that you can play all of them in widescreen the only cheap hits without much excuse are still the Marble Garden spike balls.

Personally S3 is my favorite, but &K besides Mushroom Hill and Flying Battery, not so much.

>Fangames
>Labyrinth that low

I don't see BTS or ATS

>Robo Blast
>S3K Complete
Fan games, ROM Hacks, same shit.
Watch some smartass bring up Mania

Oh, guess I hadn't noticed that for some reason. I really hope 2.2 will be this year.

Sonic 3 complete is too good to not include.

>Sonic Adventure
>not Sonic CD

In that case, better include all the other hacks and fangames too, it's only fair, right?

Man, am I not allowed to prefer 2 to 3&K for these exact reasons without being a contrarian? It's not like 3 or K are bad, I just like 2 more

I like Sonic 2 more for its arcade-y style of gameplay. Sonic 3's pathetic level count and having to wait for S&K was a misstep on SEGA's part. On the other hand, the connection with S3 and 2 somewhat makes up for it, but on release, that was unacceptable.

Who gives a shit about being fair? There were a bunch of official games I didn't include like collections and shitty sequels.

What are some fun sonic 2 romhacks?
i remember playing one that added the cut stages and thought it was pretty cool

Attached: 1557520819507.jpg (529x752, 84K)

It's more of a 1&2 hack but there's Sonic Classic Heroes, which adds character switching and Heroes-style mechanics to the first two games and lets you continuously play through both. There's also Sonic 2 S3 Edition, though that was pretty glitchy and wonky dick. There's also a Drop Dash hack out there.

I forget which game it hacked, but Sonic Boom is by far the most interesting

mushroom hill is so comfy fuck oyu

You can't expect people to take you seriously if you're making a list of good and bad Sonic games and add fan games because reasons.

I'm saying I liked mushroom hill. It's everything after Flying Battery that doesn't mesh with me.

Flying Battery is overrated
Lava Reef is based

flying battery is big gay

I like it at least...
