I also need DQM switch in my life so I can waste infinite time on it

You can stream games to your phone locally, and there will be zero problem for the game since it's turn based

it has a lot of new content, its very much worth it
Specially for me who has only payed the 3DS version previously

I already played it. The game is 100 hours long and I don't want to play it just because it has an extra Jade marriage scene. I'll Google it

It has new content which the other versions don't have and i mean a LOT of new content. Most important ones being that you can play the game in 2D and visiting old levels and bosses of all the previous 10 games. There's also an orchestrated soundtrack which also includes the entire DQ8 OST, new romance options, new story segments, various small improvements in the hud and gameplay, new rideables and other shit I don't remember. All of that has only been announced for the switch version for now, so you can bet your juicy ass that I'm going to double dip and buy the switch ver. even though i have it already on PC. Dragon Quest is the only jrpg that currently matters.

What's the best game in the series to play after XI? I'm assuming VIII? Is the PS2 version fine or is the 3DS version that much of an improvement?

You have a bonus dungeon and Boss battles plus a new romance option on 3DS. Also no random battles on the world map, as the monsters are visible. Graphics and the soundtrack are worse however.

Eh I'm good. I have 140 hours on the steam version and it's the very definition of "okay". It's a very safe game, boring at times, and seems to stray away from a lot of things that would make it objectively better because it wants to retain that "classic" feel (by making the game worse). I had fun with it but I don't think I'd ever buy another one unless the heavily changed the formula.

I'm playing 5 after struggling to enjoy 8 and surprised by how much more I like it. The plot feels more engaging with out much more your character is involved in it even if constantly changing party members and all of the monsters make equipment management a pain. But at least none of the story arcs are as boring as the king mourning his wife for two years or prince Charmles.

I convinced a friend of mine to play DQ XI when it came out and he loved it. DQ XIS is going to have a sidequest that revisits all the games so my friend is actually going back to playing through all the games from the start with me as his wingman. We're already up to DQIV.

3DS version of 8 is best. There is more content, and a bunch of quality of life changes. Two more characters, an extra dungeon, new ending, and you dont have to fucking wait for your items to be made in the alchemy pot anymore. Graphics are a bit toned down but visuals arent as important as content. If you're playing DQ games for the visuals then you're here for the wrong thing.

Are you supposed to get more characterization for Nera and Deborah in V through optional scenes or something

Literally the very next thing you do after meeting them again post-timeskip is try to decide who you're going to marry, except it's barely even a decision because the game obviously wants you to marry Bianca so she's the only girl that gets any real moments

For fuck's sake, the night before the big "decision" I went to talk to Nera because this is always the moment in RPGs where you talk to the relevant characters and have touching conversations that endear you to them and she's just fucking sleeping

For a game that puts so much narrative importance on love and marriage I hardly care about the girls, especially compared to Alena and Sofia from IV
