Any tired old gamers here? What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming? Also what are you currently playing right now?

when customer satisfaction became secondary to investor satisfaction. bloodstained is a nice call back to yesteryear when devs actually cared about their product.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
less piracy

Gaming became a massive industry. Its all turning into a corporate dystopia. Alot of the old studios with talent got replaced with legit idiots who'd make better dicksuckers than they would programmers\game designers. Literally same thing happend with the movie industry.

I turned 26 today
fml

Stop conflating your unhappiness with your own life to a mere hobby, and stop posting these shitty threads.

Yea sure buddy its all just nostalgia.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
the advent of smartphone games and the fact that videogames are now in the pop culture completely changed the focus target of videogames.
They don't care about making videogames for people that like videogames.
Even most thread on this board are the most casual, tasteless, clueless shit you could find.

Casualization was a trend already but then it became the norm while also progressing through monetization of every aspect of a videogame.

Ultimately videogames these days are just a way to sell addiction and microtransactions to idiots.

>LE TIRED OLD GAMER.

Nigger you're wasting your life worrying about it when you're still in your prime.

Your mom really took the electrolytes out of me last night if you know what I mean.

I've been playing Everspace, Supreme Commander and Strike Vector EX.

good games still exist, stop being a retard who exclusively plays team based competitive matchmaking games and also avoid AAA shit and most things that even hint at being related to tumblr or american politics.

The decline of gaming was due to popularity. As soon as it stopped being a niche hobby made for enthusiasts, it started being a cash cow/investment for shareholders.

I'm fairly sure that all the "games are shit" posters are just poorfags with toasters. Buy a beastly PC and you will enjoy games again.

Graficsfags and gacha whales.

im probably the oldest lurker on these boards. sitting at 38 i can only shake my head at the utter faggotry of this board. i dont know what any of the newer games talked about here even are. theyre always some samey jap shit with "loli" girls . then some weirdo posts furry porn , bowsette and a whole slew of other gross weird shit. if this board were around late 80's early ninties it would have cheats and codes threads, game threads people actually want, and speed running / fighting game pros challenging each other. everyone born after 1990 is a degenerate fappy pants fairy, or the timeless clueless bimbo with a side of sjw thrown in. fuck you and your parents. the shitty niche games you play suck. and your porn fantasies will leave you unable to perform actual sex if ever an opportunity presents itself because your expectations are not only unrealistic, but inhuman.

>speedrunning in the late 80s

Nice larping there bud

you think that just came about recently i was speed running games from the beggining im just no where near the best at it nor am i alone.

the prime is 25. each year after that is basically worse than you were in your young 20s. the 30s is past the prime, however. young mid 20s is the prime i would say at least in physical capability, potential, energy, and physical appearance being youthful, late 20s is past the prime

For your own sake i hope you got something else going on in your life other than Yea Forums

>it's another fighting-only retard thinking his opinion matters
If you weren't playing shmups for the challenge and enjoying the shooters and racing games for the fun, you're a fake piece of shit. Fighting gamers can be bros but they can also be the most retarded faggots like you, please go back to spamming hadouken and wondering why nobody wanted to play with you or your fighting games again.

>we'll use all this extra computing power into making bigger maps and prettier graphics, instead of smarter games
>we need to make games less challenging to appeal to a broader audience

>microtransactions

Just buzzcut it. It's really pathetic when men try to hide it.

Loot boxes and gambling. That and the industry changed from being a niche hobby to a normie and mobile shit fest

I dont look masculine enough for that, im a skinny manlet

As a 26yo that went through a brief age panic, you just have to let that shit go and focus on continually improving yourself and maintaining the youthful joy that is in all of us. 18-22 year olds at my side job are constantly flirting with me, I fucked one a few months ago and another just asked for my number this week. Enjoy life, it's too short but worrying about that too much will paradoxically ruin it for you.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
Microsoft and Halo.

>Also what are you currently playing right now?
Breath of Fire III. I feel it needs a remake almost as badly as Xenogears does. There's a GOAT game here, buried underneath slow scrolling text boxes, annoying forced party member switching and faerie village gacha.

The people who make and publish games in the West nowadays don't even play video games. They're either some tryhard college grad looking to "make bank" in "tech" or some cocksucker with a suit and an MBA calling the shots.

Playstation. Games became more about FMV cinematics and pre-release hype than actual gameplay.

Are you saying PS1 games had no gameplay?
Here in europe literally nobody gave a fuck about stuff like Final Fantasy as it was seen as gay, and PS1 was still a reigning king.

You sound very biased, I would even say you are a nintendo customer

>I drove once but I didn't know how to do it properly and veered into oncoming traffic, some of us just aren't meant to drive
That self-defeating attitude emits a disgusting smell that will drive away anyone and everyone that is worth a damn. Find a way to do cardio, lift weights even if it's just dumbbells (if that's all you can medically do), do something. You're only roughly 1/3 done with your life, set yourself up so you can enjoy the other 2/3. That's a lot of fucking time to mope around, a lot of time to be filled with regret. Don't let that happen to you like I've seen it happen to many other older friends and relatives.

Compared to N64 and SNES games? Definitely not.

For literally every game you can come up with on N64, there is a superior ps1 experience. The only exception being Goldeneye/Perfect Dark. And even then PS1 had an exceptionally great two Medal of Honor games which were not as good as GE/PD, but outclassed all other shooters on the market nonetheless.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?

the Xbox and World of Warcraft

My life is great, but my mind-rending fear of death is crippling me to the point where I can hardly function anymore. I know it's futile to worry about the inevitable, but even my worries are meaningless. I'm stuck in a rotting shell that, once expired, removes everything I've come to define as "existence" forever.

Attached: _.png (960x720, 4K)

Video games have yet to decline. But once they do I can't think of anyone to blame except people who prefer passive forms of entertainment (movies, books, movie-games) to active ones (actual games, discussions, shitposting, creating).

Just say no.

27 here. I'm not tired and I don't think there's a decline at all. Last 2 years were the best in gaming in more than a decade. Sure a lot of shitty high budget games being made, but there are also a lot of good developers making great innovating and inspiring works and overall we have a better understanding of what games can achieve, particularly when it comes to tying narrative with game mechanics than we did 20 years ago.

Ironically though, right now I'm playing vanilla Morrowind.

Attached: comfy_stalin.png (477x397, 68K)

This here. The first half of this year was fucking solid with games like Sekiro, RE2, DMC V, and the second half looks just as strong. Death Stranding could be amazing, could be shit. But it's something we haven't seen before. The decade will end on a good note (2017-19) even if it didn't start out strong.

the influx of zoomers and casuals who can't tell a good game from bad killed videogames
people who buy microtransactions, overpriced DLCs, play gacha trash, etc. are all the problem.

blame the companies all you want but they wouldn't be able to get away with releasing low effort overpriced microtransaction ridden garbage if the consumers were all used to getting an actual full complete functioning game

Yikes. When will mods ban these cancerous threads?

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?

You and the fact that gaming became mainstream and thus no longer needed to appeal to the neckbeards but to your average zoomer gamerbro who can't be fucked to actually focus and think for 5 minutes.

Having said that, there are still games being made for the more autistically minded which is OK and fine. I'm 33 by the way, on Yea Forums since 2008.

That's just a normalfag problem in general. Any medium that becomes popular with them is doomed to the same fate, because those idiots will buy anything. Not a generational thing at all, boomers were just as stupid and short sighted.

you're not old at 25, you're just a faggot who thinks he is.

Not existing means not suffering, user. Besides, you don't know for certain what happens after death, the same as the rest of us. There is so much about the universe that science still cannot explain. We still don't truly comprehend the nature of time and space. If your body dies and at some point in eternity you can live again, it would be as though it was instantaneous.

The process of dying will be scary, but there's really nothing to be afraid of. Live as well as you can and don't waste time dwelling on it.

I’m playing nothing now, because every single game made on or after 2007 has been objectively 100% pure shit made for casual shit-eaters, vidya is dead.

There is nothing after death, just as there was nothing prior to life. It is naive and foolish to think otherwise. If I was allowed to suffer for eternity instead of ceasing to exist, I would fall to my knees and cry tears of joy.

>decline of gaming

>Hello bullshit school bureaucracy and deadlines

>all made after 2007
Shit

Even la mulana? Surely you jest.

It was the cycle of vidya becoming mainstream which led to seeking ways to draw in more people (casualization, shinier new graphics), which led to inflated dev costs, which led to breaking up games to sell you parts as DLC/MTX/other bullshit, and it's just spiraled out from there. There's still good games out there. But the overall quality has definitely dipped outside of indie games.

30s is the prime for men

Actually I think 2010 was pretty good, but yeah from 2011 to 2016, it was mostly a wasteland, with very few interesting games. 2020 also looks somewhat promising, we'll see.

Attached: 1445087716900.jpg (800x800, 42K)

This year was an anomaly. Before that, 2017 was pretty good. And before that it was like 7-8 years of straight garbage.

I feel the same way. 2007 to 2017 was a fucking dark decade for games, and I feel we are coming out of it. There is stuff coming out that actually interests me.
Yea Forums may shit on indie games, but I think they are the main force pushing this.

t. 30 year old

money. before commercialisation gaming was driven primarily by the creative visions of nerds who grew up during the dawn of gaming. now games are made for the LCD's and as political statements, which pirating probably also contributed to because only retards spend more than they can/should on things.

How you three and everyone else in this thread stop typing by killing yourselves?

oh hey Yahtz when are you gonna add gameplay to BRTV?

Always been late to the party so I never gave a fuck about the latest and greatest. Old vidya ain't going anywhere and consoles give me whole new genres to enjoy that I didn't know when I was a PC-only kid. Anyway, Persona Q2 is my jam these days.

30s

The industry is being destroyed by two things.
1. Greedy fuckheads like EA and their shitty practices
2. Things like modern Mortal Kombat. Games used to be about having stupid fun, and many AAA game devs today don't even like to use the word fun. Everything is about graphics and pretentious fucking nonsense. MK today is a microcosm of this.

Currently playing Mario Maker, but still going back to Hollow Knight in anticipation of Silk Song.

Happy birthday user

Dude as someone who has dealt with the fear of non-existence for most of his life, as in it literally used to keep me up at night, just don't worry about it. If there is some kind of afterlife then you have no control over it or ability to determine what it is. A lot of people pick some belief system but by our current accepted modes of proof there is obviously no way to prove what happens to you after death, if anything.
On the other hand if its nothingness then when it actually happens to you, you won't be able to feel discomfort, pain, or even worry about your lack of state. It's like being asleep.
Think back to before you were born. How heavy do those millions upon millions of years feel on your shoulders? I bet it feels like nothing at all, because that's exactly what it is, nothing. I know you've heard that already but meditate on it. There is literally nothing to fear.
Another thing I like to think about is when I wake up from a dreamless sleep, my first instinct is actually to try and return to that state. That's how little harm lack of consciousness has done to me. Socrates once said that if death truly was eternal nothingness, then he did not fear it, because he supposed that not even the Persian King had ever experienced so deep and peaceful a sleep.
I really do hope this helps if you're still around and read it. The fear of death is absolutely horrible but I firmly believe that death itself is not to be feared. Be at peace.

I don't think gaming is declining, it just changed. You are no longer the target audience, and no longer the same things are mainstream as 20 years ago.
For example, I like JRPGs that used to be abundant. There are still many new ones releaseing, but they are simply not mainstream anymore. Doesn't mean they are gone.
Stop focusing on AAA trash.

Company's want to squeeze every dollar out of you while making as few games as possible.
Been playing a mix of Halo Reach on my Xbone and R6 Seige on my ps4. My PC comes in next week with my new HTC Vive! :D very excited for it

28 here playing more Dota 2 again soon immortal fuck russian booster. Dota 2 made me racist.

things that are ruining gaming:
1. shitty journalism
2. toddlers being treated like everybody else
the rest of the problems like streamers/youtubers, greedy publishers, shitty devs etc. are all derived from those two.

26 year old here, gaming is better than it has ever been, there's an actual market pandering to us boomers with retro-style games that are in high demand, there's a market for all the 12 year olds that are making companies big bucks and keep them away from us, and now that zoomers love video games I actually look cool and managed to score a 20 year old girlfriend that wants to play the good vidya with me.

And our old games aren't going anywhere, you can still play Wind Waker, Kirby's Adventure, and Earthbound any time you want.
If there are so many games you can't be bother with, just start returning to classic titles you've never played.

Attached: 1558114708190.jpg (750x750, 76K)

Been playing They Are Billions. Campaign is a little disappointing but I miss strategy games so whatever. Steam forums are hilariously salty.

I am at peace, but the knowledge that I will have to die some day renders all other things I will ever experience moot. It's just logic.

>It's like being asleep.

No, because your brain is constantly active while you're asleep. There is nothing like death because the only time your brain stops is when you die. No living creature has ever experienced brain death and come back to tell us about it.

>How heavy do those millions upon millions of years feel on your shoulders?

Like the weight of all the matter in the universe.

Don't feel too scared about Death, sure it's the end of it all but at the same time we just don't know, your consciousness may get another chance at life and if you're scared about the afterlife it'll probably be the same as before you were born.

Hell who knows, maybe we might see a way to upload our consciousness into a computer and live forever on the internet or something, no point dwelling on something that'll occur years from now.

But I don't truly know, no point really talking about it.

Attached: akagi death.jpg (728x1049, 410K)

>"""oldfag"""" lecturing about tits in video games
yeah no, fuck off kid

>we just don't know, your consciousness may get another chance at life

It won't. That is a coping mechanism. I should probably embrace one of those, but I'm having trouble disregarding common sense and logic.

Cyberpunk, ghost recon and pubg (and death stranding)

30 years old here. Very, very tired.
>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
Microsoft's announcement from 2004-ish in which they declared they are going to eradicate gaming from Windows platform, and all the subsequent events that stemmed from it. The decision to push for a near-pure console orientation has resulted in the worst gaming dark age in history, and while things have gotten a lot better thanks to Steam, early access, kickstarter and the birth of indie gaming platforms, we are still dealing with the fallout of those days even today.
Another problem - but one that is by no means limited to gaming - is the growing polarization of ideological and political landscape, mainly pushed by an increased activity of the radical left, coupled with the unfortunate and unexpected consequences of gaming journalism moving from physical media to online only: both combined resulted in a massive decline of the quality of gaming journalism and generally really fucked up discourse that is not conducive to the medium itself.

That said, I still find some solace in the fact that things have - at least - gotten a lot better than they were seven or eight years ago.

>Also what are you currently playing right now?
Dusk, Amid Evil, Factorio, Anno 1800, Rimworld, and I'm setting myself for a second playthrough of Pathologic 2, which coincidentally is my game of a decade.

Attached: Culture_Pathologic2.jpg (1500x1125, 210K)

Anyone else been losing their reaction time?

Unironically, play The Void.

Mine's getting better and better, and I'm pushing 30. Though I've made a point to train it all my life.

For me it depends, I'm getting really bad at Mega Man games, but my Resident Evil runs are improving tremendously.

Am I the only one that thinks 3D games killed gaming? 3D games were always inevitably going to have a massive appeal to casuals and Hollywood worshiping rejects. You cannot do the majority of what you see out of 3D gaming with 2D because 2D is too "video gamey" for these casual and cinematic artsy types.

>Am I the only one that thinks 3D games killed gaming?

Yes you fucking hipster Zelda faggot

I hope you are, because that is FUCKING RETARDED.

I just find it harder to get in the gamer zone. Too much shit on my mind now, I can't just sit down and focus on playing as easily.

>26 year old here
>managed to score a 20 year old girlfriend
Fucking creep.

In a way it did, because it removed the last fundamental gap between games and movies. Nowadays you can barely tell the two apart.

But it was worth it. I'd rather have 10 years of Monster Hunter followed by death than 90 years of Alex Kidd.

Attached: Nintendo_Goes_3rd_Party_And_Decides_To_Port_Sticke_Star_With_The_Help_Of_Bethesda.jpg (639x479, 178K)

By the same logic, introduction of sound or color to cinema was detrimental to it, because it removed the last gap between them and theatre. Do you not hear how fucking idiotic this line of reasoning sounds?

30 yo wizard here.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
Exposure to a wider audience with lower standards and exponential growth in retardation on every generation.

>>Also what are you currently playing right now?
Nothing.
I reinstalled CoP and fucked around for 2 hours but that's it.

Also, vidya got worse yeah, but there's plenty of good video games you have yet to play. If you don't enjoy this hobby anymore is most likely on you.

Attached: 1561695799926.png (600x546, 278K)

It still took 20+ years to even approach movie levels after moving games to 3D, and we are still not quite there yet although very close.

Poor allusion. Theatre is just another passive form of entertainment. A proper comparison would be that you're going to jerk off, but instead have to watch someone else jerk off in your face.

Nah. Pretty much right away you get long segments of text and cinematically shifting camera angles where they just didn't exist prior. Compare the amount of text in link to the past and ocarina of time.

>I reinstalled CoP
Color of People?

I understand the argument and I've read it a lot before, but I think it's a misunderstanding of what actually changed about gaming.
It wasn't 3D graphics that killed gaming, it was the growing disinterest in arcade and arcade-style games that led to the wide scale adoption of a different attitude within gaming, that then led to a strong push for 3D games.
After games stopped being arcadey after the failure of the Dreamcast, arcade games died as they were no longer being ported to home consoles, games were therefore starting to compete with your television and other forms of household entertainment.

Just stick to arcade games and you'll be fine.

American I presume?
Zoomer girls are fucking perfect man, daddy fetishes, cosplay is considered an acceptable hobby nowadays and easy to take to the bedroom, and the parents don't mind because you're not some horny 20 year old looking for a quick fix.
I've had girls that were interested in me below 20, but that's where I draw a line.

Attached: 1556787848019.gif (200x200, 2.22M)

>what is matter

>Compare the amount of text in link to the past and ocarina of time.
Not seeing the correlation. The amount of text in Quake or Unreal didn't increase at all. They were still non-existent.

You didn't have to go out of your way to not only confirm, but to describe it in great detail how much of a creep you actually were.

Well those examples don't fit my argument.

What was the 2D equivalent of Quake? We can't draw any parallels here.

Not really familiar with games that much older, but probably Contra or other similar 2D scroller shooters.

Call of Pripyat, no niggers there.

>The amount of text in Quake or Unreal didn't increase at all.
Actually, unreal had a fuckton of text in it. It was optional, but it was all over the place.

>Poor allusion. Theatre is just another passive form of entertainment
No medium is purely passive or purely active, you mongoloid. This is just another pathetic case of mindless essentialism. Games always had a passive and active element to them, regardless of how many dimensions they employed, and so do all other media. The argument is fundamentally non-sensical. The ONLY fundamental distinction between games and other media is direct responsivity, which has NOTHING to do with depth. Whenever you move along two axis or three axis changes nothing: the fact that the game constantly reacts to your imput is the only fundamental difference here.
God damn you people are fucking BRAINDEAD. THINK for fuck sake.

I'd take a wager and say that even that is a lot less than even in a link to the past

>tfw dont even care about bannerlord anymore

HOW DID IT COME TO THIS

I wish I could get a buddy to (first learn) and play Dominions.
Shit looks like it has an endless amount of content.

I don't think gaming has declined. I think AAA is shit but it always was. I find several great titles every year which is how it always was.

Other than a few standout years like '98 and 2001 most years are relatively equal.

Not my fault girls are into that these days.

>I'd take a wager and say that even that is a lot less than even in a link to the past
I can't attest to that because I grew up with proper games, but you are probably right.

As much as you're probably just baiting, it's insanely fucking weird to think that we've gotten to the point where people treat guys dating 18-20 year olds like they're some kind of sex trafficking lords of perversion.

>Tired old gamer?
Nah, I still enjoy vidya and am not completely jaded yet.
>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
I got 3 potential takes on that. Microtransactions/ horse armor, Sega falling out of the console market thus letting Xbox slip in, and esports + pandering to those chucklefucks.
>What are you currently playing right now?
Blue Revolver and Touhou SA, practicing for that 1CC Lunatic. Then will finish Etrian Odyssey Nexus by the end of the week.

Not really, only if they are being "dated" by creeps 6 fucking years older.

28 here

now i have a ps4, over 300 games on steam, uplay, origin and god knows what and all i do is play MMOs occasionally some csgo or coop game with friends

games just stagnated somehow

>nothing before birth
Based on what empirical evidence? I'm not even disagreeing that this might be true, but this is purely speculative.

How is that being a creep? Would a 24 year old dating a 30 year old be creepy? Or a 30 year old dating a 36 year old?

It does and the concept is really easy. You'll get it after a round or two. Its fun to play online with a randomized selection of cards. Completely changes how the game runs and you need to think of a new strategy every game. The core rules are however really simple and easy to learn.

19 year old boomer here, ban me.

Maybe, I am playing very little videogames lately.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?

"AAA" devs chasing the COD formula and turning everything into a more action oriented game. That plus DLC and loot boxes.

In some countries, it's legal to sex up girls as young as 13 or lower. Just because it's "legal" doesn't make you any less of a creep, you passive aggressive creep.

Are you mentally handicapped? There is no active part in a movie or a book. A retarded limbless baby can watch a movie from start to finish.

Yup. The only reasonable conclusion to the question of what happens after death is to acknowledge that we don't know enough about ourselves or the universe and probably never will. We can't just assume that what little we know is the whole truth. There may be a god and no afterlife. There may be an afterlife and no god. I agree that there's probably nothing though.

I'm the user with the 20 year old girlfriend, 14 to 15 is legal in my country (France) depending on the circumstances.

What evidence is there to give from nothingness? There's no evidence of your existance because you didn't exist. That's like saying you can't prove that elephants can't run an apartment complex underwater because we've never seen an elephant run an apartment complex underwater and fail at it.

I'm 30 and I feel like a single day has not passed since I was 16.

Being a creep also depends on the circumstances. It so happens that your circumstances make you qualified for being one.

The afterlife is basically that the atoms we are made of will form something else in the far distant future because they won't go away just because we die

There is no active participation in watching a movie or reading a book. You idiot. I rest my case.

Dead by Daylight and Environmental Station Alpha mostly. Thinking about buying A Robot Named Fight.

Do you not have even high school education in media theory? If you don't, what the FUCK are you doing here arguing this shit with actual grownups?

I'm 30+ and I played those when they were new.

Attached: Whodunnit.gif (250x150, 340K)

Yeah, but without your consciousness, its not much of an afterlife. The question is if you will ever be reformed by the same atoms again in exactly the same way? Could the same processes and atoms occur in space if time is infinite? Are these the processes of the universe cyclical? If time isn't linear, can our lives occur again? We have no evidence to suggest the soul exists, but maybe we just haven't discovered enough yet.

God no. Atoms? Fucking rocks have atoms. The only thing that is you is your brain; your face, youur arms, your dick is all just part of your vessel. It's not you.

OK, creep.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming
You getting old. Yes, games became much shittier lately,.but you won't enjoy even older ones as much now. Your subconscious tells.you you're wasting your time while you could be.doing something productive with your life.

I used to play in UT 2004 tournaments back in the day, I even won a copy of HL2 with a hat and strategy guide.
I attempted to reinstall and play 04 like a year or so ago and Holly shit I was way slower
I think my twitch shooter days are over now

I'm not saying it's one thing or another, but I think many views are simpy too reductionist. We cannot know what it means for us to die, we can only speculate. Try not to be a dickhead if God is real, but don't get hung up on dying.

Who wants to live forever anyways? Clearly, we aren't meant for it.

Actually I am wasting my life with older vidya just fine.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
Hideo Kojima

>Any tired old gamers here? What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?

The approach is that you're used to gaming all the time, and you're trying to force yourself into continue to play. That's the wrong approach.

Instead ONLY play game if you're genuinely interested in it. Only. That could be an older game, or a new title.

Find new hobbies to fill the void.

Nothing would please me more.

You are just lost cause, even your subconscious has given up on you. Its.like a.chronic wanker who don't feel no shame after fap sessions anymore

Except for, you know, interpretation? Also, ever heard of books like Chazarian Dictionary?

Retarded zoomers spending their parents money on microtransactions and lootboxes, taking away the incentive of companies to make a profit by making the best game possible seeing how adding microtransactions makes way more money without added cost. You don't even have to try to make a game decent anymore. And yes I know that's a really generalising statement.

I figured I'd get replies by guys like you. 3D gaming can only continuously get better and better graphically. Devs also continue more and more to strive for realism and to tell movie type stories with these modern games. When gaming was 2D it was seen as childish or for nerdy guys. This was well before indie hipsters took over and are now making their artsy 2D pixel games that aren't in any way the same as old 2D was with how the developers approached designing 2D games. They weren't trying to make artistic statements or tell something too deep for you. They were simply mostly about making quality video games.

3D did in fact ruin gaming even if it was always going to happen eventually. Had gaming stayed 2D it wouldn't have attracted massive amounts of casuals. In fact arcades might have lasted much longer in the US or not died out at all who knows.

Wagie, what are you doing posting on Yea Forums? You need to be back at work, paying for my neetbux! Chop chop wagie

I wouldn't know because I don't go to any.
I'll show you if you come over my place :^)

Holy crap you guys couldn't be more wrong and dumb. First of all you cannot compare 2D gaming to black and white movies with no sound. You strike me as the type of guy that dislikes 2D games. 2D games give a different quality to gameplay that 3D cannot ever replicate. Which is why they still get made to this day unlike soundless black and white movies. As for the second user, no you are fucking extremely wrong. Were you even alive in the 90's kid? Games like MGS were praised to high heaven because there wasn't anything like it before then. It was praised for emulating movies. FFVII the same. In fact it was marketed virtually exclusively through its FMV's.

Before you two talk again understand what you are really talking about rather than spout emotional nonsense.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
It just got to be a too big guy (for you). The flight plan listed too many people and the plane's about to crash with no survivors. From the ashes the fire rises and we might have a reckoning for the industry.

>Also what are you currently playing right now?
Assasins Creed Odyssey, Ni No Kuni (on hacked PS3), WoW: WOTLK on a single-player private server mod.

I'm 39 and gotten quite bored with vidya. Some days I don't play at all, some days it's just an hour or two. Most of the games I'm currently playing are excellent for that, since I can save quite often.

Based, god bless social democracy.

Attached: 1540151741634.webm (1440x508, 1.75M)

lol you miss arcades? Can't you just get mugged someplace else?

Sometimes I wonder if maybe Video Games aren't shit any more and that maybe I'm just too old for them. I know a lot has changed since I was a kid, but the majority of people I talk to are happy with the way video games are and could care less about "the industry" or seeing a change in it. Obviously the game industry is anti consumer, but the consumer will consume regardless. Maybe we're just not the target demographic any more.

Attached: 1560675121871.jpg (525x618, 31K)

Its down to the individual. Tom Cruise is more youthful at 50 then some fat neet in his early 20s who eats garbage and never moves.
If you all were so terrified about your age, you'd do something about it.
Good genetics also help. I've seen 30 year olds in europe who look better than a 16 year old mutt.

Not a single thing thing what I wrote did you prove wrong though, they were still very very far from movies in 1996.

>the prime is 25. each year after that is basically worse than you were in your young 20s.
That only goes for women

Based

Rarely cringed so hard at a post

why is everyone here so concerned with supposed biological prime when nobody actually takes advantage of it? if you're a skinny or morbidly obese chud during your teenage years and fitten up in your 30s the difference will feel like night and day.
i had shitty skin and was skinnyfat when i was 16. now i have clear skin, better hair and better fitness at 26 when im "past my prime" nevermind i can lift ten times the weight and run twice as far.
why does everyone here live in some bizzaro world where you turn into a geriatric old coot the moment you turn 26?

Arcades are still around in some cities and malls. I even noticed at a casino I live near that they opened some kind of hipster smoke bar for adults filled with arcade machines.

And you could argue they still are far from movies now. The point is that 3D introduced the idea big time that games can be cinematic. PS1 games were fucking full of cinematic. Some games so much so they had to be multiple discs. Seriously if you didn't even grow up during the time period and actually experienced the atmosphere don't act like you know what you are talking about.

>Yes. And that is called a passive experience.
So now we are completely changing the meanings of common use just to make your argument? Great. In that case, however, your original point does not stand, because by that logic, games are also passive experience.

>You're the one who can't tell the difference between passivity and activity.
If your participation on the experience changes the outcome of the experience, how is that passive again? You really don't get to tell others how they don't know the meanings of words when you have zero education on the subject AND you need to change the meaning of active and passive here.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
DLC or content that needs to be paid for and mobile gacha games. If someone told me 14 years ago that the Fate franchise was going to be worth a billion dollars I’d have rolled my eyes.

Don't forget you're here forever.

t.30yo boomer

This is idiotic and provably wrong. Striving for graphical fidelity is by no means tied to the number of dimensions your employ. Nor does it dictate the kind of experience you strive for. See games like The Last Express you mongoloid. There is no actual necessary causal connection between the choice to go 3D and the consequences you describe. Furthermore, your argument is that games were "ruined" by not remaining childish and brain-dead. If you don't see what is wrong with that claim, you are beyond any help. You are broken then.

>3D introduced the idea big time that games can be cinematic
We had literal interactive movies like dragon's lair before 3D though. The idea was always there

>why does everyone here live in some bizzaro world where you turn into a geriatric old coot the moment you turn 26?
Because most people around here are both very young, and very insecure, with absolutely NO idea of what to do with their existence past childhood. So they demonize it.

And my point is that introducing 3D isn't nearly as much of a milestone in becoming more cinematic as you idiots are trying to make it out to be.
I know, because unlike you, I grew up in the 90s and I experienced these games as they were released.

How are you lads dealing with your cagie today.

Games are unironically better now than they ever were. There's less to be excited about because the progress is slow now, so in terms of immediate impact modern games don't hit you the way old games did back in the day. But if I could choose between playing PS4 Spidey and Spidey 2 there's no way I'm picking 2 in current year. Or between nu-GoW and GoW2, I'll always pick nu-GoW. However GoW2 hit me way harder back in the day than nu-GoW did now. That's just how it is, the progress is slow now and the wow factor is gone

I'm in my 30s and I still have no idea what to do with my existence past childhood.
That's why I'm posting here, I guess. Don't be me, kids. Just don't.

Left my cagie last week. Worked for 5 years, but now I finally have enough money to quit and never work again. My advice is work hard and then when you inherit a large sum of money like I did you can quit your job. Good luck you can do it too

social media

>I'm in my 30s and I still have no idea what to do with my existence past childhood.
I don't think that is necessary a horrible thing as long as you have enough self-awareness not to blame the issue on external factors. It's not good, don't get me wrong, but it is still workable, and you can still be a decent human being as long as you are self-aware enough about it, and seek some way to get past it.

Thanks for the kind words, did not expect it.

If you ever:
>Paid for preorder bonus DLC
>Paid more for a digital deluxe edition
>Bought cashgrab DLC
>Spent money on microtransactions
>Supported companies that went full jew
>Bought a PC game for 60 bucks
>Paid a console subscription
>Spent any of your time/money following ecelebs

You are the reason why video games are dead.

Attached: disco dosage.gif (500x281, 278K)

I'm in very much the same situation. And I've spent years trying to wrap my head around it. And I have the habit of blaming people preferably only for dishonesty or self-imposed delusions. It may be a bit idealistic of me, but I think self-awareness and self-honesty are ultimately the only real fucking conditions for one to be a decent human being.

If you thought $50 PC game launches would last you were a fucking fool. Anyway, PC games go on discount a month after release now, so it's a pointless complaint.

What is the context of this? FUnny thing is that I'm a casual DB fan, so I've seen at most half the series. So there's all these strange episodes and scenes that I've never seen.

There's so enormously little chance that anybody who is gaming today to not check off at least one line from there, it's not even funny.

I still think there are plenty of good games, but any game that relies on the internet/multiplayer is fucking garbage nowadays thanks to game design meant to pander to braindead normies.
This wouldn't be a problem for me if MMORPGs weren't my favorite genre of game. It's impossible to find one that isn't painfully designed to funnel casuals and stoners down the pipeline.

So naturally I've hung up MMOs until a good one comes along. GW2 and W* were almost there. Unfortunately, online cancer has started infiltrating single player games too now. MHW, DDDA, fighting games of all genres, all of them are being infected with online cancer.

They are shit.

creativity has stagnated and the industry has turned into a big machine that creates products that condition players into brainless consumers.

Its a big soulless money making machine which is fine as that is the purpose of making games, its to make money but its out of touch with a key element to what a game should be, Fun.

There are many paths the industry could have ended up down but this is the one we're stuck with... FOR NOW

>Gonna be 26 in september

>Master of Magic and Kohan: Ahriman's Gift
Holy shit, that is actually a good taste. Two games you rarely if ever see mentioned around here too. Man, I feel like playing them all over again...
Also, if you haven't, go look up a game called Original War. I have a sneaking suspicion you might end up enjoying it as well. Just get the community patches to make it run.

>Also, you fags better buy EDF 5 when it becomes released for PC.
Is it really an improvement on EDF 4.5? Did they improve the fucking loot system and movement? I wanted to love EDF 4.5, but eventually, the insane tedium of collecting armor crates and slow and clumsy movement of Soldiers and the heavy class always gets to me before I can finish the campaign.

>zyzz death was 9 years ago

Is it over bros

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
Too many to list. There's issues all over the place:
-unqualified people working in the industry
-politics
-microtransactions insanity
-people at the top don't care about games
-game content being cut out more and more
-anti-consumer practices (we're getting less and less common features)
-disconnect between the devs and core gamers
-disconnect between the press and core gamers
-questionable journalism/inflated scores
-obsessive focus on recreating reality
-gameplay and challenge quality degrading
-paying for unfinished games have been accepted
-etc. etc.

These are just some of the issues.

>Also what are you currently playing right now?
Nothing at the moment. Been scooping up a lot of PS3 games for low prices in preparation of the great 'games-as-a-service' plague that awaits us. I can't relate to any of the big budget games coming out these days.

I'll join you in a month, happy birthday

You sound more like 50. Is this a LARP or are you just clueless? I'm 30 and I'm obviously not confused by jap shit and lolis because that's exactly what Yea Forums was a decade ago. Nothing really changed here except for the arrival of trannies, that is confusing.

I want to get back into Yakuza Kiwami.
But I also want to get back into Sekiro.
But I also want to play Baba is You

Attached: 299237.jpg (594x471, 110K)

>I can't relate to any of the big budget games coming out these days
Why? I'm confused by all this whining. Why is new God of War so much worse than old GoW if it plays pretty much exactly the same, just with an open hub on top. Why is new Spider Man bad if old Spider Man is good? How is Yakuza bad? How is The Last Guardian worse than Ico? People keep whining about soulless cashgrabs by EA and Ubi but EA and Ubi always produced soulless cashgrabs. Plenty of other games, more than ever in fact

I'd rather say photogrammery did that. 3D can be fine, but why would you push reality onto a medium that was built on imagination? I see all these modern games pushing to blur the borders between reality and games and I feel nothing.

Depression is a hell of a drug.

What did you get for your birthday, lad?

Attached: manlets btfo.webm (1920x1080, 2.89M)

I feel like any time I spend on one thing is time wasted I could be spending on another thing I want to do.
So I never do anything.

I don't think you know what photogrammery is, because that is a technique that was utilized only in a handful of games, enough to count on fingers of one hand.

>FOMO
>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear_of_missing_out

>how are brand new bad games worse than the bad games that came before them?
Gaming started dying in the mid-90s, kid. It's been pretty much all bad since then. God of War has always been fucking garbage, Spiderman was awkward and garbage. Ico was a pile of pretentious shit with bad gameplay.
>EA always produced soulless cashgrabs
Proof you have no idea about gaming in the 80s. Electronic Arts was godly in the 80s and early 90s.

I don't think the gaming industry is declining. It's just evolving, and we're not. Game nowadays are just becoming bigger and bigger, and us with a job don't have time for that.

Happy birthday user. I turned 26 yesterday

Comparing yourself to Napoleon is retarded beyond retardation. The man had a mental defect, his levels of ambition were beyond humanity and you shouldn't even think of comparing anyone to him.

Is it just me or does she look like she is hiding digust?

Also, happy birthday my dude.

I dunno man, modern day AAA games just feel really unstimulating and stagnant. Call that whining if you will. While we're getting all these graphical technological advances it doesn't necessarily equate to better games.

Strangely enough, amateur games look more interesting these days.

Happy birthday man. Don't waste time, get your life together because it only gets harder the older you get.

I might be confusing it for something else, but my point still stands. Why are devs bringing in actors likeness into games? Why are devs striving to replicate realism? Its absolutely an technological achievement, it still doesn't really bring anything interesting to the table.

Baldur's Gate 3 being developed by Larina Studios in partnership with Wizards of the Coast rekindled my hope that there's an actual good game on the horizon

>Why are devs bringing in actors likeness into games?
Why did painters strive to capture their model's likeness since the 15th century? That is a silly question and you know it. It comes from the desire to master your medium.

Profit and shareholders.

As long as they stick with RTWP.

Can I join you guys? 23 here. Already sold my soul to a desk job, graduated, and havent had fun in years. First game I ever played was Zelda 2.

Grim dawn, barotrauma and some indie games here and there not worth mentioning. Having an absolute blast with grim dawn tho. hated it the first two times around started over 6 new characters in the past month now. Great atmosphere and sounddesign, cool world design and enemies. Great game. Waiting for something like darkwoods or lost in vivo coming along the way sometimes soon

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
Politics and over monetization of games, maybe. Its sad that alot of companies like blizzard or valve just gave up on trying to make games they would enjoy and instead just try capitalizing on trends. They lost their soul.
Currently playing the original monster hunter and world, switching between the two when I get bored of the other.

>Why did painters strive to capture their model's likeness since the 15th century?
That's not really a good comparison in my opinion. Scanning an actor's face and body is not equivalent to recreating it by hand.

>That is a silly question and you know it.
Not really. It just indicates a lack of imagination in the AAA industry.

>It comes from the desire to master your medium.
Which I implied by calling it a technological achievement. It still doesn't do much to improve the game experience.

But, hey, if you enjoy hyperrealism in games then more power to you.

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
It costs too much money to make games.

Gacha shit should have never gotten popular, it is a blight
going through the EO games again, finished all of 1 to 3 and doing 4 now

I don't enjoy hyper-realism in the sligtest, but you are still an idiot who does not have the faintest clue what is really going on here.

I hate this doom and gloom shit. You dorks are just miserable and projecting it on games. I've been playing them since the early 90s and I still have a blast.

I enjoyed Demon Gaze and platinummed it, but didn't like Dungeon Travellers 2 because of the shitty enemy design mainly.
Would I like EO games?

>but you are still an idiot who does not have the faintest clue what is really going on here.
I assume you work in the industry then.

Fuck off with this normie feelgood shit. What's next, you have a loving wife and children, live in your own home and have a stable job with good income?
Get the fuck out of here.

I can't say if you'd like it since I don't know what exactly you like about dungeon crawlers. It is ny personal favorite franchise. 3 and 4 are definitely good starting points and worth a look.

it ceased to be a hobby, became too large and we all know the drill from there on

>28 years old

>I assume you work in the industry then.
You assume entirely wrong. Why do you even attempt assumptions about subjects that are entirely alien to you?

I want to be you

that didn't happen with D:OS so i very much doubt it'll happen with BG3. the very explicitly brutal trailer is a good sign too

Thanks, I'll give it a go.
What I like mostly are my characters getting stronger, finding synergies, figuring out strategies on beating a boss, these kind of stuff.

>You assume entirely wrong.
My bad.

>Why do you even attempt assumptions about subjects that are entirely alien to you?
And how exactly would you know that? now you're making the assumption and being passive aggressive while at it.

>Nothing really changed here except for the arrival of trannies, that is confusing.

Suspicions about the state of our food and water aside, trannies are a natural side-effect of social maladjustment and obsession over something as feminine as modern anime. Combine all that shit with an inability to get laid and it's no surprise Yea Forums turned into a virtual gay bar. I miss when Yea Forums used to joke about gay shit, not genuinely identify as homosexuals.

>And how exactly would you know that? now you're making the assumption and being passive aggressive while at it.
Well, for starters you pretend like a shift to 3D is inherently the cause for push for realism in games, that is quite enough to go from.

well I think you'll feel at home since those are the exact things EO does well. What it doesn't do well is making you feel lost, having really tough exploration like in Wizardry days. E. g. even the spinners in EO3 are fairly harmless. But if that doesn't matter you'll have a blast.

City of heroes came back so I'm playing that.

Other than the wife and kids bit I do alright yeah.

I play a lot of ballisticNG, classic monster hunter and elite dangerous, more out of habit at this point. Games have become a mindless way to switch off for me now.

what made gaming shit? mainstream culture.

playing mgsv

I hardly think anime is to blame. If anything, anime still pushes very traditional view of male and female gender roles.

I don't actually mind not having really tough exploration as long as there is still a reasonable challenge. Too much overtuned confusing teleport mazes could become too draining and annoying for me.

Anime is the most feminine thing in the world nowadays. The closest you get to a masculine anime is Jojo and that's still gay as fuck.

Don't create hopes for old relationships, they will make you suffer, like the remake/sequel of your favorite game, because you expected that everyone will be the same forever, the neet friends would still be neets, the friend who never had a girlfriend but always had his coworkers to go out, and the worse part.

I'm playing seiken densetsu 3 on an emulator, I hated the art in the remake.

Companies got cocky.
When you're fresh and have something to prove, you think
>"I'll put as much into this game as I can so that people buy it!"
When you're cocky, you think
>"How much do I really need to do for people to still buy this sequel?"

Simple as that. People aren't trying their best. If they were, they'd be more concerned with delivering the highest value product possible. They simply don't have to. Instead, they deliver what they think you deserve for the given price tag, and nobody will ever agree on what that is. This isn't exclusively a video game problem, this happens in every industry when it becomes a seller's market.

Turned 25 a few days ago. I still like vidya, not as much as before since everything has been going downhill for awhile. I however lost my love for RPGs and RTS games. Those used to be my favorite genres, now i can't even bother finished them. Shit sucks real bad.

>Anime is the most feminine thing in the world nowadays.
It really isn't. You seem to fail to grasp the difference between an object of admiration and identification. Anime's main appeal is that it allows people to indulge fantasy of females that would be attractive to them, because they are build on very traditional roles.

>you pretend like a shift to 3D is inherently the cause for push for realism in games
I never said that and now you're either making a bold claim or misunderstood me. I expressed that the current graphical advancement in AAA aren't really making the new game experiences any better. 3D is fine but striving towards realism is meaningless for a medium which was built on escapism. When I play a game don't want to be reminded about the world. I play a game to distract myself from it.

Also, 'pretend'? I guess it's bad to have a different opinion now.

>that is quite enough to go from.
Unless you back that up with what makes you an expert on the topic then this is a hollow argument.

27 here. Currently a student and as it's the summer I have all the free time in the world to catch up on gaming. I've been playing for a month straight more or less though so I'm eager to get back in the gym and focus on other productive stuff like that as well.

Gaming may have declined, but there's so many interesting old (and some new) games that I have yet to play that I'll never have to worry. I tend to squeeze every drop of enjoyment out of a game that I can though.

Been playing mostly:

>Supreme Commander
>Red Orchestra 2
>The Ship
>FTL
>The CS:GO battle royale mode. My younger brother got me into it.

Back in my day we didnt have a reply button, you just posted and left it up to other anons to string it all together and guess which response was to who. Hehe it sure was open ended

27-year-old here. I actually think gaming is better than it's ever been. The classics are more accessible than ever, emulation has made massive strides in the past 5 years, and each genre has carved itself a pretty good niche with tons of games that cater to each one. I don't enjoy games as much as I used to, but I think that's more due to lack of time and the stresses of life getting in the way than anything to do with the quality of games themselves. It's hard to esscape into a game for a weekend without a care in the world when you've got bills to pay, groceries to buy, a job to worry about, your family is ageing and you need to spend more time with them, etc. etc. The games themselves aren't any worse (outside of AAA Western garbage but I never played that shit anyway), it's just harder to get into the mindset where you can properly enjoy them.

Attached: 1547176538174.jpg (497x512, 39K)

companies caring about profits mostly and zoomers not caring about getting good, only caring about getting things in game as fast as possible

Eh nah. Awful post/advice.

The only possible role models (read: characters) in anime are idealized, copypaste women who embody every unrealistic standard of beauty and the quintessential Japanese beta male too pathetic to properly pursue them. If those sorts of characters are the only thing you watch regularly then of course you'll turn into a sad, warped little husk of a man. Your father and grandfather had role models like Sylvester Stallone or Robert Redford. You have what, fucking Shinji? Don't reply to me again faggot.

>3D is fine but striving towards realism is meaningless for a medium which was built on escapism.
That is a very, very dumb assumption. I don't exactly think "Teris" was based on escapism. To reduce the entire medium to sole functional dimension is very, very dumb. Games always had multiple functional dimensions at once. And this is not a matter of "opinions", but basic understanding of both the medium and history of western human tradition of reflection.

tl;dr

This is why I started getting /fit/ when I was 22. I realised I was in my prime and now was the only time in my life that I would be this strong and healthy. I wasn't fat (73kg 187cm) but man I was unfit. No my muscles don't get sore just from walking around all day and I have more energy. It's just a shame to know that it's all down hill from about next year, at least I took advantage of it while I could

Attached: 1550134259819.jpg (637x481, 66K)

25 is old as far as people who play video games go. Nobody is pretending to be a jaded old man, you faggot. Just a jaded old gamer.

Those games are very weak though, but they aren't bad like it was years ago. The decade of nogaems......maaaaan

>mad max mediocre.gif

Do you even know what half of the words you use mean? Do you realize that precisely the whole unrealistic imagery of feminity are very traditional views of gender roles? And people who are not brain damaged as you seem to be can actually see the difference between an object of admiration, and a fucking object of identification.
If there is something going on, it's the opposite side of spectrum, the systematic attack on masculity/feminity coming from the same "media critics" that absolutely ABHORE anime: from third wave feminism.

I'm 30+ and 25 is maybe pushing it, but 30 is definitely getting old especially for video games.

Life is shit.

The average age of gamers in every study that's ever been done is 30-40, try again zoomer.

Meh who gives a shit. Always fun to see pussies like you squirm.

>FTL

This "decline of gaming meme" is true, but it doesn't cause any problem for us over 25.
Like damn, you have a wife, you have kids or are planning on having them soon, you want to go climbing or biking with your friends, you have other hobby projects etc etc.
You pretty much can only fit one big game in a month. Currently for me that is Judgment, it's pretty good.

If you are a NEET 25+ year old though, try to fix the faults in your own life first, instead of complaining about the faults in the game industry. There is always the indiepill too.

lmao, I bet you also believe 50% of gamers are female

You sound like a huge cuckold

There are studies that have done age group by each platform, it still works out the same. Ironically Nintendo gamers are some of the oldest and Xbox are some of the youngest, which is pretty hilarious and makes a ton of sense if you think about it.

>That is a very, very dumb assumption
>To reduce the entire medium to sole functional dimension is very, very dumb
>And this is not a matter of "opinions", but basic understanding of both the medium and history of western human tradition of reflection.

Its not, it just a different perspective. Is it really that hard for you to accept that someone may not share the same outlook? Ironically your post makes you look more of what you imply I am.

Again, what makes you an expert on this topic other than the 'basic understanding of both the medium and history of western human tradition of reflection' because that's a vague argument. It just makes you look pretentious.

Yeah but it's kinda boring and easy once you play for a bit. That's another thing I think sucks about modern games, all the challengesoul is gone.

Happy birthday user.
I turned 25 today. I know I'm getting old because instead of wanting to go out and get drunk to celebrate, I'd rather stay in and watch older anime and turn in early.

>Its not, it just a different perspective.
No. Saying "I am specifically interest in escapist potential of gaming" would be perspective.
Claiming that the industry is rooted in escapism is simply being wrong. It's a claim about nature of the medium, not about yourself. Learn to be specific about what you say. But I suspect you do not want to do that because that would make nobody give a fuck about your claims to begin with.

And I don't give a fuck that me not being an idiot makes you feel insecure.

Incel alert

No wonders, you are here after all.

23, wippersnapper here but I'm not too far behind you fucks

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
The older I got, the more non-gaming activities I participated in, the more I got bored with sitting at home doing essentially nothing. My old friends stopped hanging out with me so I made some new ones that introduced me to the rave scene

Also I had some major identity issues a year back and now I'm a trap. Yes, I pass but I still have a man-voice. no, I'm not trans. I just like being cute

I guess I just outgrew the NEET life and I'm a lot happier for it. I honestly credit MGSV:TPP to be the reason I dropped games. It was the last game I bought on release at full price, the last game I played from start to finish, the last game I thoroughly enjoyed and it was the reason I stopped going on Yea Forums all day every day (I wanted to avoid spoilers). After this game my social life did a 180 and I never looked back. Video games are cool, but at the end of the day it's just pictures on a screen and nothing more.

>Also what are you currently playing right now?
Fighting games is pretty much all I play. I'm bad at shooters and I've lost my patience for story games. Although I recently bought Siege to play with my friends. I also bought he steam version of Vanquish so I'm looking forward to playing that again in silky 60fps goodness.

Harsh truth: Video games as an industry hasn't declined, you've just become more jaded and aware of the bullshit surrounding it all. 15 years from now, 10 year old zoomers will remember the games of today with the same exact nostalgia you remember Doom or Half Life or GTAIII with.

Are you that faggot that got pwnt in that other thread? Lmao you have to come here because you lost everywhere else! Word of advice, kid, if someone on Yea Forums can flawlessly dismantle your argument, then it's not ready for the real world.

Bravely Default is fucking garbage though. A disgrace to actual good JRPGs.

It is fantastic. Managed to get my first hard victory recently, now trying to beat at on Hard with Advanced Edition enabled. Then I'm going to give Captain's Edition a try. No luck so far, but I've gotten close a few times.

Doesn't surprise anybody in the slightest

Are you living in a 3rd world country where no ones reachs 50+?

Somebody climbed Mount Everest without legs and a 15 year old boy in south India performed a surgery on his dad to save his life.

It's easy to find excuses, but they are excuses nonetheless.

I wouldn't consider 26 old quite yet. And I don't really buy into the whole "tired" aspect. If you burn out on vidya, give it a rest for a while or pick up another hobby. Although it probably helps my point of view that after getting a full time job I don't have as much time for vidya as before.
I made the mistake of starting to many games, so now I have like 10 games started over the last few months that I haven't beaten yet. Working on Thronebreaker and Into the Breach at the moment, but I'm having fun.

Is it?

All the 20yo kiddies are hating because you're right.

What a hoot. Talk to us about tired and old when you've passed 30, sonny.

He has both legs and is not 15 years old, duh :^)

Unironically normalfags and the people who pushed the industry in that direction. Videogames used to be a nerd and niche thing so when they became mainstream everything goes downhill.

I’d honestly say microtransactions was the true death of vidya but dlc paved the way to it so that might be more blameable. That being said microtransactions and dlc aren’t inherently bad but because of the toxic nature of humanity they are designed in a way to take advantage of humans

>It's a "The GM is a total shitbag" episode

It's like McDonalds SotN, it's a mess and pales in comparison to the polish and art design of SotN but satisfying enough to enjoy on it's own

>I figured out what the fuck was making me so tired and lazy this entire time.
whats your secret user

>in DMD mode
What?
That reminds me, I was playing l4d2 and someone said the writing on the walls referenced something called "depeche mode". I scoured the forumz to find out how to unlock it and what depeche mode actually did. It wasn't until weeks after I gave up that I found out they were just some shitty band kek. Being autistic is kinda cool sometimes because even the little things can be adventures.

Nintendo could save gaming

Why are toddlers so obsessed with mobile and gacha shit?

Huh?

DMD = Dante Must Die Mode

It's a meme, you dip

If you've never played DMC3, DMD mode is the hardest difficulty - adding bone breakingly hardness to a game that was already pretty fucking difficult

Don't worry pal, a degenerate already tried messing with her through social media and I had the big speech with her, she says I'll be her only man for a big while, we blond

I was agreeing with you.

>believing somebody with 2X chromosomes

user..

>Any tired old gamers here?

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?

>Also what are you currently playing right now?
Deus Ex 1

30 here yall are dumb shits with these "im 26 and just went through a brief age panic"
Fuck right off. If you're not brain dead your best years are still ahead.

Are you implying shooters are harder than fighting games? Lol get a load of this guy

I was in a kitchen. If I go to a hell I fully expect it to be that job. Now I'm overnight security and I smiled naturally on my own for the first time in years

It's food. The food industry is garbage and is literally slowly killing people.
I was surprised because I was never fat, yet I'm still taking care of my diet now. It's so hard to find good food that I'm a skeleton now. I still feel insanely better.

>Because I figured out what the fuck was making me so tired and lazy this entire time.

why would you leave us hanging like that

>skellington on Yea Forums feels good
>implying

>Food industry is killing People
>People have higher life expectations than ever

huh

Turn 44 at the end of this month, I'm playing BF5 on PC and Days Gone on PS4. Getting the itch for a good rpg, but I really dislike jrpgs. Maybe I'll go back and restart Kingdom Come because I love a little more realism. If I could get passed the graphics I would go way back and play some Darklands for my medieval rpg fix.

>People have higher life expectations than ever
I'm sure that better healthcare also helps

Happy birthday - I'll join you in about two weeks.

Never said otherwise.

Underage larper confirmed. Move along, folks.

27 years old. I will be 28 in a few months.

I want to kill myself more than ever. I wish I wasn't born. I travel without seatbelt in the offchance I get into an accident and I can die

I'm 27 user, but you will know better I assume.

>Turned 25 recently
>see this thread
Oh fuck, its happening isn't it?

I'm living healthy and workout, supported by the food Industry. It is not their fault that people survive on Cheetos user.

downfall was around xbox era, when gaming started becoming big business and focusing on normie demographic

normies are stupid and have shit taste and no reference of quality so of course it worked and so the devs make more money by giving lessand the normies eat it all up because they’re fucking stupid

games are also no longer passion projects and instead have a board of fat cats who don’t play games making decisions based around what everyone else is doing and what sells

30 here. Games are better than ever. But I've been playing PC only for the last 18 years so I don't know how consoles are fairing.

Currently playing Mordhau, Arma 3, Pulsar, and Factorio.

>I'm living healthy
Not if you aren't eating healthy. Just because you aren't fat doesn't mean you aren't eating trash that will give you cancer in a decade or two. Since you seem so supportive of the food industry, I doubt you are in any way careful with what you shove into your mouth, you probably think supermarket bread is fine.

>35
>out of work 3 years

Is Witcher 3 another victim of casual culture or is it head and shoulders above the AAA filth? Discuss

Attached: 8F5BBD7E-A998-4613-8ED4-DF6FD5E6F748.jpg (259x195, 10K)

fuck dave’s bread

Yes and yes. It's a story heavy open world action-adventure that values cinematic presentation over tight and robust gameplay, which is to say it's lowest common denominator shit. But in terms of quality it's well above Assassin's Creed and all that other slop.

casual culture, it’s really not that far from being skyrim. But even skyrim doesn’t let you remake any potion for just 1 alcohest. CDPR does a great job advertising to “hardcore pc gamers” while ultimately delivering a product that’s not too far off from AAA slop. Really popular with the reddit mindset as the customers can act like they’re playing some underground thing while actually just playing another shallow skyrim tier wannabe-rpg assassins creed clone

user, there is no need to be mad. Even the "healthy" food you buy most likely comes from the food industry. The food industry even includes things like agriculture and agronomy.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_industry

Read this before you decide to be a smartass on Yea Forums again.

this is being pendantic, when someone refers to an industry as a generalization in while you can safely assume it’s in reference to the mainstream aspects of that industry

>What do you think was ultimately responsible for the decline of gaming?
Public moral concern trolls hand wrining everything to death. It killed off everything fun on the internet for the most part and I hate each and every one of them.

26. There hasn't been a decline in game. You just want to relive your childhoor rather than enjoy games. They will never grasp what you want because you never played these games as a child.

Even if it is being pedantic, I have no reason to assume in the favour of anyone implying I don't know how to read a list of ingredients. That user clearly just tries to elevate himself above others because of his eating habits, I met vegans that are less of a dick than him.

Doesn’t DOS2 feel like a blast from the past in terms of quality?

pleb casual in your youth and a pleb casual in your old age

For the first act. It's been a long time since I played a game that gets so progressively terrible that it became a chore to finish.

if it's only play like diablo
>seriously i got the fuckn "cannot open portals glitch"
DOS1 and i said fuck it i won't play this shit

How so? Could you elaborate

Just turned 30 but while many AAA games have gone downhill by focusing too much on looks and mapsize and making things more accessible while still rising the price to cover for whatever cinematic bullshit they're attempting this time, indie devs have picked up the slack by maintaining their love of games and being genuinely innovative.
Hell, that's the whole reason why console systems have a viable library anymore because they see the good shit on PC and coax the devs to releasing the games on their systems at a markup so they both get a nice cut of the profits. They're even getting reskins of existing indie games as part of their franchises now (Cadence of Hyrule)!

Holy fuck so many old fucking boomers on this site, imagine being on 4channel boards after the age of 19. Couldn't be me KEK. Fucking underachieving forgotten embarassments to your families, BASED. Get a job and a family, stop spending your time on an anonymous anime board.

You have to be absolutely blind not to see a decline. I only got into PC gaming recently at the age of 24, but I went back and played classics from the late 90s and early 00s to see what the deal was and it blew my mind. If you haven’t played good games your benchmark for quality will be significantly lower.

I’m also not bored or depressed, I know that will skew one’s perceptions. A lot of people hate games because they hate life. I hate games because they’re predatory and meant to be played by the lowest common denominator which kills complexity and nuance.
