Hi, I am an independent game dev making a new kind of strategy game. It's like the Tactics games of old except both players play their turns out at the same time.

I hate mobile games like the rest of you, so I am trying to make the kind of mobile game that's deep enough that I would actually play.

The game is called Battlecraft and its coming out soon for iOS.

Also, feel free to share your own game dev projects here too.

thanks ill try there

What happens if both players want to move onto the same tile at the same time?

A dust cloud pops up on that square. A little brawl ensues where the unit with more health usually wins (its a random range of damage depending on the unit type).

Ah, interesting. I have 0 experience with game dev, but like to think about possible games. I'd like to make some sort of 1v1 tactics game someday, trying to make it like a fighting game as much as I can (so VERY little rng if any at all). I couldn't solve the issue I asked about and was considering going with territory-owned tiles, similar to Megaman Battle Networks.

Yea i used to play fighting games competitively but got sick of practicing mechanical skills all the time. That's why i made this game like pseudo-real time where everything happens in stages and you have time to make strategic choices.

Very few rng events except for critical strike chance and the small dice roll on the brawl i mentioned earlier.

If you're gonna get into game dev I'd recommend trying to start with the simplest idea first. Most people (myself included) try to combine different game genres and its difficult to execute properly.

>I hate mobile games like the rest of you, fellow kids
>Check out my mobile game

Replace the voxel graphics with cute anime girls and then I will buy your game.

frozen synapse did it

Is it like vandal hearts 2?

I see it as a challenge to make a fun mobile game that's got depth and isn't pay to win.

That artstyle doesn't suit the that camera perspective.

Had to look this one up. Kind of but it is less complicated. You only make one action per turn

How so? The game has more detailed voxel art then most minecraft clones so you can still make out the silhouette of the units from far away.

Okay, well ignore my cynicism and work on your art and sounds.

So a bit like Frozen Synapse/other games? Could be cool.

Check the image's thumbnail and see if it's still make sense

I guess so. Prediction is a big part of the game. It's really satisfying to guess where someone will move and land an attack right there.

Look into banghowdy. That had a similar premise.

Looks interesting, but still traditional turn based from what I can tell.

Not exactly. The characters all did there actions at the same time with some having higher initiative. This is determined by the pips under the characters model that fills up when there ready to go.
It's more akin to ATB then actual turnbase and some characters are faster/slower then others. Taking the right team and knowing the weakness was crucial as well as knowing the map your getting into.
The soundtrack is really good too.

Ah ok. I thought about doing priority too but it makes the game more complicated. I tried to go with something that's more visually clear and have events play out roughly how you would expect. There are built in priorities like a shield spell triggering before an attack if its on the same turn

Ffs don't make it have voxel graphics and then go and call it "something-craft" you creatively bankrupt clown
