the memory card debacle was a form to mitigate costs, unlike Nintendo, Sony uses a subsidized hardware price strategy

No, but if we are talking about sales, then just like how the PS2 btfo the Gamecube and PS4 btfo the Wii U and the Switch. Who says Sony can't beat some underpowered little Mario player? They always have the better hardware, better build quality, and third party support that matters. They just need to support it all the way and not abandon it like the Vita.
