Why won't Sony make another handheld? They could probably make a handheld today with base PS4 level of power inside and btfo the Switch. Instead, they're infatuated with shitty VR.
Why won't Sony make another handheld...
I'm like way past Snoy, they censor everything so I'm never buying anything from them again.
Probably because vita didn't sell well enough for them. It's just business. No hard feelings dude.
why is black ops vita photoshopped onto the left psp? and that was trailer alpha gameplay you put there too
I hope. I don't want to buy nintendo shit
I hate it, we all hate it, but you know it's true: ]spoiler]mobile games.
It's just a shitty YT thumbnail for clickbait. Don't take it so seriously.
ARM based processors couldn't match a PS4, and sourcing x86 processors from AMD would give it a shorter battery life than the dualshock's 4 hours
It would also cost way more than the switch while not offering a "docked" mode (it would be competing with their main consoles) that would actually allow it to use its hypothetical performance advantage.
fuck
>releases another handheld
>drops support after a year
for what purpose? Sony of America openly sabotaged the Vita
>btfo the Switch
Just like PSP BTFO DS and Vita BTFO 3DS right?
they could make a mobile vr setup so they can push their vr market and mobile market with the same hardware.
because they won't have ape escape in it
Because they’ll just make the same mistakes
(Crazy overpriced memory cards)
Psp is an amazing handheld but with vita they shot themselves in the foot
the memory card debacle was a form to mitigate costs, unlike Nintendo, Sony uses a subsidized hardware price strategy
>Nintendo
overprices the hardware (Wii and 3DS were both $250 at launch)
>Sony
overpriced the memory cards
Because the Vita sold terribly and the only games people bought on it were Japanese, ie the kind of games Sony is trying to avoid now.
Seriously why not just make a model with Mirco SD? Or introduce an adapter?
Might steal my nephew's Vita and mod the shit out of it. Worth it Yea Forumsros?
No, but if we are talking about sales, then just like how the PS2 btfo the Gamecube and PS4 btfo the Wii U and the Switch. Who says Sony can't beat some underpowered little Mario player? They always have the better hardware, better build quality, and third party support that matters. They just need to support it all the way and not abandon it like the Vita.
a good deal of Vita's appeal are the pantyquest weeb games, Sony is literally censoring this shit
For the Vita Sony sold it as a handheld that would have AAA games. It didn't work so they abandoned it in less than a year. Old Sony doesn't give a fuck about handhelds because it could not sell movies on it, current Basedny hates handhelds because it may become again the otaku machine.
its incredible how Snoyfags immediately move to consoles whenever the truth about their shitty handhelds come to fruition
>HAHAHA PS4 BEATS NINTENDO SWITCH HAHAHAH!
>well what about handhel-
>NO NO NO NO NO NO! WE TALK ABOUT CONSOLES! NOT HANDHELDS! THEY DONT COUNT!
Jumps to consoles in a handheld thread jeez man have some pride.
Piracy. They didn't stop after the PSP and went after the Vita.
this
Sony only cares about graphics now. If they released a handheld they'd have to actually make games where the selling point is the gameplay not "muh 4K textures and million poly faces".
Short answer is it would do even worse than the Vita did because the handheld market has collapsed.
PSP software sold really poorly and no matter what they tried to put on it or how many good third party games it got, or how many advertising campaigns they tried nothing could fix it. They ended up selling over 80 million units which by itself sounds super impressive for their first foray into the handheld space but their software attach rate only ended up being about 4.85:1. For comparison their worst performing software attach rate sans Vita was on PS1 that was in the 9:1 range, and their best to date was the PS3 in the 11:1 range.
Vita came out and it sold way, way, way worse than the PSP did in both hardware and software. They've been covering up hardware sales for years, and have never once given a total for software so it's believed it has an even worse software attach ratio than the PSP had. US sales data leaked last summer and everything sold very poorly with 9 of the 10 top sellers being released in the launch year. The top selling game only sold 400k units, and the 10th best selling game sold only 200k units in the US. It's very likely that the top 10 selling list was under 3 million units in the US, the biggest video game market Sony has. That's also life to date sales for the platform including some games that went on sale in the $1-5 range multiple times.
So Sony had underperformed with PSP but they gave it another go with Vita and had everything go even worse, even when they again tried to throw everything they could on it to make it sell only for it to continue to flop release after release. There is no way I can see them try again.
But Switch already beat the PS4 in Japan.
i would honestly be shocked if sony doesn't give it one more try. the reason sony dropped handhelds is because they thought they couldn't compete with smartphones anymore, but the switch is selling really well in japan.
>Black Ops Vita on PSP
>God of War 3 on PSP
>Uncharted 3 on Vita
>Resistance 2 on PSP
The only legit one there is GTA.
>make a handheld today with base PS4 level of power
And a 3 minute battery life.
Why didn't microsoft try to compete in the handheld market?
>but the switch is selling really well in japan.
Hell, even the Vita did well in Japan despite no support.
What games should I get for my Vita?
I only have Killzone, Uncharted, Book of Memories, and Gravity Rush.
p4g
it's the game that everyone wants apparently
I didnt like Digital Devil Saga or Nocturne back on PS2. I dont think the series is for me.
>Why won't Sony make another handheld?
Because they don't understand that market and the Vita was a bigger failure than the WiiU
>They could probably make a handheld today with base PS4 level of power inside and btfo the Switch.
They can't. Impossible technically at the moment
>Instead, they're infatuated with shitty VR.
Lol not even the case
the problem with Sony vs Nintendo is that Sony pride themselves with making a lot of very high budget games that take almost 3+ years to make.
Nintendo has the benefit of having a lot of exclusive games that doesn't take more than 2 years to develop and have many development teams working on different games of different genre's, so their games can easily transfered to handhelds.
Sony doesn't have that type of luxury since, once again, they pride themselves with making high budgeted, hyper-realistic games. Whenever they try going into other genre's they tend to fail a lot. So they can't really give their handhelds the type of support they want
>Why won't Sony make another handheld?
Because they swung at the bat twice and both times disappointed, the second badly enough to compare to the Wii U.
When you're making money selling movies and baseline Blu-Ray players to people, why bother hoping that the third time's the charm?
Just buy one, they’re not expensive
>on a whim go fish my psp3000 out of a drawer to play it for the first time in years
>the battery had exploded
Thanks sony.
Because people don't want to play shit like Uncharted or Killzone on a handheld. Nintendo games are colorful, fast-paced and casual, it just feels more natural on handheld.
You could almost say the same thing the other way around. It feels more natural to play "serious" games on your TV screen than Mario. That's why everyone plays their Switch in handheld mode.
And I say that as a huge Sonyfag, and I absolutely loved the PSP back when it came out, because it was kind of crazy to be able to play games like that on a handheld back then. And there was some pretty great games on it too. But I never got the Vita, even though it looks like a better PSP, simply because I don't care about playing the games, especially on handheld. It just seems uncomfortable.
The thing about handheld is you can just pick it up for 5-10 minutes when you're bored, when you're taking a shit, when you're too lazy to turn on your console, etc. But if the only games you have on it is Metal Gear Solid, Ys or Dragon's Crown, it kind of defeats the whole point, because you want to really get into these types of games. Whereas you could just play one or two levels in Mario, turn it off, wipe your ass and go back to doing something else
Would YOU want to compete with both Nintendo and the Switch for otaku and nerd bucks and Android and Apple for casual and bucks?
thats the thing with them. it's all business. no risks for snow. no dirty stuff. gore is the most dangerous they're willing to get.
This
>Sony kills Vita off after a year or two
>Everyone says Vita is dead
>Japs keep it alive for another 5 or so years through sheer volume of games
They literally kept a system alive without any real support from the owner of the system in question.
