which one is passion? ((they both fucking suck btw)))

Both play like dogshit. We've played good metroidvania and we aren't going back: it's called Bloodborne.

>one has one sword and one spell
>the other has multiple weapons and spells with different stats, effects, techniques and animations

why again is hollowshill so liked?

>>one has one sword and one spell

Is that really true?

That's a Soulsborne though

You only have the one weapon, but it can be upgraded. There are three spells, each of which can be upgraded once, as well as a few movement options that you unlock along the way. There are a bunch of charms and charm combinations that can change the way you play in a significant way. Don't listen to that guy, it sounds like he gave up at the casual filter.

Check Axiom Verge.

Charms barely change the gameplay compared to stuff you can do in normal igavanias

Souls are literally just 3D Metroidvanias.

*A Robot Named Fight

I cant stand you turds.
>its super limited in these ways
>but thats okay charm system
Charm system was boring as fuck and them going whole hog on it made for a worse game.

That with the massive lack of good movement abilities and meh layout design made it just a another game rather than anything special.

The entire Metroidvania genre is a whole lot of "nothing special" shoveled into a big box. Nothing really stands out about any of these games.

The metroidvanias I like usually have things to make them stand out, whether its really good movement or on iga's case the plentiful rpg aspects to mix things up at will.

HK only had art for me personally and sadly I'm not an atmosphere or graffix fag

“Lack of good movement abilities”
Are you out of your fucking mind? Did you even play the game past the first boss?

>rather than anything special.

Why does Yea Forums love Hollow Knight then?

SOTN and A Robot Named Fight are not games I'd describe as "nothing special"

If you want a genre of games that are actually nothing special, look at ARPGs - a genre that hasn't changed since Diablo 2

Please remind me of the 4 or so boring movement abilities.
Once I found out the horizontal dash to clear really large gaps was the last ability the disappointment really started to hit.

Then realize how little the charm system did to affect gameplay made me stop fawning over a meh indie game

SotN nothing special. There's nothing that really stands out about them aside from being a Metroid game with a bunch of shitty tacked-on loot and puddle-deep RPG mechanics.
I would say Metroidvanias are on equal ground with Diablo-style iso-loot shit, as in they've gone as far as they could from basically the first game.

Do you want a fucking button to teleport you to the last boss room or something? God damn I knew zoomers were impatient but this is a real big yikes from me

>wanting more abilities to make movement and combat more fun is impatience

kek try again turdburglar

I remember the part in Dark Souls where I got a power up that allowed me to reach areas that were originally not possible to, and ultimately increased my mobility and speed of travel.

>tfw souls could have been this is they kept a little more of evergrace's dna in it
I miss gear that had awesome abilities like super sprint or hover.

>If you want a genre of games that are actually nothing special, look at ARPGs - a genre that hasn't changed since Diablo 2.
So you mean like Symphony of the Night and how the genre has evolved? The only meaningful switch-up from SOTN was the transition to 3D with Dark Souls, which spawned a newer and far more interesting genre that's adventurous and actually immersive.

You realize das1 is just alttp with more melee weapons right?

I think the game would be better if they replaced all the saverooms with teleporters except for the one next to all the NPCs. Then exploring the castle would feel more like an adventure and it'd be up to you when you felt you needed to heal, save, and check up on all the NPCs before jumping into the teleporter and exploring again.

This.
It's why Souls has infinitely better world design. You can progress in a number of ways and you really never need to backtrack to some forgettable shit hole because you found "boots of double jump"

ARPGs hit the wall in innovations early, the biggest being Torchlight letting you send your hireling back to town to sell your items while you kept questing, which at this point is an ancient game (I remember when that game was new and the genre has kept itself in the mire with shit like Grim Dawn)

I feel like we've only just started scraping the barrier to innovation that could be in Metroidvanias, like the recent addition of randomly generated levels and starting points in a few of them

I'm enjoying Bloodstained, it reminds me a lot of SoTN and AoS - there's lots of content (items, random events, etc.) Hollow Knight is an excellent game, and may indeed be my favorite metroidvania, but its kind of barebones in comparison.

more like SHITstained lmao

>das1 is just alttp
I hate zoomers

Super Metroid is the only great Metroidvania anyway.

Attached: 1556130766440.jpg (1260x1600, 940K)

>zoomer
>for a game that came out in 1996

How is Hollow Knight barebones you fucking idiot? It's a steal at $15 and it has three times the content Shitstained has.

No but you do a fair bit of pulling levers and backtracking, without any cool new abilities

Why is the Hollow Knight fanbase attacking Bloodstained so ferociously?

After playing through Hollow Knight twice I must say Bloodstained is better. Hollow Knight gets dull, slow and depressing. The big thing about it is the boss fights, and that's pretty much half the game's content.

Because muh soul

It's just 1 autist, every good game needs one

you get one weapon that can be upgraded in HK, Bloodstained has way more variety and pretty much each weapon has special moves you can find

>one guy spouting stop liking things that arent what I specifically like
That and the fags trying to fit in with him are all it is.

Because they are scared of competing against other indie metroidvania.

Not that user, but I found it kind of barebones in terms of progression and abilities and such. The way the gameplay evolves and how the character grows way more capable is one of the bigger appeals in these types of games for me, but Hollow Knight is kind of basic bitch in that regard. The game plays more or less the same throughout, you can choose to focus on spell damage or your nail but that's about it.

>people actually surprised a game made by fucking australians has a shitposting fanbase

Most of the weapons in Bloodstained are useless though. Most people will use two handed weapons anyway.

I haven't finished the game so I can't comment, but what I have played around with (including the 8-bit weapons) are a lot more fun than the Nail.

Hands up if you want more metroid and less vania.

Hi, I'm here

>keeps hands down

What's the difference? No RPG grinding?

What if the let Samus do melee now that she fights in Smash?

play environmental station alpha. the hookshot in that game is fun to use.

I don't know if these threads are to promote the game or reee at it

yes

I think it's one moron not realizing he's promoting Bloodstained. Everyone and their mother has already bought Hollow Knight, so the only thing this thread does is advertise another game in the same genre which HK fans enjoy.

>hollow knight
>unlock dash
>can dash a fixed distance in fixed directions
>super metroid
>unlock dash
>can run at high speeds but also charged and stored to perform a shinespark to launch yourself across large distances or high in the air or rocket off of slopes. Can also be used strategically to do damage

Because they are no life retards.

>Once I found out the horizontal dash to clear really large gaps was the last ability the disappointment really started to hit.
Are you talking about the Crystal Heart? That's not even the last movement upgrade. The Monarch's Wings immediately come to mind. Although I love how you criticize the lack of movement options as well as the lack of depth to the charm system, while missing the fact that the charms allow for an additional movement option (downwards dash).

call monarch's wings what it is. it's double jump, it's nothing new or interesting
>downward dash
whoahh, downward dash....

Hollow Knight

>Pros
Big ass map
Some badge combos
Bosses and minibosses
Art style pretty original

>Cons
Some areas are just plain garbage
Money is fairly worthless at some point, they had to fix that with DLC
Barely any complex mechanics
Movement mechanics are sluggish, it feels like a slow Megaman X with a pogo mechanic

Bloodstained

>Pros
Cute slut
Varied weaponry, tons of options for combat
Fast paced
Different environments
It's pretty much like previous castlevanias

>Cons
Visuals and mechanics a bit janky and cheap
Map not that big, more linear
Hours wasted on crafting shit and fetch quests

>hurr you stupid cuz you dont remember the exact order of upgrades from 2 years ago
Ok

>downward dash
>movement
You dont seem to understand at all user.
Tons of metroidvanias give ample ways to move around levels by the end especially.

If you think the movement in HK is even remotely close to SoTN or SM then you must be acting stupid on purpose

Stop falling for the bait.

boards.fireden.net/v/search/text/>Released 3 years after Kickstarter/

>I think it's one moron not realizing he's promoting Bloodstained.

All those threads saying Fallout 76 was a bad game? All a lie, we wanted you to buy it.

Attached: 1558723584816.jpg (474x355, 17K)

Hollow Knight is good but it doesn't look as good or have nearly the animation work that Bloodstained has

>oh cool, well-received metroidvania, time to check it out

>anime shit

Attached: V4DE2XI[1].gif (210x282, 1.28M)

>Movement mechanics are sluggish, it feels like a slow Megaman X with a pogo mechanic
this is so on point it hurts

So you dont like half of the castlevanias I assume?

Someone gets it.

When Axiom Verge came out everyone was comparing it to Metroid. That game mechanically has little to do with it other than exploration. Maneuvering the character feels more like you're playing contra. Hollow Knight devs have no consideration for this, as nothing is really flexible. All mechanics are simplistic as a simple platformer. It's no more complex than Gato Roboto. It's also pretty fucking laggy input wise, the fucking thing feels so heavy you're spamming the dash constantly.

not him, and I like Bloodstained, but the anime-styled Castlevania games legitimately were a step down (Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin). Rondo of Blood was the exception.

So, your last castlevania was IV on SNES?

I can't comment on SotN, never played that. Super Metroid's movement does seem deeper than HK's, though, I agree there. I still think HK's is quite nice.
>double jump
>needle jump
>dash
>crystal heart
>downwards dash
>downwards smash
>single-wall wall-jump
btw, not my fault you can't remember your own playthrough even though it was such a negatively emotional experience for you.

I'll call them by their name because that's what they're called. Also
>downwards dash doesn't count
Nice moving the goalposts here.

>I can't comment on SotN, never played that
get the fuck out of here zoomer

Hollow Knight fanboys are so fucking annoying. The game is not a 10/10 masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination.

Rabi-Ribi is better than both.

Where do i go after i killed gebel?

Attached: 1537894979271.gif (728x408, 3.37M)

Hollow Knight
> Shit pacing
> Poor level design

Bloodstained
> Properly paced
> Actually fun to play

>not my fault you can't remember your own playthrough even though it was such a negatively emotional experience for you.
Why are you projecting user?

A mediocre experience didnt affect me at all, I can play the games I like just fine. You seem be be the one thats posting with emotion judging from the first response to my initial post.

Both are boring but at least hollow night has nice graphics

I don't care for hunting Vampires, nor do I care for Castlevania, so go fuck yourself.

La Mulana

>0$ budget
>Released on the same day as the trailer/announcement
>1 guy and his fratbuddies as devs
>Free
>100 times better than hollow shit and 99 times better than bloodshit in its original form

Damn...

Attached: 0.png (256x192, 6K)

What's with the resurge of falseflags using HK to shitpost?

>Difficult and impossible to parse moments

Not based and shit

That almost never happens really. Levers usually lead to optional or side areas.

I'm projecting my positive experience onto you by claiming you had a negative experience? Yeah, alright, sure buddy.
Maybe I got the anons confused, but I thought you claimed to have been utterly disappointed and bored before. If I were to play an utterly disappointing and boring experience, I'd surely remember that.
Also you might have me confused with someone else too, because my first response to you was my only response to you so far.

Good Metroids:
Super
Zero Mission
Fusion
Am2r

Good Castlevanias:
SOTN
Aria
Dawn

>y-y-you can't like Hollow Knight, consider it one of the best of the genre and must love all bad games equally!

Based casual-repellant

La Mulana is for autists waving their mutilated genitals because they spent hours figuring out shitty puzzles

Because HK is one of the most popular modern metroid-likes released these past few years. Fucking everyone on Yea Forums has heard of it, whether they liked it or not, so it's always the easiest to bait people with.

Like. If I made a thread where I said Bloodstained was garbage and compared it to say... Environmental Station Alpha fucking no one would bother replying to it. Now if I mentioned HK that's going to make people froth at the mouth.

Castlevania 1, 3, 4, bloodlines, rondo and revenge says hi

>Zero Mission
>Fusion
>Good

Zoom zoom

I legit can't stand Maluna

Fusion is the best 2d metroid

I'm 30 and Fusion is my favourite Metroid

>implying people who like Fusion are Zoomers
The fucking game released 17 years ago, it's almost two decades old. No zoomer played that you shit.

Why won't Nintendo release a switch collection of the Prime games? I want to play 3 without motion controls

wow this hollew night sounds cool, how many weapons does it have? 100? 200?

>Fusion better than Super

Like I said. Zoom zoom. In the brain or in the body.

I never implied Fusion was better than Super. Super is even older than Fusion is. No fucking Zoomer cares about any of these two games nor do they care how they compare. Get you fucking brain checked you meme spouting piece of walking garbage.

boards.fireden.net/v/thread/467267705/#467267705

You made this thread yesterday.

After not getting a bad ending, right?
There's a room a moon in the background, it was one you had to have passed through.
It's in the gardens, 2 wide long room..

The fuck are you doing in this thread then? Are you a schizo?

God, Bloodstained looks disgusting. And I'm not just talking about the bland models, sure, those look horrid enough, but the entire visual design is akin to diarrhea on a white canvas. You can find nicer HUD assets in the Unity Asset Store, and the ugly-as-sin fonts make it look amateur at best, adding a lot to the game feeling like a shitty Japanese gacha game, whose deverlopers want to cram as many "cool" features in as they can while lacking any sense of visual direction.

The elements on the screen do not blend together to form visual unity, they are instead just thrown on top of each other with no clear vision as to how they should work together.

Just look at those idle animations, and tell me they gave a fuck: youtu.be/OQ_hnbwwoFo?t=171

It would've been much better if the developers had gone with a simpler visual style that they could deliver properly instead of this cacophony of everything they could cram into the game.

Overall, I believe we can consider those 5M dollars a direct donation to Igarashi, for the success of the fundraising campaign happened for no other reason, and the final product perfectly reflects that too.

Hmm no (You)s

Metroidvania crowd has some of the most jaded and bitter people around. I think they may be second only to roguebasin.

Emulate Corruption on PC and enjoy WASD + mouse controls.

it's not a metroidvania

>The fuck are you doing in this thread then? Are you a schizo?
Well, what could I, a person that has no interest in Castlevania, want in a thread about Castlevania AND Hollow Knight? Hmm, I possibly can't think of anything a person with no interest in Castlevania could do in a thread about Castlevania AND Hollow Knight!

At least people don't generally mislabel things as metroidvania because they want the buzzword bonus.

I know this is bait, but less is unironically more, I can't stand autistic (usually japanese) games giving you shittons of stats and an unnecessary arsenal of weapons, most of which you won't even use.

filtered

Yeah well trannies don't like being told the truth

oof
the bad bait..

i am so so sorry user. i did not mean to offend.

hollow knight more like gay knight lol

Reminder that HK only got popular as it did because it felt like a shallow and bloated open world AAA game. A shallow and bloated open world AAA game that's cheap.

Prove me wrong.

kys

hollow knight is fucking trash, I'm the original screencapper of that image btw
guessing you didn't even play the game so you continue to spam these threads considering this is the third one you've made using my image

Attached: file.png (1890x905, 252K)

It must hurt to know BB is a superior game to every Metroid and Castlevania.

How to make Yea Forums hate something? Easy, just mention it enough times!
A genuinely great game like HK now has a hatebase simply because some autists made a few too many threads.

That's upgrade based progression not Metroidvania. It's like claiming Metroid isn't a Metroidvania because it doesn't have RPG elements.

>BB is a superior game to every Metroid and Castlevania.
Not when the king of 3D metroidvania exists.
Shadow motherfucking Man

Metroid isn't a Metroidvania though

A Robot Named Fight has more elements of a Metroidvania like the shop system while also being a legit Metroid game with its game mechanics

>Metroid isn't a Metroidvania
Oh you're one of those autists who claims the term Metroidvanaias only applies to games that aren't Metroid despite the fact that's not how it's widely used or accepted?

Portrait of ruin is good too

Nintendo could release a Metroid game as a Metroidvania style game, but they haven't

But you're essentially arguing Castlevania 4 is a Metroidvania lol

>Caring this much
I just played bloodstained the last 3 hours wtf have you been doing? shitposting and jacking off your dog in between posts? play video games faggot.

Attached: 1558312047836.gif (225x193, 1.64M)

Hollow Knight
>fun

Bloodstained
>shit

i can do that too

> We've played good metroidvania and we aren't going back: it's called Bloodborne.
>Bloodborne
Wow zooms i mean really? your serious? get some taste.

getting lost simulator vs a more guided experience

Except he’s conpletely right? Movement in Hollow Knight was boring as shit. Literally the most uninspired choices they could’ve had.

Also I don't know if Metroidvanias still do this

>Nearly impossible to guess solutions to advance in the game

That barrel shit in SOTN - what the hell

Enjoy your ultra casual dogshit basic bitch gameplay with shit enemies, bosses, and zero immersion.

Soulsborne is shit
Demon souls is shit
Dark souls is shit
Dark souls 2 is shit
Dark souls 3 is shit
Bloodborne is shit
Sekiro is shit

Literally shit on every Metroid, Castlevania, and Metroidvania game in terms of raw gameplay.

>Dark Souls is the Dark Souls of metroidvania
No

>ultra casual dogshit basic bitch gameplay
that's literally bloodborne, just spam r1 and circle

Bloodborne is Sickdark not Metroidvania

>Literally shit on every Metroid, Castlevania, and Metroidvania game in terms of raw gameplay.

I'm on my second playthrough of RotM
I didn't finish let alone remember much from HK.

post Miriams
Not that it isn't a great game I'm sure, it just didn't capture me like RotM has.

Attached: end sts.jpg (1920x1083, 300K)

Damn dude, a wojak? Bringing out the heavy guns this early?
Way to to concede the argument.
Anyways, all Metroidvanias are hyper casual baby shit.

Attached: 1560819445511.jpg (550x549, 39K)

You have to actually watch what your enemies are doing however, which you don't have to in Metroidvanias since the enemies are retarded dogshit with no moves.

Attached: D4Z9RSKWwAANfar.jpg (640x634, 51K)

Giving up lads? I would too. Stay casual zoomers.

Metroidvania is often used to describe metroid games along with all it''s clones.

Sorry bro but wide usage and accepted meaning trumps your autism.

Go check Wikipedia
>The term 'Metroidvania' is most often used to refer to a platforming game that features a single large, interconnected map, generally with discrete rooms or sections. Not all areas of this map are available at the start, often requiring the player to obtain an item (such as a weapon or key) or a new character ability to remove some obstacle blocking the path forward.

Attached: 1556146475645.jpg (3840x2160, 1.46M)

>Stay casual zoomers.

Attached: 1554589998150.jpg (388x471, 44K)

It's 100% true.
The enemies offer literally zero challenge and are lifeless piñatas.

Attached: 1556322661018.gif (320x240, 2.65M)

I know this is a hard concept to understand for people who has been taught that every single argument is propaganda/ trolling, but using EXAMPLES is one of the best ways to support a claim.
Bloodstained is bad because for the resources they got the made an inferior game that what they could, and HK, S AN EXAMPLE, is proff of this, as it got even MUCH less and worse resources, but it's a more rounded up and polished game.
But you'll just say I'm mad because I'm criticising something you like (which doesn't invaluate you to still enjoying it, but most people have such low egos they can't acept this), although the quality of something doesn't has nothing to do with you being able to like or dislike it.
Basically you are fine with a modern game being of the same quality of fucking 10+ years old, low budget DS games, and still have the balls to shit over people with basic standards of the media they spend their limited lifetime and money.

Zangetsu isn't playable yet

no idea.

I wish bloodstained was harder on normal difficulty, since you can't play hard at the start.
I'm rolling around pretty overpowered and just out-DPS-ing bosses before they can hurt me enough.
There's also some issues I have with hit boxes being a little funny and certain enemies just walking through hits, standing on you and damaging you, then their model is large enough that you can't move off of it quickly enough to avoid a second hit.

>since you can't play hard at the start.
What? yes you can. PC version had hard unlocked from the start anyways.

is there any word on when we are gonna be able to play as someone else? I kinda hope im not stuck with just his sword the whole time

There were posts here everywhere telling people to play it on Hard. There's a cheat to unlock it.

My option was grey'd out and I couldn't select it

>Why does Yea Forums love Hollowknight
Because it pandered to them with the devs going full retard on the “git gud lmao” meme

You mean like the ring that makes you able to walk across lava and reach an area you couldn't before?
Or the ring that allows you to move faster in water and go through the swamp easily?

OH NO NO NO NO NO

Although this whole arugment is weird, because I could bring up OOT has that lava suit and that doesn't make it or Dark Souls a Metroidvania

Fuck Bloodstained

are you retarded that's like saying rouge isn't a rogue-like

how many times have you leveled up in super metroid

Yeah but here there are people that defend it and with valid reason

the main component of a metroid vania is the level design backtracking and acquiring new abilities to reach new areas
levelling systems are castlevanias thing but the term was not originally based on that it was because SoTN had similar level design structure to super metroid. anyway I think metroidvania is a bit of a stupid name for the genre as most games in it tend to lean heavily on either one of the games unique styles whilst disregarding the other so really there should be a name that encompasses both game 'sub-types' without using either game names
