Worst area is and always will be the Gerudo Highlands.

i actually really like that area, though one thing i don't get is the first playthough it thunderstormed and never let up the entire time trying to go through to Zora's Domain but on subsequent playthroughs it was intermittent.
did they patch it to be easier? i thought it was quite clever to constantly be aware of lightning strikes and use them to your advantage.

Dunno about patches, but on my playthroughs it rained and occasionally thundered all the time on the path to the Domain, until the Beast is taken down. It's clearly an intended effec.

Literally empty besides maybe a dozen shrines

Boring Black rock and lava everywhere. Also forced to wear the worst armor set in the game.

Rito Village/ Great cliffs/ gerudo town/ Tumlea heights/ akalla region/ central Hyrule/ Hyrule castle/ lost woods.

The entire fucking south east of the map
Nothing but sheer cliffs and night constant rain and thunderstorms, which a balls ton of random rivers with chests hidden in them to stime progress.
