If you upgraded your PC since 2005 then you can't enjoy gaming because windows XP can run games better than any other machine
Most games aren't compatible with Windows 8 or even 7 or Vista so you need XP

No.....I DO need to upgrade sometime tho. Plus other reasons. Kinda worried about it

is cutting the wires the best way to unplug that light case?

This. I still use XP.

>windows
when Linux can run everything windows XP can, but better

Attached: imageproxy.php.jpg (791x584, 86K)

Gotta cut the wires to add another loose light bulb next to the caps. Safety first.

Based, I can't even play my games on a new computer because they don't have disc drives anymore
I'm not a steam cuck all my games are on disc

Yeah. My GPU failed for no fucking reason 2 years in. Since then I just bought a cheapass one and never really play any 3D games anymore so I guess I don't care.

Attached: IT.jpg (450x320, 71K)

those aren't wire cutters, he's just unplugging the cable since it got stuck

No, because of bitcoin it was cheaper to buy premade for my virtual pinball cabinet.

I did build one tonight actually

I’m scared to because it’s pricy and the fragility of electronics scares me. I’d rather just get a cheap laptop and play non-intensive Steam games and emulate old shit.

Attached: IT work.jpg (450x320, 54K)

he's gutting the case and will wirenut everything back together outside for easier access to clean

clearly

Yea Forums, what is going on with stock photo companies? Have we entered another dimension?

Attached: 463.png (1300x866, 1007K)

Just get something with a good warranty. Most brands offer a 3+ year warranty. I bought a miners 1080ti for 300 bucks which died after a week. I got it replaced for free thanks to the warranty, and have had no issues ever since. Also some motherboards come with CPUs already installed in them so the hardest part is done.

Yeah I built one in 2013. I'm gonna upgrade next year for Cyberpunk and VR.

Yes, best decision I ever made. I feel bad for people still playing video games on consoles.

Yeah.

Recently got a 1660Ti and AMD 2600

People unironically purchase these images. They follow trends, they make ridiculous images people will spread around, and then some retarded marketing firm thinks these images are relevant outside of meme value and buy licenses. stock images/footage are great that way.

as for the OP, no, I bought a prebuilt off some kid off craigslist. Gave me a monitor a keyboard, mouse (both were shit), and the tower for $500. It's an asus thing with a 1070 and an i7 in it. It's not going to be 4k 144fps anything any time soon but it plays the games I enjoy just fine. He also though the disc drive was broken but there was just something keeping it stuck shut, took like 2 minutes to pry it open and clean it.

I mean, that just sounds like you're a cuck, still.

it's weird, I both dread and enjoy working on my computer
I upgraded an SSD yesterday and spent like 2 hours trying to recover the boot status because I fucked up somewhere, but it was really satisfying after I got everything working again

>all this gore

Attached: Neato.jpg (209x241, 17K)

>finally have money
>want to get a PC
>have no idea how to build one
If I go buy the parts how the fuck will I know what I'm doing? How do I know all the parts will work properly? Is this a good build?

pcpartpicker.com/list/V8qqTB

Attached: 1559357692098.png (300x248, 81K)

I think I have some kind of brain damage because I refuse to upgrade unless I'm getting all of the best shit at once, which is always too prohibitively expensive for me to actually buy any of it.

Attached: 1558721674420.jpg (500x332, 59K)

Google is your friend, my brother never built a pc and he just learned everything he needs online, I was surprised when I saw how everything fit together nicely.

That lightbulb isn't even screwed in

just rational and poor

>pcpartpicker.com/list/V8qqTB
hey braindead faggot, zen2 comes out in 2 weeks

Also what's with the cheapo SSD and paying for windows

Attached: nothanks.jpg (640x480, 138K)

If you don't build your own PC you're either stupid or underage.

Attached: 1502082405836.png (853x480, 491K)

Neither is yours

>buying windows 10 for full price
I hope you don't actually do that
Also do you need that high end of a motherboard? Are you gonna overclock? cause if not you can get a cheaper motherboard and use some of that money to get a bigger and better SSD. Also Zen2 is coming out in less then a month so who knows how that's gonna change prices

Yea. Wasn't too hard, especially these days since everything is a screw in anyway. There's Youtube for anything I couldn't figure out myself.

>hey braindead faggot, zen2 comes out in 2 weeks
I don't know what that is and I don't know what I'm doing, what's wrong with the SSD?
How should I get the OS then? And I probably won't overclock so I should get a shittier motherboard then? I take it Zen2 is a new processor?

>last update to my specs I did was in 2016

Should I?

Attached: 1553301459500.png (470x454, 11K)

I can't even check oil. I consistently fail at the simplest tasks. If building a pc was difficult, maybe I could do it.

>How should I get the OS then?
Reddit. OEMs and business tend to buy hundreds of keys from microsoft so they get a big fat discount (75% in some cases), and since they can't return them they sell them.

Zen 2 is the latest AMD chips, they shit on Intel and previous AMD chips.
Buying Windows 10 is retarded.
You can get the LTSC edition for free online and never worry about the shitty updates people always complain about.
If you really NEED a legit copy you can get W10 pro keys for way cheaper than that anyway, anything over $50 for W10 is absurd.

>How should I get the OS then?
Just download the .iso from Microsoft and buy a $3 key on eBay or don the old pirate's hat.

>How should I get the OS then?
literally just go on eBay and look up “windows 10 pro key”, you can get one for as cheap as $10.

unironically reddit has manufacturer IT guys selling thousands of win10 keys for pennies all the time. If you want a legitimate (well "legitimate") key that's the way to go. MS doesn't realy care though, since these companies are paying full price, even if every normalfag started pirating the OSes they'd still make assloads of money from companies just buying a new OS every time they upgrade as opposed to just upgrading the pcs themselves.

piracy is pretty perfect now with HWIDgen.
literally just activates any version of windows, no cracking or any of that shit.

or have some fucking self-respect and use literally anything but windows 10

it's not like we have a choice anymore

>Zen 2 is the latest AMD chips, they shit on Intel and previous AMD chips.
So I should wait is what you're saying? Isn't AMD a meme?

Okay, so I'll get a key from reddit or something, thanks.

Just like the other user said, it's not like there's much of a choice.

At least he wears anti-static bracelet.

>windows XP can run games better than any other machine
I wish I was this stupid so I could at least entertain people.

Attached: 1560068095721.png (516x688, 474K)

Just use the sock fan. CPUs come with fans in the box and I doubt you’ll need to overclock, so cutting on a higher grade fan should be fine.
Also do what everyone else says and go get some cheap reddit keys

AMD is now run by the same family member as NVIDIA so they've got more competent people working there. Zen and especially Zen 2 can now compete or even outperform Intel in most tasks for less money. A lot more people are streaming games so they've got some cpus that let you stream in high quality without loosing too much performance or dropping too many frames
Intel K CPUs don't come with fans anymore tho

Just come here Yea Forumsro

Attached: 1477444440855.jpg (490x490, 131K)

Unironically go to /g/ and post in the /sqt/ stupid questions thread and /pcbg/ pc building general. Been a few years since I built my machine but here are my cursory thoughts
>cpu
First i7 without hyperthreading. Google it if you care to know what that means. If I was you and already spending so much money on a pc then I would just pirate windows and put the money toward a 9900k since that's hyperthreaded and just better overall. Don't listen to AMD faggots talking about zen2. Unless it forced incel to lower their prices (which it won't), there's no reason for an entry level fag like you to care.
>cooler
Definitely don't need a $75 cooler lmao. Look for something in the $50~ range. I got my cryorig h7 for $40 but it looks like it's out of stock. Also make sure you have enough room for ram clearance, ie., the cooler's fan doesn't block you from being able to put the ram into the motherboard.
>mobo
I did the least amount of research on this when I was building but $180 just seems like way too much unless you're really know all the features and are going to use them. pcworld.com/article/3268063/intel-motherboard-z370-vs-h370-vs-b360-vs-h310-8th-gen-cpu.html
start here and look at the differences between mobos. Don't get a cheap one but don't get a $200 one unless you need it for what you're planning.
>ram
Fine, that's the standard. Just make sure you're never using one stick, it halves your bandwidth.
>ssd
Buy samsung EVO series, it's the best and has very good drive cloning software. Consider a hard drive since 2tb models are cheap and SSDs have limited life spans. youtube.com/watch?v=-XZNr7mS0iw
Don't lose your shit over it but just replace it in five~ years.
>gpu
Eh I dunno seems fine. Basically 1080 performance and price. Bravo nvidia. GPUs have somewhat plateaued, so you won't need to upgrade for a while. Consider going EVGA though, they make the best coolers.

>Isn't AMD a meme?
Only the graphics cards

>9900k
>Don't listen to AMD faggots talking about zen2
you mean those processors that match the 9900k at over $100 cheaper?

you started off nicely telling him to go to /g/ then you demonstrated with your brainlet post exactly why he should

bravo user

Nope and I never will

>psu
Good, EVGA is based. Remember to register your products on their website for the warranties. Make sure 750 is good for your build though, look up pc wattage calculators.
>buying windows
Just don't. Multiple pastebins in the /sqt/ to help you pirate and activate win7 and 10. The only thing to keep in mind with 10 is that it can't be cracked completely. The activator basically installs something that activates windows every 3 months or so when the trial runs out or something. Not sure how it works but I've never had a problem with it.
If you're set on using windows 10, use a toolkit or a program like MSMG to debloat it and get rid of as much of the telemetry as possible. I did a fresh install of win10 and opened up the task manager first thing to see how much memory was being used by windows. 25% of my 16gb. Managed to get it down to 8% with MSMG.
Cool source
Cool rebuttal

I'll check /g/ out, thanks guys.
I don't feel comfortable pirating the OS, of all things, is windows 7 still possible to grab?

If you're not going to overclock then there's no point in getting the k version. The reason Ks dont come with the stock fan is because they're usually not powerful enough to cool the cpu.

If not overclocking, just get the non k version. It's cheaper and comes with the stock fan, saving a good chunk of money

Nigger just read the pastebins in the /sqt/ to learn about and verify the checksums of the windows ISOs. Pirating windows is safe as long as you're not retarded.

>I don't feel comfortable pirating the OS
then you're an idiot.
You get the OS direct from Microsoft and install it.
Then activate with HWIDgen, it's not cracking the OS it simply activates the hardware configuration the same as if you entered in a legitimate licence.

if you don't wanna pirate just download windows 10 from microsoft's website using the media creationtool and buy a key from reddit.

>as you're not retarded
So then it sounds like I shouldn't pirate it since I'm a retard.
>You get the OS direct from Microsoft and install it.
It's that easy? Microsoft gives me a download for it for fucking free? I feel like a top goy using it then.

You can use 7 but you'll have to do some extra bullshit to slipstream drivers into your cpu since intel is jewish.

The fact that you're taking the initiative to build your own PC and actively seeking advice and feedback proves you're not a retard. You can do it, it's not rocket science. It's lego for adults.

It's an OS, they distribute the .ISO for free so anyone can just make a USB and install it first and activate after they have a functional computer.
Understand?

they do, you need a 4 gig flash drive and that's it. just so you know if you do plan on buying a key make sure you download the version you want to buy, as in don't download the home version and buy a pro key.

>over 1 hour in and no one has posted that MSI webm
you guys disappoint

I follow the CRIS method
Can
I
Run
Shit ?
if the answer is yes you don't need to upgrade

yeah I like it

Attached: speccy.png (652x483, 37K)

I'm actually about to. Just ordered the last components. Here's my main BOM:
Fractal Design Node 202
ASRock Z390M-ITX/ac
2x16GB Timetek DDR4-3200 CL16
Intel Core i7-8700K
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070
Motherboard was chosen for its relatively smaller VRM heatsink. I don't think the Phantom Gaming would fit my cooler. Plus I can just upgrade the wireless module on the Z390M anyway if needed and it has an extra ethernet port, which is cool.
Timetek is a relatively unknown brand of memory, but they seem to be the only one selling memory specced for higher clocks without heatspreaders (as a cost saving measure, but I actually need this to fit my cooler). Of course I could have just bought 2666 from Crucial or something (since it's all 2666 chips anyway) but it's nice to have a little extra confidence.
Cooling the i7 with a ThermalRight AXP-100 Full Copper (ordered from Amazon Japan). Went with the previous i7 because hyperthreading is more useful to me than slightly higher frequencies and two extra cores (without cache) that jack up the TDP a bunch. I was almost going to just spring for an i9 but that retarded plastic box tho (plus I don't think the ASRock can take the i9 to its full potential).
GPU is a blower style for stable clocks, I narrowed it down to EVGA or PNY but neither has reviews unfortunately. Ultimately picked PNY because it uses just the 6-pin connector and because it looks nice with the reference shroud and without any LEDs. Even the box is tasteful, reminds me of the TITAN's box. I might have picked the EVGA, if only they spent more marketing on describing the temperatures or noise levels or cooler design than the LEDs (just basic stuff like does it have heat pipes or a vapor chamber).
Everything will be powered by a Corsair SX600 Platinum. I have Noctua NF A12x15s in the GPU compartment, and I'll be trying out a RAIJINTEK Aeolus Alpha on the AXP-100. Last but not least, I purchased a Desco ESD mat and wrist strap for safe handling.

Dude come on. Windows 10 Pro is $180. A new version comes out maybe once every three years. Many people even skip a version before upgrading. That's like what, eight cents a day? For something you will be using every day, that you need to run your games? How broke are you exactly that you can afford a gaming PC but eight cents a day is too much?

Don't reply to me with such an asinine post ever again.

Cheapfag

>Node 202
I actually had that before I "upsized" to an Ncase. How are your thermals? I had an 8600k which ran at 80°c when playing games, even overclocking it from 4.3 to 4.5ghz caused it to thermal throttle. I was using a noctua NH-L9i tho. I wanted to get a better cooler, but there were so many conflicting reviews for that case I just ended up a used Ncase.

have a 6700k and a 960gtx from 2015, should i just upgrade the 960 to a 2060 and call it a day? seems to be around the same as the 1080

Sure

Do you feel the need to upgrade?

just need 100% consistent 144fps in at least medium settings and the 960 has never been able to do it for me

I did all the shopping but I paid my brother to put it together because he's built like 20 machines to my one, and ai would rather take tge security of the job being done right, also he needed the money.

I would err on the side of caution and get the 2070 for the 2gb more VRAM, but you'll probably be fine either way. I have a 1080 and do that in most games.

Yeah but I need to upgrade my CPU. My old FX 8350 just isn't cutting it anymore. Pretty sure my HDD is dying too so looking to get a 1TB SSD.

Remember to thoroughly wash your system.

Attached: 1354602822451.jpg (800x600, 194K)

>How are your thermals?
I don't know, haven't received the last parts yet. However after quite a bit of research I determined the AXP-100 is in the top tier of coolers that would fit. Although I'm not sure whether the stock fan actually fits, because it's 62mm with the screws. I believe using the the adapter with a larger fan can actually shave off some height because you can screw it in from the bottom, removing the screw heads from the height equation.
I found a Japanese review where they tested the AXP-100 with a 9900K (open bench) and were able to reach 4.1 GHz on all cores and 77C and 35 dB from the fan in real world testing. From Anandtech I know the 9900K hits 3.6 GHz on all cores when restricted to 95W. So the AXP-100 is definitely good for a few watts more than that. I figure by scaling back to six cores with the 8700K I should have pretty decent temps.

I see, well after switching to the nacse for my CPU I went with a nh-u9s with 2 fans and a NF-F12. With stock clocks it never went above 60, but once you start overclock those temps rise fast. At an all core overclock of 4.5ghz I was in the low 70s, at 4.7 I was in the mid 80s, and at 4.9 I was thermal throttling. I though it was because I didn't correctly apply my thermal paste, but even after using those thermal grizzly minus 8 pads I was still getting similar temps. Maybe I was unlucky and got a shit thermal paste in my 8600k, but delidding is too hardcore for me.

oh yeah and when I was rocking my 202 I used two NF-F12s in place of my GPU cooler. At first I had the stock fan on, but taking it off dropped it by two degrees. It was an EVGA 1080ti SC. It got toasty at ~75c, but it ran at it's full boost clock of 1939mhz

Yeah, NCASE is much better than the 202, but the 202 is cheap. I don't expect to overclock too much since I'm only going to be playing stuff at 1080p60. I might even end up underclocking the 2070 depending on how loud it is.
This is my first build in over ten years, so hopefully it'll be a good enough base to start adapting into a better case with better cooling if I get bitten by the VR bug later and need some upgrades.

There are cheaper alternatives now that use a similar layout like the Cougar QBX which is just 50 bucks. When I built my PC that case didn't exist, and I couldn't justify $200 on a new ncase m1 so I bought a used one for almost half the price and I'm happy with it. If I was building it today I would've bought a QBX instead of a 202 or an M1

So, is it time to upgrade to one Ti card, lads? Should I wait for one more cycle?

>Spending more than 700 dollars on a pc

Interesting, I'll keep that in mind for later since I already have the 202. What actually set my build into motion was seeing photos of a prebuilt in the 202. This after an hour or two of going through page after page of real flashy ATX cases designed for zoomers. I figured they must have come up with a decent build for the 202, so I wrote down a list of every component they used and tweaked things from there (also cross-referencing with reviews).

Attached: Steiger_Dynamics_HTPC_living_room_pc_IKON_bottom_right_front.jpg (1200x675, 305K)

A single 1080 is faster than both those 970s and those can be found used for cheap. The RTX cards are underwhelming and it doesn't look like AMD is gonna compete all that well in the high end. If you want real time raytracing get a 2070.

Yeah, I might look for a 1080Ti. I'd probably have to go used, but I guess if I got a good deal it would be worth a shot. I don't give a shit about raytracing yet. I just want framerate.

That's also why I went with the 202, I liked how small and sleek it looked compared to those pigfat cases, and it wasn't all that expensive. I just wish all these options were available for me when I built it.

No one:

Not a single soul on Earth:

Op: bUiLt tHaT pC yET???

4, actually. 16 total because people are retarded

What's a good 1tb SSD that I can get for less than $150? is such a thing even possible? I just want it for gaming, my OS, and shit like that.

Attached: hurr durr.png (500x581, 140K)

Get your Shwitter meme format outta here, kiddo.

this picture just gets funnier the longer you look at it.
>yeah bro let me just open up my power supply, sit a lightbulb in it, and then try to plug the motherboard 24 pin into the rear IO while I fuck the cables up with a pair of plyers

I bought one for 130 on black friday on the build I'm running now. I don't think you are going to find one easily, but it might be possible on a sale.

upgraded from i5 2500k gtx770 to i5 9600k rx580. went from 1080p 30-40 fps to 1080p 60 fps.

Attached: 1542825495492.jpg (680x660, 41K)

I guess I can go up to $200, but i'm not looking to break my bank over it either. I want to built my new PC once zen2 releases and I really want a decent SSD but there are so fucking any I don't know where to start.

I am having this wierd problem. I bought an extra m2 ssd for gaming because I’ve never experienced the loading time. Everything is good for a few days until suddenly the BIOS doesn’t detect it. It worked again after a hard reset but now the detection rate is like 50/50. After some investigation I found out that it could be because the BIOS was booting into Windows too quick it ignored the SSD altogether. Anyone has this problem?

Aliexpress has a bunch. Some of them look like micron SSDs, but I don't know if they're clones or rebrands. Ask chink shit general on /g/

my last upgrade was a 1060 6gb, going ultra in games doesn't improve my experience.

Yeah 10 years ago, the GPU finally bit the shit and I think I don't really care. New games are trash.

What slot are you using? If your motherboard has multiple slots it might try too boot from #1, even though your SSD is in slot 2. Also if you have multiple drives with windows installed on them configure your SSDs boot manager so that it's priority is #1

No, but im saving up.
This november BAYBE
Gonna get a 3 Terabyte Hard Drive
500 GB SSD
2 AMD Ryzens
4 SLI'd 1080ti's (2 seperatly SLI'D)
32 gigs of DDR4 ram
Why? Cause I got the money and im a fucking god, thats why.

>I got the money
>no RTX
Something isn't right here

I haven't built one because theres no "for dummies" video's out there, I want a video to go in depth talking about how I build this shit, and every video is done by seasoned people who have years of pc building experience.
Theres so much shit that you can do wrong that it frightens me
>Purchasing the wrong CPU and it's incompatiable with your motherboard
>Purchasing the wrong motherboard and it's too big, too small, or doesn't fit
>Purchasing the wrong Ram and it doesnt work
>Putting the Ram in the wrong slots and not getting enough efficiency out of them
>Fucking up the Motherboard standoffs and having the motherboard fry itself because it touched the metal case
>Purchasing the wrong cpu cooler thats incompatible with my motherboard
>Not knowing how to hook up a power supply to my motherboard
>Fucking up plugging shit into my motherboard and having loose wires everywhere
>Touching my motherboard the wrong way and static shocking it and frying it

At this point, i'd rather just buy a prebuilt or pay someone to put together my PC, i'm too afraid to fuck anything up.

Rtx is a shitty meme.

I built a windows XP gaming pc recently. I need to get a bunch of trashy stickers to put all over it.

grow a brain and never post your dumb shit again

Yup, got myself a Ryzen 7 2700X and an RX 580 late last year, but then I went and fucking bent the cpu pins so even though I eventually got it to post I can only use my A RAM slots and not the B ones because the pins don't seat all the way in at least one spot. So far the performance is nice though outside of that. The 580 is handling two screens fine for my usage, and the CPU obviously is great for the productivity stuff I do. Still bummed I fucked that up though. Shoulda got a mobo where the heatsink that screws in instead of those finicky clips.

What's he doing with that pliers?

Literally make a build on PC Part Picker, set it to get every price from Amazon, order the parts, then assemble. The only part you actually risk fucking up in a way that'll make things go bad is mounting the CPU.

I had to stock up on cases with at least 3 5.25 bays because most new ones don't even have 1.
Just pirate, don't use Steam. Even with the extra cost of a PC, it quickly pays for itself thanks to piracy.
>Steam games
Do you call an apple you get from walmart a "walmart apple"?

>pirate
Sorry, bro. I want to support the devs.

lmao

>He doesn't have a lightbulb in his PSU

What the fuck is the difference between a full tower and a mid tower? Is it worth getting a Full if i'm not sure of the space or is it a meme?

My computer was an old piece of shit and right when I was going to build one my parents bought me a Dell prebuilt.
It's actually not terrible, just needed a video card which I paid for and I was good to go. Sure it's not going to run modern games at max settings with 4k resolution but it can play modern games at the very least which is what I need it to do. Had it for about 3 years now.

>gaming PC
No, but I have a necromantic corpse of a computer pieced together that can somehow run most things at like, 60fps if I don't push it over 1080p.

Full towers are huge. Most PCs you see are mid towers

kinguin.net/category/22175/windows-10-home-oem-key/

My friend asked me if he should buy a mac laptop or an alienware computer for gaming. What do I do

Pc Part Picker tells me about incompatibilities right?
One guide I watched used the same motherboard but different CPU and said that, "Intels aren't compatible with this motherboard at the time of filming this", but PC part picker doesnt tell me theres anything wrong.

I unironically got a cracked win 8 on old pc that got a update for 10 then put 10 through windows websites virtual drive maker bullshit on a usb stick and googled a win 10 key and the first key i found worked kek

Why the FUCK are the price range of the 10 series so fucked?
>1050 is like 150 dollars
>1060 is 200
>1070 is 400
>1080 IS 850 FUCKING DOLLARS

Are bitcoin miners the cause of this? Why is the 1080 literally twice the price of its predecessor card?

is that shroud?

Miners and VR. CEOs saw that people were willing to put down some serious dosh.

I have 2 M2 slots. One of them disable some SATA slots so I use the other one. Windows is installed in another SSD so it's not really about booting priority. It's just that when I boot up the PC the BIOS may just not detect the M2 SSD and go straight to Windows (Again, have to do hard reset to try again and also Windows is fucking retarded and won't even allow you to shut down normally because one of the drives is disconnected, you'd just get stuck at the Shutting Down screen). But if it does detect, then everything runs perfectly smooth without any problem whatsoever. So I don't think it's neither cable or PSU problem. Thinking of updating BIOS but I'm kind of a pussy when it comes to these things.

I bought a physical copy of Windows 7 to support physical copies. I'm forced to pirate all my games because fuck paying for digital

How big should I buy my first SSD, Yea Forums? I don't play AAA games, and may only play some MMOs, or emulator games (android, psp, etc).
Is 120gb enough?

Same here bro. Couldn't ask for more than 1080p 60 fps on games again. Fuck consoles

I'm going away to college and want to build a smaller scale PC (nothing much bigger than, like, a PS4). It doesn't need to be anything crazy, the most graphically intensive game i play is probably rainbow 6 siege. I don't know how to even get started, anyone have advice?

Attached: 3a9.jpg (311x317, 9K)

Shroud, that you buddy?

I did and I hated the experience. It was stressful and not worth the effort because I'm constantly paranoid of what might go wrong with it at any given time.

Components these days are Idiot proof, unless you break a connector you're usually fine.

Bruh that shit is near impossible anyways lol
1440p master race

Neither, build one yourself. Alienware is overpriced garbage and macs are a meme.

logical increments
if you're really dying for a super tiny PC then get a mini ITX case/motherboard, just make sure your GPU isn't too big to fit in the case

I did it a few months back and honestly the only stressful bit about it was the CPU cooler, and that's mostly because they way the mounts were to the motherboard I needed some help. After I got it on and everything made it was EZPZ.

haha can you imagine if you'd actually bought a quad core CPU in the last couple of years
that would be really embarrassing now wouldn't it

4 core/8 thread CPU’s are still fine, it’s the quad cores with only 4 threads that are really starting to show their age.

i7 7700K still destroys ayymd garbage and will destroy poozen 2 garbage as well

graphics cards are too expensive nowadays

Yeah I don't give a shit about your bullshit Legos analogy you uppity faggot. These are expensive legos and it's for all intents and purposes just a giant headache idiots like you put yourselves through because this is your version of the hot rod and you have nothing else going on.

>pliers
That's no pliers, boy.

My xeon replacement for my i5 arrives today. The best part is I can sell my i5 for the same price as the xeon because of how fucked up the used processor market is. Going from am i5 4690k to a xeon 1245 v3. Slightly less clock speed but 100% more threads. Can't wait to play games with discord running in the back without fucking stutter now.

>buying a workstation part for gaming

>xeon
>"""workstation"""

Xeons are literally i7s without the onboard graphics for half the price. Intel were massive Jews with them. That xeon has literally the same performance as an i7 4770 but for way cheaper just because it doesn't have i7 in the name and most people don't know xeons exist, have identical performance and are way cheaper.

Does it works with windows 7 and older ? I don't remember the name of the unlocker I used to use so I might as well try this.

Yes, in 2012. With the occasional upgrade, I couldn't be more satisfied with it.
Also, thanks to that user on Omegle who both opened my eyes to Yea Forums as an other board to browse than just Yea Forums, and advised me to put Tribes on my list of games to check once I had my computer put together. Wherever you might be, know that I built my computer, enjoyed Tribes greatly, and left Yea Forums in favor of this then-superior board. 2012-Yea Forums was a lot more comfy. I hope you play a lot of vidya in Valhalla.

I didn't use an analogy retard, unless you are actually trying to destroy these things you are usually fine with a little trial and error so long as you are folowing some proper safter procedures. Parts aren't nearly as fragile and I can't fathom a reason why you'd fuck a build up unless it was a DOA component.

>OS takes up like 50 gigs
Win10 takes that much space? I remember win7 was only about 20 gigs or so.

is there a single server grade piece of hardware that i can use for gaymen?
like im not looking to be a fag with "4k gaming", but my workload is best suited for threadripper but i fucked up and went ryzen.
im wanting to get an actual server board, ram, cpu, and case, with a shitload of storage and im currently looking at a supermicro case for this right now

i have been awake for 5 minutes, i know what im asking is retarded

AMD is destroying Intel in the desktop market right now. Cheaper, better single threaded performance, more cores. The new AMD motherboards will support new cool technology like PCI 4.0. Intel won't have another possible response to their ass beating for 18 months. Not to mention the new consoles coming out will also be running on the new AMD platform.

i5-7200U vs i7-8550U with a difference of 100$
i dont do any heavy duty shit on my computers which one should i get

The problem with server hardware is that most of the time its clocked way too low for acceptable gaming. In the case of these old 4c8t xeons they share identical clocks (or within 0.1ghz) as their i7 counterparts so gaming won't be an issue on them if gaming isn't an issue on the i7 already. For example you can buy 8 core 16 thread xeons from 3rd gen Intel for like 50 bucks now but they're clocked at like 2.8ghz which is way too slow for gaming and the benefits you'd get from the 8 cores is negated by the shitty low clocks.
With that being said through I think threadripper has clocks above 3.5ghz and if that's the case it won't be much different than playing on your 1600 because that's also a 3.5 ghz part iirc.

anything that helps me run unoptimized piles of shit with debugging symbols or high computation is helpful. that was my idea behind a server cpu since its normally geared towards this rather than raw performance

They aren't the same, xeons use a mesh interconnect instead of a ring. Guess which one is worse for gaming.

>building one
lmao u whities are so technologically limited. I'd rather invent one

Is GDDR6 an overpriced meme?

>Purchasing the wrong CPU and it's incompatiable with your motherboard
Make sure the CPU and MoBo have the same socket, and they should be compatible. In Intel CPUs, the socket is some 4-digit number like 1155. I can't remember the current gen's socket number, but it's easy to find in the specs. It's a matter of opening two specs pages and seeing the same number in both.
>Purchasing the wrong motherboard and it's too big, too small, or doesn't fit
There is no too small. Case sized and MoBo sizes are pretty standardized, so when you look at a case you can see what MoBo sizes can fit inside. Just check the MoBo's size in the specs. There are some midi/mini/full ATX terminology to help matching the standard. If you're still not sure, look at the measurements provided by the case's maker and the dimensions of the MoBo and see that one fits in the other. Not particularly hard.
>Purchasing the wrong Ram and it doesnt work
RAM type is also standardized. Look at the MoBo, it'll say what version of DDR it supports. Nowadays DDR4 is in popular use. Literally the first filter you put when searching for RAM is the version of DDR you need.
>Putting the Ram in the wrong slots and not getting enough efficiency out of them
Are you familiar with manuals? MoBo manuals are more often than not as informative as a "how to build computer" tutorial on YouTube. The manual shows the layout of the MoBo with its different slots and features listed and explained. There's a section in the manual simply telling you how to assemble the parts, including CPU, RAM, graphics card and whatnot. In the section of RAM, it'll tell you exactly which slots to use for any multi-stick RAM configuration you wish to have which is supported. The slots themselves are color-coded and asymmetrical, so you can't even put the RAM stick the wrong way.

Based

>The reason Ks dont come with the stock fan is because they're usually not powerful enough to cool the cpu.
Yeah, because Intel has switched to worse stock coolers than they were using 10 years ago.
youtube.com/watch?v=hUKQcEak0hg

If you want to run unoptimized games then clockspeed is always king assuming you have a decent amount of cores. An i9 9900k would completely obliterate a threadripper 2950x despite having half the cores and literally a quarter of the threads just because it can clock really high and has a sufficient amount of cores where there won't be any bottlenecking.

Most brainlet post in this thread.

Not even true.
Intel breaks compatibility even if it's the same socket.
LGA 1151 gen 1 supports Skylake and Kaby Lake and LGA 1151 gen 2 supports Coffee Lake.

So it's not a 4 digit number, it's often labeled as a 5 digit number i.e 1151-2.

On AMD's side it's just "AM4" for every Ryzen desktop CPU.

Do games benefit from having an i7 yet? Or is it still safe to stick to i5?

DDR4 RAM still expensive as fuck?

>Fucking up the Motherboard standoffs and having the motherboard fry itself because it touched the metal case
I'm not familiar with this issue being a thing. When I built my first computer using a YouTube guide I'll try to link in the end, I just screwed the MoBo in place, no issues had. The holes match some of the protrusions in the case, and with the given screws I could easily secure it in place.
>Purchasing the wrong cpu cooler thats incompatible with my motherboard
For your first computer, one would rationally recommend you don't go overboard with overclocking and shit. A stock cooler should be sufficient for most of your needs. If you're focused on having a special cooler, just compare measurements. Specs sheet here, specs sheet there, and you can calculate the available space and see if it fits.
>Not knowing how to hook up a power supply to my motherboard
Again, manuals do wonders. I think the power supply lists all the shit you need to hook up, and it lists the different cables available. The MoBo's own manual probably lists the connections required, telling you where they go. Power connectors are also asymmetric, idiot-proof, so you can't put them in the wrong way. Other than the fact most of the cables that serve different purposes having different connectors, there's usually a label either on the connector or on the cable itself denoting where it should go. A cable labeled as "CPU" should go to the socket near the CPU, also labeled as "CPU 12V" or something similar.

Alright. Shouldn't it still be a match-the-numbers process either way in the end?

Building a computer is easy as fuck as long as you're not lazy as fuck not reading.

If you don't want it to start, sure. I bet there are people who does this too

you should close that case

>newfag has never seen anyone build a Pc

It's a shame really, probably doesn't even know where to pour in the gasoline.

There are lots of sites that cross-check the parts you choose for compatibility. I'll agree for a newfag there's lots of fine print but you should be fine as long as your motherboard's socket matches the cpu and is from the same gen of chips. Other than that, you can pretty much mix and match aside from RAM which is can either be intel or amd compatible

where the fuck is the power supply
does you PC run on magic?

Obviously not, I've been doing my builds the wrong way. I should also use a jackhammer when sealing the CPU to really get it in there.

Where is the power supply unit?

Should i wait for AMD Ryzen+Navi or go Intel+GTX?

I want to put together something that would rate either "Outstanding" or "Exceptional" on Logical Increments

This, I'm curious.

afaik X in the end of the name just means better silicone so better overclocking results but if you're using a standard cooler and don't plan to overclock just get the regular one and save money

No. If I do it I want to make a high end one. But I also don't have that much disposable income at the moment so I can't just do it on a whim. But when I do save up I end up buying something else instead

Attached: IMG_20190604_204250.jpg (752x1278, 122K)

Now you start to get it.

Ryzen is the best chip but I wouldn't hold my breath for any amd gpus, they tend to not be as great

>Fucking up plugging shit into my motherboard and having loose wires everywhere
Again, asymmetric connectors are hilariously user-friendly. You'll look at them and realize how simple and idiot-proof it is. Some cables very tightly fit, so you wiggle them a bit until the go all the way in. How do you know they went all the way in? There's usually a small latch and you can see it caught on.
Regarding the loose wires, MoBos tend to come with a few zip-ties for cable management. Some MoBos are also designed with cable pathing in mind, so you just run cables through those paths and have a nice cable management. Personally, I don't really mind that. As long as there's no cable touching a fan, it's probably fine. All unused cables are tied together in a bunch at the bottom of the case with zip-ties, near the power supply.
>Touching my motherboard the wrong way and static shocking it and frying it
Ground yourself? I don't know, people usually say you should touch large metallic objects before approaching the components. Some say you should touch the case, but I doubt it has much material to act as a faux-ground. Again, not an issue I had in my limited experience. Try to avoid building the computer in a super-dry environment while dragging your feet on a carpet?

When I was facing my first ever build I searched YouTube for "how to build computer". and the first result was a NewEgg 3-part guide. Part 1 was how to pick components, part 2 was how to put the components together, and part 3 was how to install Windows. I watched parts 1 and 2 dry, I didn't have the parts yet. Once I had the parts and wanted to start the build, I watched part 2 and followed each step, also stopping to read the manuals. It worked perfectly. I believe they made newer guides since, but here are the videos that helped me:

God speed.

Intel is a mistake.

Yes, not even a week ago. I just need to get two new monitors instead of these old things and I'm 100% done. Absolutely satisfied.

post the one where the girl is holding directly onto the metal

it depends on several factors. AMD has these technologies called XFR (extended frequency range) and PBO (precision boost overclocking) and they work best with the 'X' cpu's and people have actually found that using those technologies actually gets them better performance than buying the cheaper non-X part and overclocking it to the max. we don't know much about XFR and PBO improvements for zen 2 (ryzen 3000) yet but as we come closer to release more info will come out. wait for the launch reviews and check out guys like hardware unboxed for in depth reviews for that stuff.

some old comparisons between X and non-X:

youtube.com/watch?v=L4_4Tpa_cIQ
youtube.com/watch?v=xjNwAlT0RRw
youtube.com/watch?v=f8MDhARk0ec

oh yeah the cooler will be different between the two as well but if you're buying an aftermarket cooler that doesn't make a difference.

Fuck off cancer.

I'm actually not planning on overclocking or getting an aftermarket cooler. Sounds like I'll just save the 50 bucks and grab the 3600 to make more room for a 1TB M.2 Drive. Thanks.

Are there new nvidia cards coming? Will a 2080 still get me through at least 4 years or so if I buy one later this year?

Probably, and yes.

I 100% automata with a 780. It crashed randomly between every 15 mins - 3 hours. Shit was horrible.

I made a huge mistake trying to save money and got a psu that wasn't fully modular when I was building my new PC last year, I hate all those unused cables just taking up space. I'm gonna get a new fully modular one along with a 2060.

And even if you're still confused and have questions after reading then there are places where you can ask your questions. /g/ has a stupid questions thread, which despite the seemingly alienating name is full of nice helpful people. And there's a PC building thread
where I'm sure some would be willing to guide as well. Also, like said, there are sites that check for compatibility. pcpartpicker.com is one people often use as it's also easy to share builds and ask for feedback.

Attached: 1344113722937.jpg (259x194, 17K)

I'm hovering over the button to start ordering the parts. Not really sure why I'm hesitating.

If you don't plan on overclocking the X part is better because it automatically adjusts clocks per load to give you the best performance.

>Alright. Shouldn't it still be a match-the-numbers process either way in the end?
yeah but if you tell a first timer "just look at the 4 digit number like 1155" and they see 1151 they're not going to consider the revision.
By being more specific you were in danger of leading him astray.
