Are you retarded? The back of the fucking box and the intro cutscene explain the circumstances. You know going in that Big Boss is who Solid and Liquid are genetically cloned from. There is literally no shock that you're playing someone visually similar to Solid. It's nothing like MGS2 when you get switched over to Raiden.
They never called "Big Boss" until the end of the game, he's Naked Snake. And even in the later prequels, he still goes by Snake.

Kojima was never that involved with the English dubs of his game until MGSV. I think he lives in his own Japanese bubble and never realized how beloved Hayter was to the western fanbase.
