I always assumed the real reason Campbell and Gray Fox were never in MGSV was because they were in Portable Ops and Kojima was deliberately avoiding acknowledging anything related to that game. The whole retiring Campbell thing was just an excuse, since they already used a different voice for the younger version anyway.

Considering Kojima never got around to making a sequel to MGS4, it's not like he ever got around chance of using Campbell again.

It was fun to play. Really smooth gameplay and made me feel like an operator, all those things you can do in the sandbox environment. Im just a huge fan of stealth games, but I also liked the themes about revenge and globalization, shame there wasnt more of it and chapter 2 loses steam. Its alright if you think of it as epilogue.

Call me a faggot if you want, but I had a great time with the headphones in with the ambient "Drive-like" music, I thought the voice acting from Miller was top tier, I hated Sutherland at first then by the end I was listening to every single tape I could. It hit a lot of hard to describe sweet spots for me, like me and Kojima like the same sounds or something.

Kiefer was two thousands times better in the "Big Boss" role and I believe he recorded so many more lines than made it into the game. However, Kojima was flying high on whatever flavour of the week his current movie inspiration was so he decided that Venom would be a strong silent type at the last moment, hence why he stands around autistically silent in half the cut scenes. My dying regret is that I'll never see MG1 remade in the Fox Engine with Kiefer as "Big Boss" and Hayter as a green Solid Snake

Neither one. Hayter is in the SAG guild and he was going to make four grand an hour due to his reprisal of the Snake role. Konami figured for that kind of money they could get a better actor that would be paid scale, roughly two thousand five hundred dollars per hour. Sutherland was a good fit. Personally I've never cared for Hayter, maybe a bit for Metal Gear Solid, but that was more because everyone I knew was mocking him. Hayter has a 'voice'. He isn't a particularly good actor at all. He got much worse as the series went on. I was fine with Ohtsuka. Sutherland fit Venom Perfectly. It was the first time since the PS1 that I didn't want to play it in Japanese first, even though the option was there day one. I just don't have blind nostalgic love with Hayter.

This is probably why the jap VA for Snake didn't change.

I think it's worth noting that in a way Hayter only got famous as the western Snake by chance, the first MGS had dubs in multiple languages so there was really nothing making the english one more important than the others. It's not like a SH or RE situation where the American VAs were a specific choice of the jap devs, Metal Gear merely got normal localization until i think Kojima got more interested in the english version with MGS3 (i think) which ironically is supposed to be the first time he originally tried to replace Hayter with a famous actor
