You don't actually choose a class.
Solo, Netrunner and Techie are basically three skill trees you can develop and change at any time (think like Skill Trees in Skyrim).
You cannot join Corpos, Cops, Rockerboys etc. and only do quests for them.
Game is linear as fuck and you have predetermined story and backstory for your character.
