Beamdog is a guilty of a number of different crimes. Here are the major ones.

1. The Enhanced Editions are essentially a collection of free mods that had existed for nearly twenty years. Beamdog gathered them all up, slapped "Enhanced Edition" on it and resold it as a new product. There's very very little in the Enhanced Editions that wasn't already out there, and most of it is stuff you don't want (like obnoxious character outlines).

2. The games didn't sell so well and the originals were still far outselling them, even twenty years after their release, so Beamdog had EVERY digital distributor stop selling the originals and ONLY sell the Enhanced Edition. If you want to buy a digital copy of the originals now, they're "bundled" into the Enhanced Edition. Now these scumbags can claim sales from people just wanting to buy the originals as their own.

3. The infamous 600+ bugs on launch. The game is still riddled with bugs (as even a perfunctory glance over their forums show) but the fact that it took nearly two years for them to get a game that had been working fine for 20 years to reach playability after launch is telling of their wild incompetence.

4. This is where we get to the ones that really piss people off. Beamdog couldn't just remaster the game, they had to fuck with the content too. New dialogue for existing NPCs like Jaheira, Viconia, Safana, Kivan, et cetera was written in to make the characters more progressive and leftist friendly. Beamdog shills will argue that "adding content isn't changing content XDDD" but it is when the new content changes the core personalities of the existing characters. This is in addition to adding a slew of their own LGBT (hitherto there were none in Baldur's Gate) NPCs, all flooded with OP attributes and magic items to encourage people to play them despite their cancer.

5. Siege of motherfucking Dragonspear.

Nothing, it's unironically the absolute peak of combat systems
You really have to be a jarpig addled mongoloid wreck to even think of uttering any other opinion.

Zoomers are too dumb and for it

And slow*

Nothing. Zoomzooms hate it.

Anyone recalls how much xp you get at the tail end of BG 1? I want to hit the xp cap, but I'm at the Cloakwood Mine and barely have 30k xp for each character

Nothing IS bad WITH real time with pause user! They are ALL mere preferences! More important IS wife! Give me Jaheira wife to plow as Khalid watches! (Give me wife! Give me wife!)

Attached: Jaheira Rebond.jpg (774x1032, 201K)

Get filtered, bitch:
/^[^>].*[A-Z]{2,} ([A-Z']?[a-zI']+ )+[A-Z]{2,}( (\w+|'))*\!\)?/m
/\! [A-Z]((\w|'|\d)* )*\w*\!\)?$/
/\((.*\!) ?\1\)/
/^(>>\d{5,10}\n)*.*[A-Z]{2,}.*\!$/

160k

i'm fine with it for the most part, i love the old isometric games
for me the major issue is, that aint D&D.
D&D has always been turn based

the games can play quite differently when your using either system, PoE2 is a good example for this because it now has a fully functional Turn Based mode in addition to it's normal RTwp mode and the game and it's classes play very differently.
Ciphers for example are garbage in turn based, Monks are gods.

BG2 is the pinnacle of video games and the best RPG of all times (also Planescape Torment). Too bad video games died around 2000 and now we only get dumbed-down zoomer shit.

Exp limit for bg1 is 70k, exp limit for bg1 with expansion is 145-155k IIRC

The action feels like shit when you're pausing every few seconds to issue new commands. It might as well just be turn based instead making you constantly manually stop everything.

The exp cap is easy to reach because some late game areas like the basilisk area, the siren coast and the ankhegs give crazy high exp.

it's fun at the start and then after a while it feels like the game is playing itself and me pausing to cast something is just to give me the illusion of control
Say what you want about full turn based games but atleast with those i don't feel like i'm watching a simulation

but user, i only care about Planescape

Obviously you've never played an rtwp game if you compare it to turn based

If you go around exploring everything you get plenty, way more than the cap allows. Around 30k is perfectly fine at the point in the game.

>late game areas
>basilisk area
You're doing it wrong.

>''Why yes, I do rush basilisks how could you tell?''

How are you going to fight them before you have summon monster spells?

Romance Annah user! She HAS a great, sexy FILTHY scottish accent that is SUITED for moans! The game also HAS a great story AND enhanced edition has NO OC garbage! Plus the ability to ZOOM in AND out is great!

Attached: Annah Tiefling.jpg (500x729, 45K)

see

I agree OTHER Valerie user! The BEST part OF these games IS the wife part! (It is! It is!)

Attached: Sequel Jaheira.png (210x330, 136K)

did you beat kingmaker yet you dumb-dumb

how does that work?

Korax.

You only really need to pause/issue commands to your casters or pull a tank out of melee range when it's about to die. Most trash mobs can just be gibed in a few seconds. Compare that to shit like D:OS where you have to painstakingly wait on every trash mob to crawl out of someone's asshole or climb a latter.

I will SURPASS Old Sycamore user! I will EVENTUALLY do that! (I will! I will!)

Attached: Valerie.jpg (702x700, 123K)

You just copy and paste it to a filter

If you have to pause in teal time, you are too late to actually react
If you pause before anything has happened, you cannot really do anything in foresight anyway

What a disgusting, ugly looking whore. Stop posting her.

Do Might and Magic 3-8 count as RTwP?

No!

Just buy a scroll of protection of petrification, it's lvl1 cheap spell. Or get a potion.
Also there's that ghoul who can tank basilisk, he's immune to their shit.

Get Xzar, protection from petrification from high hedge, scribe scroll(or not), get him to cast it, drop him from the group, have Korax kill everything.

Except for PoEs, Tranny and Kingmaker are there any recent notable isometric rpgs?

Not much, but the quality varies from game to game.
Personally I loved Tyranny's implementation with its magic system.

No because they're real time/turn based

Don't play a party full of casters just because you read that they were OP on Gamefaqs. I've beaten every Infinity Engine game multiple times and I don't pause non stop, most fights I don't pause at all or pause once to cast my first spells and buffs.

i was just curious what it filters specifically, i don't speak codemonkey

Atom IS a good game IF you like Fallout user! It IS a slavic jank simulator! Galina IS a good Atom wife!

Attached: Galina.jpg (268x268, 19K)

It filters the waifufaggot

My man, have you actually played every single rpg with waifus in it?

Real time with pause when done seamlessly is the sweet spot of action and turn based in RPGs.
The most ludo of combat system blends.

Does kingmaker really stand alongside baldurs gate games? Or it's pillars v2?

Underrail is kino.

Not him, but it's a decent game. It's not as great as BG2, but by far not as shitty and tranquilizing as PoE.

I have NOT played ALL wife game BUT I collect ALL wife! You need wife! You tell me wife type I give you wife IF possible!

Attached: Witch.png (528x401, 29K)

This IS a good recommendation user! ATOM RPG HAS a lame main quest BUT has great NPCS AND some great sidequests! However Gyulchatai IS the better wife! (She is! She is!)

Attached: Gyulchatai.png (256x256, 64K)

It is, but it doesn't really have a lot of roleplaying. It's more about the combat and making builds.

Kingmaker IS a good game! It DOES have THREE wife FIVE wife WITH the Wildcards DLC user!

Attached: Pretty Valerie.jpg (719x720, 239K)

redpill me on wives(male)

but how?

Attached: images[1].jpg (259x195, 5K)

I didn't write the filter myself, but as far as I understand it it basically filters his posts based on the way he writes, like the capitalized characters etc.

It FILTERS via MATCHING regular expressions user! Just like how I match WITH Valerie! Read about Regex! (Read it! Read it!)

Attached: Full Valerie.png (639x945, 939K)

Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire IS a good game WITH bad story AND bad wife play! ALL female wife LEAVE you IN her ending! Male wife DOES stay loyal user! You should ONLY play Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire IF you choose male wife NOT female wife! I will NOT forgive Obsidian UNTIL they RETURN female wife! This IS loyal male elf wife Aloth!

Attached: Aloth.png (210x330, 42K)

Nothing. Autists just bitch about it because they're used to turn based combat. Problem is that while that works in tabletop games it doens't always work in video games. It's nice in boss battles because you can plan everything out but it's a real pain in the ass for 90% of the game. I mean, taking 10 minutes to clear out trash mobs in ToEE or D:OS because they all have to have their individual turns? Who the fuck has times for that shit? Between work, the gym, my gf, and uni I have enough time to play a few hours a week.

Consolebabies are unable to play it.

It's a crude hack over the tactical turn based system. Instead of a few interesting complex fights (like in p&p D&D) it promotes a ton of boring trash mobs all over the levels.

Basically it avoids the strongest points of two opposite systems (complex tactical combat of turn based and reaction based real time) and produces a bland mess.

Attached: 1558893352807.jpg (1920x1121, 291K)

Nothing.

Video games aren't P&P. You need to have trash mobs and large encounters in vidya and this is where turn based sucks dick.

>Between work, the gym, my gf, and uni I have enough time to play a few hours a week

Attached: chad meme.jpg (610x629, 29K)

How is it less tactical than turn based which is basically watered down since everyone moves one by one instead of at the same time?

>You need to have trash mobs and large encounters in vidya
Why?

>didn't even post enhanced edition
chill out

>wife LEAVE
why is this allowed?

Attached: 1555044061568.gif (720x846, 877K)

God, she's just so disgusting. Stop posting her before you offend my eyes more.

>10 minutes to clear out trash mobs in ToEE
You're doing it wrong. Have one enlarged Fighter with Great Cleave feat, high STR and an enchanted Glaive stand in the middle of the room and attack one enemy then he will instantly kill all others too.
Or you could just craft Fireball wands and use them.

stupid wom*n writers

Any suggestions on making Yoshimo stay after a certain point in story? There are a few mods for it I believe

Valerieanon cute posting is my FAVORITE new VEE meme (It is! It is!)

>RTwP gives player the options to pause at every round, after each and every action, or not pause at all
>Pauseautists: REEE WHY GAME GIVE ME CHOICE????

I did NOT allow it user I ONLY suffered it BUT now I am the wife master! I will NOT buy Obsidian games UNTIL they return Xoti! Larian games AND CD Projekt RED games AND Owlcat games ARE better! I Kickstart games I DO like WITH wife character! I Fig games I DO like WITH wife character!

Attached: Xoti.jpg (210x330, 59K)

Why would you?

I like the character and if there is a well written mod for it I'd like to see what happens to him afterwards

ive tried so often to get into that game but isnt it necesarry that you min max at the character editor?

that alone makes it to annoying as noob in the series

I always felt it was disheartening that even if you do not recruit Yoshimo (he goes to the Copper Coronet) he still dies after Spellhold

Because It's a video game. Imagine Baldur's Gate without any mobs. You'd be running around empty maps for 90% of the game doing fuck all.

based AND wifepilled!
I will remember Obsidian's treachery in this matter! (I will! I will!)

Threadly reminder Jaheira was still thinking about her pathetic late husband even when she was with you, she used you as rebound sex and you were fine with it. Jaheira was also old and close enough to be your aunt, making her the most predatory of all pursuable romances.

Thank YOU user! You ARE a GOOD user! I cannot post TOO much BUT I will SPREAD wife awareness AND help LONELY anons FIND wife match! There ARE at LEAST two OTHER Valerie anons too! (At least! At least!)

Attached: Thigh Valerie.png (438x572, 283K)

Everything you said applies to RTwP too, except it would still be faster because you don't have to do it one character at a time.

necessary? no. advisable? yes. it takes 2 minutes to get a decent enough roll to max out your relevant stats (str/dex/con for fighters, int/str/con for mages, str, dex, con, wis for clerics, char is dumpstat).

I was literally thinking about him this morning and about his death;
Are geases complete bullshit in the dnd universe? It feels like you can just completely enslave people with them and there's almost no way to remove them.

No, your character doesn't matter at all. The NPCs are more than strong enough. A party of Keldorn+Anomen+Imoen
can clear everything on their own.

>tfw I always dual class him and take all of his equipment before his betrayal

Attached: 1445468044588.jpg (720x438, 15K)

Yep, she acts like your mother at times.

It requires thinking

t. zoomer

RTWP tends to be slower.

Or you could just design the game without any trash mobs in mind. But that would require effort from developers.

This pasta will never not make me happy. Godspeed based Gateposter

Attached: 20065985.jpg (600x450, 49K)

>it avoids the strongest points of two opposite systems
More like it combines the strongest points

I’m fairly sure a wish or divine intervention could do it.
Probably the deck of completely fucking up your game, too

Jaheira being MOMMY wife IS the best part user! She only THINKS about Khalid to NOTICE Charname IS bigger AND longer! The Throne of Bhaal ghost DOES ask Jaheira AND Jaheira DOES choose Charname OVER Khalid IN the end! (She does! She does!)

That just makes it hotter. Besides, Half-Elves age slower than humans.

Attached: 149578521589.png (500x500, 368K)

Lmao. This fucking guy.

Yeah, bro. Baldur's Gate, one of the most beloved franchises ever, praised for the tactical nature of it's combat, didn't have any effort put into it.

DnD's a turn based combat system that works weird as fuck in real time. Enemies move during spellcasting, characters don't attack when you tell them to because they still act under round rules, kiting etc.
It was kind of bearable with the IE games because the implementation of AD&D was simplistic enough, but later games that use 3.5 or Pathfinder are a fucking chore. You get even weirder shit like using Charge attack and getting attacked during its animation and the AC debuff it brings.
It just makes you wish it was turn based for proper control over your units, unless you implement a fuckton of auto-pause triggers you might as well be playing turn based. The only good thing is it makes trash fights go faster by doing select all > left click, but a game that relies on trash fights that much is shit

You know that the argument is between TB and RtwP, the latter being the zoomer option right (and a straight marketing decision as well)? Do you retards think it's between RtwP and Skyrim or something? Fucking morons, no one is impressed you played literal baby's first RPG, no one else thinks fucking BALDUR'S GATE is some kind of holy grail of the genre that is just so deep only luminaires got it. This fucking board I swear

Viconia IS a classic TSUNDERE wife IN a WESTERN game user! Her ending IS bad IN unmodded game BUT there IS a better ending IN game mods! I do NOT use mods BUT you CAN do it user! Then she IS perfect ALMOST equal TO mommy Jaheira IN wife factor! If you do NOT want bad ending wife I CAN recommend ANOTHER if needed!

Attached: Viconia.png (210x330, 126K)

Nothing, zoomzooms and retards hate it, you can play without it.
Feels incoming:
youtube.com/watch?v=9y96Y2JE5F8

Just look at RTWP like Neverwinter Nights or even Baldurs Gate if you forget to set it to 60 FPS.
It's unbearable slow.

Yeah because it takes so much longer to instantly kill trash mobs in rtwp compared to having to wait 5 minutes for them to move in turn based

RTWP is boomer, most of the best CRPGs are RTWP. Turn based is fine as well.

well, thanks
i'll be sure to pick up coding at some point, right after i emptied my backlog

And the combat is still much faster than any turn based game. You can finish the the average mob in BG in the time it takes for all the enemies to make their appearance in ToEE or D:OS before the combat even begins.

t. falseflagging zoomer

You're not seriously implying that combat in Neverwinter Nights is faster than TOEE, are you?
I can beat TOEE faster than it takes to leave the first chapter in NWN simply because NWN is so fucking slow.

Need me an alcoholic wife

Damsel IS another TSUNDERE wife FROM Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines! Many anons do NOT like her BECAUSE she IS communist BUT she DOES love player vampire! You CAN punish her communist behavior IN bedroom! (You can! You can!)

Attached: Damsel.png (890x890, 529K)

How did you refill wands in BGs again? Sell them and buy back or something else?

>Jaheira DOES choose Charname OVER Khalid IN the end!
Wow, she does choose the demi-god's cock after it's redecorated her inventory over an immaterial one? Talk about a shining endorsement of loyalty. I think I'll take MOMMY Viconia over cranky Jaheira, thank you very much.

Attached: 1560306196852.png (640x480, 384K)

NWN is just one character, you retard. You're comparing a full party vs one guy.

Oh, God. Imagine fighting all of those undead in Kresselack's tomb in turn-based combat. I'd fucking kill myself.

He'd bite your cock off and kick your shins.

potions of power and heroism stack my nigga.

damn -19 ac what the fuck

ah that's why

Zoomers like it, that's all.

I like it.
Mostly because of better tactics. In D:OS everytime you entered combat your party gathered around IIRC and if someone was too far it was considered out of combat or something like that, I don't remember well. The thing is, you couldn't position your allies properly.
In BG you could move your assassin in stealth to an advanced position to ambush the mages right when the enemy melees charged at your party and you could even try to use terrain to protect your casters. I don't think you can do that with TB and you have too many things to micromanage to make it real time like commandos or something.

Thanks dude.
I don't think BG let you save vs touch. Maybe I'm wrong.
No dwarf would harm something so magnificent.

I will TRY your wife WHEN I play Atom user! Thank YOU user! You ARE a GOOD user!

Imagine being a tiny little bit of a man. You wake up in the morning and throw back the napkin blanket from your matchbox bed. You almost role off and fall to your death. Feel around for the ladder with your rice sized toe. There it is. You climb down. Now you see an ant. The giant brute lumbering toward you. The smell of tiny man meat intoxicating the insect. You run, or more like you hop, towards the safety of a small crack in the wall not even the ant can fit in. Take a moment to rejoice and let your eyes adjust to the darkness. You're so small you can see every individual ray of light. Hungry from your morning adventure you decide to eat. Luckily a feast of atoms and other subatomic particles lay before you. You eat barely a third of a neutron and you're stuffed. That's when you notice you've accidentally begun to fall through the very fabric of existence. You grasp out but everything is too big to hold onto. You fall into the abyss.

AC becomes meaningless this late into the game, it's the damage resistence and raw HP that matters.

>evil
Oh he's getting laid

More like Soirevok/koverios

>t. Save vs spell: 5 and 0% crushing resistence.

Why DOES Irenicus HAVE good body IF he IS Mage!

At this point he has like 50|50 chances of falling into the abyss thanks to the way subatomic particles work, though.

based schizoposter

Obesity and intelligence have an inverse correlation

AD&D saving throws are such a fucking shitshow and there was literally no reason not to play a dwarven fighter/cleric or gnome fighter/illusionist with max CON over anything else

not funny if not talking about beamdog's edition.

That is actually wrong, it's that you need some absurdly low AC for it to become relevant. IIRC with something like -27 most ToB enemies will miss you
A swashbuckler with UAI and a good armor can achieve something similar
Haer'dalis, or really any other blade, can do something similar with defensive spin + improved bard song
There are probably other cases I can't think of atm

It IS good to BE intelligent WITH swole body NOT sticc body user! It IS difficult BUT it IS good!

What ho muscle wizard!

Fuck off already, you incognito tripfag

Random French retard that tries very hard to fit in among the pessimists on RPGCodex. Normally he just quotes random people in the BG3 thread and posts random predictions like "BG3 will be an esport with microtransactions"
Everyone ignores him but he continues posting anyway

What! I do NOT have trip they ARE bad!

>reading comprehension

Enjoy your no skull trap.

>he does damage spells as mage

What!

>using a bugged spell

I bet you also use Sunfire on drow and golems

time stop wish would dab on you and on anything else

Some people need the enemies to stay still so they can actually hit it, think in some tactics o look a guide while playing. The same kind of people who cry because in starcraft or rts en general the 'fastest' player won and that's unfair for other players.

Gentleman, how do we equate turn based with social justice?

>boring trash mobs all over the levels.
Yes, because turn base games dont have those.

Keeping Yoshimo mod.

Why would you want to do that? RTWP is just as good and often better.

>Prebuff before entering a fight
i-it's ok if the monsters are standing still because I'm not fighting them yet
>right click on a random enemy so you can hit it with basic attacks
WOOOAHHHH SO COOL
>smash the fuck out of the pause button so you can clean up with a sorcerer's spell and heal your fighter who's about to die
>G-good thing I'm not playing turnbased h-haha, right? Here, let me cast this spell while the enemies are standing still... but it's ok because I paused the game haha
retard

>no one else thinks fucking BALDUR'S GATE is some kind of holy grail of the genre that is just so deep only luminaires got it
Weird they are doing BG3

>smash the fuck out of the pause button

Might as well take from the SJW hand-book with how they associate pretty much anything they don't like with alt-right and nazism

Were your vaccines not fresh or something?

My personal experience comparing RTwP Pathfinder to TB Div2Os is in Pathfinder there is a shitton of small encounters and none of them are interesting, while Div2 has a much smaller number of battles but they are almost all significant. I feel that RTwP makes it too easy for the dev to add a lot of uninteresting battles and that brings down the quality of the game by a lot.

As someone who knows literally nothing about D&D, what are the things that I must NOT do when building my character? I don't care about making a suboptimal build, that's part of the fun of going into it blind, but what are the worst mistakes?

Yo gamers if liked this game smash that mother fuckin' pause button and leave a skulltrap down for ya boi

Is it any good? Also it has ToB content right?

what are those boots?

>not disabling pause and relying on your hotkey setup for spells while also playing at 60 fps with a full party

Don't dumb stats. That's literally it.

No idea. Yes, but for what I read is not too much. Maybe it was expanded some years ago but no idea.

The worst mistakes would be taking shit spells as a sorcerer

remove yourself

Don't start with katana proficiency in BG1. They are extremely rare and expensive, if you don't know where to find them you'll suffer rather hard in the early game
Don't play extremely bad classes like mage hunter and beast master. I wouldn't play classes that require good knowledge of the game like Sorcerer either
This is not PST or Fallout, Int and Wisdom don't have any effect in dialogues, except for like one check that is not important at all. If your class doesn't use them you can have them at 3. Mind you int lower than 9 stops you from using magical items but you can use other party members for that

boots of speed from rogue rebalancing mod, the chosen of cyric encounter.

Create a pure Mage or Druid rather than starting them as a Fighter and dual-classing.

Using mods or EE during the first playthrough.
>Don't start with katana proficiency in BG1
There is no katana proficiency in BG1.

I like how spells between BG and IWD are sometimes drastically different
Shocking Grasp is useless in BG but god-tier in IWD
Sorcerer didn't exist in the original IWD, but with EE running a solo sorcerer was interesting because I didn't use the meta BG setup

It makes me happy to see that i'm not the only person who likes the pure fighter route (would kit still be considered pure?)
I dig your character

Attached: 1555548309911.jpg (250x160, 7K)

Who the hell plays vanilla BG1 nowadays instead of shit like Tutu or EEs honestly

Druid is also considerably better and actually really good in iwd too I hear but I never played it
I wonder how priest is in it

Thank you.

fuck I mean cleric don't smiteth me

That's because they are poorly implemented by Bioware and that you are able to dual-class with them.

Don’t spread your stats out.
Avoid an outright dump stat due to drains, but don’t fall for the all rounder meme since you’ll fucking suck. Keep rolling until you get at least two eighteens, and preferably two 14-16s.

The reason minmaxxers are frowned upon in tabletop is because the GM can compensate for people having more normal stat spreads, but in video games that goes out the window.

???

Yeah
everyone raves at how good kensai is for dualing but I look at berserker and they just have a ''no'' button for mages

A true-to-P&P berserker would be 'fun' to play in BG as well.

A paladin that's implemented better would be nice too

Actually, pretty much all classes could be implemented better.

r*ddit: the post

woah man I think you're asking too much for classes to be what they are

Attached: 1555402826383.png (249x249, 74K)

Any good kit mods?

classic sawyer

BG3 is coming from the devs who allowed you to kill final bosses by telepathically hurling a treasure chest containing thousands upon thousands of pounds of explosive barrels

But that was a bug and got fixed

Who are the best written companions in PoE
talking about the first game

>barrelmancy was fixed
what is this bullshit

did anyone honestly care about anyone else emotionally besides aloth and eder

Fighter/Sorcerer is fun

Durance hands down, then Eder for being a cool bro.
Aloth had that interesting condition, but his sidequest and plot feels half-assed due to how the whole thing was suddenly dropped just when it was getting good.

Kana was bro-tier

okay yeah durance was good and kana had a nice attitude

Is Kana really good? I was thinking of dropping him when I get more female companions

*blocks your plane of existence*

Attached: DEMOGOR2.png (169x266, 132K)

Chanters are great, their paralyze ability can shut down boss level enemies

>Now to find a home for my other staff...

Attached: 427964048.jpg (218x338, 20K)

I remember for one playthrough I had a whole team of nothing but chanters and practically just, walked through the game

Thinking about trying this, never played one of these before unless the SNES Lord of the Rings game counts. What version Beamdog's Enhanced or the Original with mods, and what mods should I use in whatever version is preferable?

Also what order should I play the series BG1 -> TOSC -> BG2 -> Throne of Bhaal -> IWD1 -> IWD2?

Should I pirate or buy them off GOG, they're pretty fucking cheap right now so I wouldn't mind.

Attached: Lord_of_the_Rings_SNES.png (512x422, 23K)

>haha le funneh crazy whore man

nothing, it seems to BTFO zoomers though

Do you also need someone to chew your food for you and wipe your ass?

literally nothing

>full ranger party with each of the unique animal companions
>full dwarf ranger party using gunpowder based weapons with six bears

To be fair I like the part where he's also incredibly racist and genocidal

Pirate whatever version you like except IWD:EE. That version is the laziest, most unbalanced piece of shit ever. Enhanced versions are generally enhanced in name only.

If you want to wipe my ass for me I'd be eternally grateful. It's a horror show down there most of the time. Like trying to clean a ham after dropping in mud using nothing but napkins.

underrated

get help shizo

I genuinely like his writing. Imagine being able to communicate and be guided by your goddess. As a priest, that would be certainly somewhere at the top of the best things that can happen to you.
Then be abandoned like shit after doing her every bidding.
That's gonna hurt a lot.

>that scream of rage he lets out after you help him realize he was tossed aside like an old cum sock
god damn man

Doesn't sound balanced

I beg you, balance man
show mercy

Attached: 1555563127094.jpg (542x542, 25K)

Eder, Durance, Aloth were probably my favorite. In the DLC I like the metal woman (at a loss for her name). I thought her back story was pretty interesting that she was a murderer bound into the body and was basically held hostage by the animancer guy.

speaking of balance
>spell damage is influenced by the strength stat
I mean what the fuck, my watcher wizard was the guy knocking down walls and prying balls open even though he probably had spells for that shit

>Imagine being able to communicate and be guided by your goddess
So like every cleric ever?

So how did they fuck up IWD? If I play the EEs will I still be able to import my character into normal IWD?

Zahua, if you disagree you are wrong

Attached: 98179248378910487.png (1260x952, 1.33M)

Their idea of enhanced edition is just to copy-paste everything from BG2 into IWD: kits, classes, races, spells and be done with it. And IWD 1 and 2 are separate from BG.

I dont lime real time as much as turn based because I like the puzzle aspect of fights, and I can pay closer attention to what's going on. With realtime, when I lose a fight, I don't really know where it went wrong.

A healthy mind in a healthy body

Having to do quick reactions is ablesist, also it is easier to translate turn based into text based actions for the visualy impaired.

Sod raise it to 500k

Pillars of eternity added turn based after release. Best case for BG3 is to give a choice.

For second game right? Or does the first game have it too?

Sounds like the best way to get two half hassed game mode

How does dual classing work? From the description it sounds like you just lose all your prgeess halfway through the game

Except for your HP that is true, but you gain it all after your second class is one level higher than your main class

About to start a new playthrough. I want to be cool wizard but it's just too much work. Should i be an evil fighter that doesn't afraid of anything?
Cha/Int/Wis is basically useless for conversations, right? Just cha for vendor prices?

Attached: haha.png (1523x1200, 1.59M)

>pick human
>pick class
>make sure your stat are good
>get to the level you want
>dual class
>now you can't use your first class abilities until your second one is one level higher

Cha is useful, it affects some quest rewards and dialogue. But it isn't only cha, it's a mix of charisma and reputation so if you're planning on being evil you don't have to care about it
Or you can just use a high charisma companion as a party leader, if there is any I can't remember

Ah cool. So if i'm EVIL i'll always get shit rewards? And dialogue options too?
Also pretty sure there is a paladin just north of friendly arms inn i can use as a cha slut.

It's not related to your alignment, but your reputation and charisma
Not only in rewards but some characters won't say certain things either

Sounds like evil characters are just going to have a shit time compared to good ones, and are more suitable for a second playthrough. Been a long time since i last played, i guess i'll just make a paladin or something and be a good boy.

It's really just bit less xp and quest rewards iirc. You'll be swimming in gold and xp anyway so it's not a huge deal. In 2 you can be a memester and transform into the slayer as much as you want and also pull off a really fun double double cross in the Underdark if you're evil. Both evil and good are worth doing.

It’s only really a difference in a few of the side quests

It pretty much play the same as a good playthrough except with higher price and shittier reward

Say no more

RTwP is fine I just wish they'd use a proper system for it (like in DAO) instead of D&D.

ToEE is the best D&D gameplay in vidya simply because D&D itself was designed to be turn-based. I just want a RTwP with a system actually design for it, is that so much to ask?

Attached: 1556368874324.png (2160x714, 29K)

Durance, Zahua, Eder, Aloth. Kana gets an honorable mention.

what is the best CRPG game around at the moment? Really fancy getting a comfy party going and travel

>every answer to best poe companion is all males
What went wrong Obsidibros?

Nothing.

Best waifu is the Caed Nua steward.

>So how did they fuck up IWD?
Nothing. It's just IWD with BG2 kits and classes. Complaining about the shit Beamdog pulled with BG and BG2 is fine but complaining about getting more stuff in IWD is ridiculous.

Avellone hates romances even though he wrote some of the best ones (Visas and Fall-From-Grace).

game romances are fucking retarded, anyone who likes them need to be put down, there is not a single good one.

Who hurt you, user?

Is BG:EET worth it?

The female companions weren't really all that interesting desu.

TOEE had good romances. You can even let your PCs marry.

>requires SoD
No

>it's just more stuff lmao
It completely destroys the balance and design of the original game you fucking mongoloid

Then don't use them, you colossal faggot. Nobody is forcing you to use kits, or sorcs, or dual-wielding.

Order is fine. Definitely start with BG1.
EE is pretty much BG+a bunch of other mods, including integrating updated features from BG2 into 1 to less than fantastical results. But if you want to fire and forget instead of wasting time modding, I definitely recommend the EE.
lilura1.blogspot.com/2017/08/Baldurs-Gate-2-Changes-and-Additions.html

Btw, ToSC is already integrated in BG1, it's just endgame content

Stop posting your blog cunt

Attached: 1555402597183.png (218x218, 10K)

Lilura is indeed a cunt, but I'm not fucking spelling out every single reason why EE/1 in 2's engine is bad

isn't valerieposting's sole purpose is to keep /pfkmg/ away from the boneyard

lol

>Suppose to be so beautiful it's a curse
>Looks like a man
What did she mean by this?

huge clusterfuck that only works well with very simple systems (like BG1 and 2, PS:T and IWD1)

That's why there's customizations for auto pauses.
You can set the game to auto pauses when a character gets below a health threshold, when a spell finishes casting (required for letting the most out of improved alacrity), when you've detected a real, when a hostile appears, etc.

>only works well with very simple systems
I'm playing BG now and the combat is boring as fuck, like Pillars 1 tier boring. Pathfinder is the only actually fun rtwp I've seen so far, Deadfire almost but it was too easy.

you're playing BG1?

yes

>real time with pause

it was never real time. it's still turn based but every action is on a timer. dnd rpgs are closer to stuff like the atb final fantasies than, say, diablo combat-wise

it's an archaic and clunky way of making an rpg, but hey, nostalgia is in right now and has been for a while so why not get a slice of that sloppy pie

thank god for gog, the indie scene and japan

Geas can only be cast when both parties consent.

that's auto attack central, because low level AD&D is very boring. Ranged characters are king.
BG2 is where things start to get interesting.

PoE1 is boring and no one ever denied that. Pathfinder is still a clusterfuck much because of UI and spell FX, Deadfire was shit for the same reasons. Turn based system saves it but the entire game was designed with encounters for RtWP which means you'll be fighting tons of trash so the TB mode ends up extending a playthrough by some 30 hours for no reason.

Turn-based games need Temple of Elemental Evil's concurrent turns option. Baffling how developers ignore that game when it solved so much shit about Turn-Based videogame systems.

>Pathfinder is still a clusterfuck much because of UI and spell FX, Deadfire was shit for the same reasons.
Eh? UIs are fairly straightforward for both, and spell effects are much less obtrusive in Deadfire than in Pillows 1, and they also didn't really annoy me in PfK.
>the entire game was designed with encounters for RtWP which means you'll be fighting tons of trash
Well I haven't tried turn-based Deadfire yet, but it has much less boring trash fights than Pillars 1 and BG1.

Handmaiden is better

Have you done Durlag's Tower yet? Imo that's when BG peaks

Bg2 android port when?

What does concurrent turns do in ToEE? I'm playing right now but never used it, and I'm currently afk

>No restrictions in travelling between BG1, SoD, BG2 and ToB areas, once they are discovered. All areas accessible from the same worldmap

Attached: 150456852695.jpg (1813x2111, 912K)

No I just cleared the cloakwood mines.
>give me a quest to retrieve a lost cloak
>it's at the CLOAKwood
Bravo Nolan!

Because it's not real time.

First time playing BG1. What class should i go for? Cavalier looks good but Inquisitor can use ranged weapons.

if you're going paladin route inquisitor is definitely the way to go. its one of the most powerful kits in the game, instant true sight and double level dispell magic are insanely good. just be careful not to fall.

If you want ranged weapons as a cavalier put points into axes and get throwing axes
Cavalier is a solid beginner choice for the saga.

They're both good but inquisitor destroy mage and they're usually the biggest threats.

Inquisitor Is fucking broken and OP, Cavalier is a better Paladin
Unfortunately a lot of BG2 kits are overpowered and make a lot of classes redundant

Fyi, there are throwing axes you can use which are obviously ranged but don't count as ranged weapons so technically cavalier doesn't have any disadvantages at all

Real-time with pause combines the worst of real-time with the worst of turn-based. It sacrifices the fluidity and speed of real-time encounters for tactics that aren't as deep as what's possible in turn-based games. It excels at neither.

>Inquisitor Is fucking broken and OP,
2bh all the kits should have been exclusive to party members

Do note that in 2 there is an inquisitor companion you can get, so consider that if you don't want same-class redundancy

No

That would have sucked, the amount of choices in character creation is one of the reason why I replay these games

Cavalier is basically Paladin+
Losing ranged is a bitch in early BG1, but for the vast majority of the games there are no downsides.
Inquisitor is essentially lmao fuck mages, and undead hunter is practically useless outside of BG2’s start

>download OG Baldur's Gate
>dat stone UI
>dat 800 x 600 resolution
>dat pre-BGII engine
I... I prefer this better

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 160K)

>go into the .lua file
>set path search nodes to 40000
>party members no longer act retarded
Bravo Beamniggers you didn't even set this to its maximum value you dumb fucking hacks

>Eh? UIs are fairly straightforward for both, and spell effects are much less obtrusive in Deadfire than in Pillows 1, and they also didn't really annoy me in PfK.
There's two problems in RTwP games: In pathfinder when you use an ability on an enemy, there's at least 3 lines of text that appear above each enemy's heads at the same time indicating saving throws. This happens for every enemy, which means that in an AoE ability it's a complete clusterfuck to quickly find out if it was effective or not.
The second problem is that the combat log is nearly useless. It's not separated by rounds, there's different entries for attack roll, damage roll and saving throw, even though they're all part of the same player action, filters are poor, etc etc.

Makes it so that if there's enemies acting subsequently (ie 3-4 enemies act after each other, without interruptions), all their turns will play at the same time, you dont have to wait for each of them to move individually and do their shit.

we dont.
since RTWP is the genre infested with leftism, while turn based tends to be politics free since its ofthen japanese or eastern european.

you can just download BG2 EE 1.3 for the convenient experience without any of beamdog's retarded changes to UI that make it ugly as fuck

I refuse to believe Caja was that ugly

>Social Justice With Pause

Fucking wild, I thought it was some dumb shit hybrid system like in Wizardry or something

Wish me luck faggots

Attached: 20190614093757_1.jpg (1920x1080, 242K)

There's nothing wrong with it.
It is almost perfect in that it gives you a fluid shift between combat and out of combat stuff, and allows you do make smaller more precise moves between stuff that would normally take up turns, it is superior to the rigid form of tabletop d&d even.

/salute

Attached: bg1archers.png (996x408, 29K)

I really wish we'd get a ToEE remastered. That game is a 10/10 dungeon crawler, but fuck me everything that isn't the combat is actually painful. I hope someday whoever holds the license makes a remaster with tons of quality of life upgrades.

>You know that the argument is between TB and RtwP, the latter being the zoomer option right (and a straight marketing decision as well)?
vocaroo.com/i/s0EkDdSP8xuN

brainlet

How do you learn regex? I need to learn it for barotrauma.

Defender is such a lame concept.
A dwarf fighter is already cool, no reason to snowflake it up by giving a special dwarf class that is just fighter but better.

Drop DEX to 7 and max STR and CON but also put INT to 11
You're welcome

>Drop DEX to 7
lol

Attached: unnamed.jpg (406x362, 42K)

Actually, 6 would be just fine for a pure melee tank

Attached: BG DEX.png (701x773, 33K)

Are there any penalties for excessively resting in between encounters?

in bg1 a few quest are on timer

Nope
you might get ambushed in your sleep sometimes, though.
And in towns guards may be like ''fuck off retard''
If you accept quests that are times and rest that of course has an impact

not that i know of, there's just a chance of being attacked if resting in a dungeon

And in bg2 companions will complain and then leave if you don't do their quests
Other than that no

Followed some huge modding guide for the game found on tamriel foundry (someone here recommended it some time ago) and decided to go full righteous justice mode with a paladin (cavalier). Was told to reroll until I get 18 str/con/dex. Was I bamboozled or is this decent stuff?

Attached: 438972.32000000007_Baldr000.png (1920x1080, 1.14M)

you already have 18 str/con/dex though
the int is obviously on the low side but you can use potions for that when needed, IF needed depending on how you play

>6 INT
tasty

Attached: mind-flayer-by-gabriel-cassata.jpg (907x604, 97K)

I assume you've played d&d, but you haven't played the video games based on them?
You want 18 dex as a fighter, if you're a dwarf you still want 18 but you'll make due with 17.

Going from 16 dex to 6 which you suggest is taking away 2 armor class according to that chart.
It doesn't matter if he's wearing full plate or not.

I wonder if you can be so brainlet that a mind flayer doesn't even register you

shame

Worst of both worlds

I'd reroll until 18/00+18+18.
Sure you get a strength tome later, but it's nice to have perfect strength up until then.
Getting 18 charisma and some non atrocious intelligence shouldn't be so hard as well, but not sure with 18/00 strength.
13 wis is the lowest for paladins right?

RTwP was made for zoomers you fucking retards

No shame in using the tools provided by the game :^)

Most melee classes are only really useful in the early game, most mage classes only get good around half way through. Thieves are always useful for their skills but there are plenty of them, specifically six of the possible companions are thieves.

So generally if you're going to play the whole franchise and this is your first time I recommend playing a Fighter/Mage, or if you're human starting as a fighter until around 10 and then dual classing into a mage. That way you start out with competent melee class and you can advance into a spellcaster.

First Time playing, not at the ToEE/podt-game co8 content, really like it so far but more for the excellent combat system than else. If anything, patent that shit or steal it from troika's cold hands and make it an obligatory standard for every DnD based CRPG, from IEs to Kingmaker

here you go:

This is how you spot someone underage that thinks turn based came after RTwP

Berserker doesn't give a fuck about you.
He was mowing these octopussies down better than any other member of my party.

You can use the triology mod and have the BG2 engine.

Attached: 5CC43F1D-4F4E-4A30-AA27-E62E9E8E5058.png (638x1000, 209K)

berserker's are not immune to the int succ
they're my favorite fighter kit though still

I was talking more about mind control.

People who actually play RPGs don't like RtwP, and those who do don't pretend it's some kind of patrician hardcore choice. That's only you Yea Forums retards who are pretty much middle schoolers that get beat up by classmates so they go bully kids in primary, so you go flaunting your expertise about baby's first RPG over gameFAQs tier users who only play Skyrim thinking it makes you hot shit, while the rest of the world that actually knows what they are fucking talking about laugh at you for being so proud of your partecipation award.

Doesn't excel at anything. Turn-based has more strategy and depth, real time is faster and more fluid.
RTwP has neither and doesn't do anything particularly well. A real time game designed about being played real time, but with a pause function to give you some breathing room now and then (Total War series) is fine though. It's shit when the game is designed around the pause feature.

Does it really outperforms all Chevalier buffs if I plan on never using ranged weapons on main dude?

The only useful thing Cavalier has going for it is poison immunity

armor of faith is good too so don't forget that

Is Neera one of the companions that was added with the EE or whatever newer iteration I'm playing? I've met her twice and the voice overs for all the NPCs that so far have been involved in her appearances are, in the actual meaning of the word, cringy

and fear resistance....

Neera's sole purpose is to give you the gem pouch, ditch her right after.

Yeah she's an EE companion
I thought she wasn't too bad desu

Neera is the earthly avatar of lolrandumb done wrong.
Given she shares a game with lolrandum done right, it’s unforgivable.

How's Neera's lolrandumb any worse than Minsc's?
Hard mode: you can't use the following words in your argument: "beamdog", "soul", "soulless", "old good" and "new bad"
Legitimate question as I don't think people would care about Neera's being like that without the emotional baggage of coming from the EE, but if you are just gonna say "because the EE sucks soulless" then don't bother

>minsc
>lolrandumb
kill yourself retard

I unironically prefer RPGS with RTwP over isometric turn based RPGS. Hell even Fallout 1 and 2 would be more fun for me with it.

So what you are actually saying RTwP is bad when it is badly implemented. Cool with me.

I don't think you've every played an rpg
prove me wrong

Fuck, do you ever go to sleep?

>muh go for the eyes
>muh death destroyer of worlds
>muh TIAX RULES
There's a lot of caricatures in the cast, might be a bunch of people

sorry bud, you outed yourself as the retard that you are
it's not opposite day
it's free to post which is why you haven't been banned for your idiotic opinion you repeat after having read some other idiot's post

All three of the characters you mentioned are insane though

those are random or infantile?
ah I see you are a larianigger shill

You're actually right
Also if her portrait wasn't so dykeish, she'd be touted as a top-tier waifu

Turn based niggers managed to convince themselves things are more 'tactical' when they have infinite pauses between every action.
They unironically think that in spite of removing the most tactical part of all, which is the continuous stream of decisions about what aspects of a complex situation to focus on.

uhhh turn-based bros, I don't feel so good after this short post completely destroyed our narrative

Different people. I'm the first one, sup.
I'm just pointing out how ironic it is Yea Forums pretends to be hot shit for understanding RtwP and dismiss who doesn't as a zoomer, while it is considered the quintessential zoomer system by people who actually talk about RPGs. I'm not even arguing over preferring it to TB, just the notion that Yea Forums has to immediately argue against the invisible strawman of a zoomer who's just too dumb for understanding the magnificent tactical depth of what the rest of the world that isn't Yea Forums or children see as baby's first RPG.
Yea Forums isn't exactly a place for RPG discussion either, at best you get people who played the IE games, at worst people who half completed PS:T's first floor just to say they played it and put it in the obligatory Yea Forums approved 3x3 chart, so it's not unccomon for people to think BG2 is some sort of pinnacle of strategy

Trying to be jack of all trades, that only pays off far later in game. If you are a fighter with no mage aspirations you’ll do with 9 intelligence instead of 13.

go back to your shitty website you came from where they don't agree with your there either
also stop signalling your fake bullshit when you haven't played anything more than these "zoomers" you mention (most of which repeat what you said)

If you plan on playing BGII never build any character with a int score below 12 otherwise mindflayers will fuck you shit.

>so it's not unccomon for people to think BG2 is some sort of pinnacle of strategy

Yeah it's incredible uncommon because I have never seen somebody claiming that. Usually it's people talking about Icewind Date when it comes to complimenting the combat. And that is a game which is essentially one RTwP combat after the other. The Horror!

Also fuck off with your "zoomer" shit, BG came out in 1998 and is quintessential boomer.

Then play competitive Starcraft if you really care about that, or PoE or any other game with a ruleset that doesn't come from tabletop, don't force a round peg in a square hole. Doing delicate shit like 5 foot steps or alternative attack actions just sucks in RtwP.
Take Charge Attack for example. You take an AC malus and a full action to cover more distance than you normally could and deliver an attack. It's an action with well defined pros and cons. You put it in RtwP and whoops, since it's in real time people will attack you during your charge animation while your AC is already debuffed.
>b-but now you have to strategize moar, don't use it when enemies can attack you
Again, not the point of the move in its supposed inception. Either rework and rebalance the entire ruleset to function with the obvious changes real time brings, or make a new one like PoE did, don't fucking force it in a scenario it obviously doesn't belong to.

Not him but I dump Dex on full plate dudes, as any dex buffing equip gets you to the max dex to AC. A single +4 dex item does it, or Cat's Grace.
This is more important if you're playing a MAD class like paladin

>fuck off with your "zoomer" shit, BG came out in 1998 and is quintessential boomer.
If we were at the turn of the century it's infinityfags who would be called casuals by blobberchads.

You need at least 90 iq to "get" rtwp, which is why you probably don't "get it"

Out of my way blobber fucking shits

Attached: PoR_12.png (705x435, 37K)

There is nothing to "get" it's just real-time combat that wasn't designed to be properly micromanaged so they shoved in a queue function with pause.

It's different, therefore it's bad.

My first time playing was with the EE, I got her without knowing she was an EE OC, so no bias. After a couple of screen transitions, she starts dialogue with a bunch of backstory dump, which no original companion did. It wasn't that bad, but nothing special either.

actually they wouldnt be called casuals because they would be the same people
people that played d&d and computer games were excited about baldur's gate

nah bro it's like super deep you dumb zoomer maybe you should go back to the witcher 3 or something more up your speed

Decent doesn't do anything for your armor class from 8-14 and the only piece of gear that sets your dex to 18 instead of adding a point or 2 is a pair of gloves. The other dex great are usually not the best for their slot.

korax
traps if it's a version with the BG2 engine
potion of mirror eyes from high hedge
charm enemies using cloak of algernon and have them fight each other

you just admitted you don't "get" rtwp a post earlier though
and how is it not designed for micromanagement when that is what the system excel at
you're not too bright

IE games were definitely casual compared to Gold Box games, Wizardry, M&M etc.

>how is it not designed for micromanagement when that is what the system excel at
*hundreth microless trash fight begins and ends uneventfully*

cool post, you really beat me with your arguments

Bullshiterido and you just exposed yourself for either being too young or just not being there when BG was released.
The whole cRPG was fucking DEAD, like as a genre completely dead. The people who loved those Gold Box Games where starving for a game to play for years, without any hope.
Baldurs Gate was the fucking Messiah when it came out. The nectar of the gods for a thirsty af crowd. The RTwP combat was friggin revolutionary, especially with RTS games being so popular during that time.
Can't remember reading or hearing anything negative about it back then, the only ones where jRPG weirdos.

this

What is literally any RPG when you're fighting lower level monsters?

>The whole cRPG was fucking DEAD, like as a genre completely dead.
Fallout came out a year earlier and was a vastly superior CRPG.

The basic problem is that it’s the extent of her personality.
Minsc acts the way he does because is legitimately brain damaged, but beyond that he still has stalwart values that shine through.
Jan, the character I was referring to as a prime example of it done right, is clearly putting on an act for various reasons. He moulds it to whoever He’s speaking to, like comforting Aerie and Jaheira, or placating Korgan. He’s capable of being flustered when someone like Keldorn or Valygar pierces it, and can’t hold onto it when mocking Anomen. He also, when the need arises, completely drops it. Compare and contrast Jan getting angry, where his first words are along the lines of “did that bastard hurt them?” While Neera getting genuinely angry at Viconia results in her saying “you smell like cheese XD” in various ways.

just cast raise dead and haste or improved haste the skeleton warrior, which is immune to all mind effects and psionic blast and completely shits on mind flayers in melee

Abusing game mechanics and coming up with retarded strategies is more enjoyable than playing a powerful character

Then it must have been treated as a fluke and a good game that was unfortunately in a dead genre. Baldurs Gate revived the RPG genre and people back then were explicitly saying so.

>you just admitted you don't "get" rtwp a post earlier though
Based retard cherrypicking what users make which posts in a board without IDs. Want me to make a trip so your brain doesn't slide off your skull? Or just as a precaustion against your convenient debate skillz?
No, I didn't say I don't get it, I said it's like forcing a square block into a round hole.

>Not him but I dump Dex on full plate dudes
That's retarded.
You have 1 item that sets dex to 18, and it is useful for so many other characters.
Your own character can easily max out dex and everything else he needs.
Dumping dex is a 70 iq move, there's no reason to and it has no benefit.

Ah I see, thanks user, thought you were referring to someone else from 1

Oh I just remember. Fallouts turn-based combat must have felt completely archaic because Diablo was the shit.

>it's just real-time combat that wasn't designed to be properly micromanaged
It is not an issue, in fact it is the main point.
RTwP is the best system precisely because you have to choose what is the key thing to do at any moment when overwhelmed by a flow of information too large to micromanage.
Anti-rtwp are seething that they can't minmax every single aspect of the game.
That's how you end up either with decent mechanics but deployed in retard mode (turn based) or dumbing down the core mechanics enough to be able to micromanage in real time (action RPG).

>pros
makes boring filler fights hobby faster and take less attention/effort

>cons
makes fights where you want to micromanage every character infinitely more tedious

instead of using rtwp you could just pace the game better to deal with filler fights and now your important fights are more enjoyable

M&M6 came out in 98 too and was great.

Might & Magic VI came earlier and was much better.

>you have to choose what is the key thing to do at any moment when overwhelmed by a flow of information too large to micromanage.
>too large to micromanage
>with pausing
you're describing rts my dude

Or you could just fucking remove filler fights.
Look at TOEE. It had barely any fights before you reach the temple and it's beloved.

GOODBYE, JO-JO~

>you have to choose what is the key thing to do at any moment when overwhelmed by a flow of information too large to micromanage
The info is "too large to micromanage" because it is poorly implemented, typically with UIs that aren't conductive to fast response for instance. RTS games can have fairly deep mechanics but still work just fine if you have the skill.
>decent mechanics but deployed in retard mode (turn based)
How is rtwp any less "retard mode"? Remember it literally doesn't take any more mechanical skill than TB anyway.
>dumbing down the core mechanics enough to be able to micromanage in real time (action RPG)
Again not really true, sure Diablo and the like are fairly brainlet mode but something like Rage of Mages is still fairly complex and skill-intensive.

that's what I mean by pacing
>hurr durr its low level rpg
isn't an excuse for meaningless, poorly designed fights

instead of 10 boring fights against a couple nobody bandits you can have 2 or 3 fights that weave a narrative

>I said it's like forcing a square block into a round hole
well that's not true or really an intelligent thing to say either
the rest you typed up mentioning starcraft is also dumb
so no upvotes or funny images under your comment that are actually ridiculing you (that you also don't "get" ), sorry

mm no it wasn't
it also wasn't turn based either

>MM6
>not turn based
kek
try pressing Enter

>it also wasn't turn based either
You just had to hit enter and it went into turn-based mode.

>NWN is just one character
But that's wrong

not designed to be played turn based and you can tell.. if you play the game
you might want to play these games you namedrop sometime

infact the game is basically rtwp since the "turn based mode" is actually there so you don't get swamped by amounts of enemies or in melee fights

>not designed to be played turn based
Is that why it was literally designed with a turn based mode? Using TB is also fairly important versus the tougher melee enemies to kite them.

NWN companions are GARBO! TRASH! RUBBISH!

The regex is way too complex. to filter this dude all you would need is
(?

I didn't use the wish spell much before but tried using it in a game as sorcerer. My wisdom was very high, 23 or more IIRC
It's insanely powerful. Especially, one of the choices you can get is timestop that lasts more than regular timestop, another one makes it as if your party had rested so you can cast all your spells again
If you keep getting these, not hard to with that high wis, you can kill all enemies that are not timestop immune without them ever moving

Imagine being this asspained about someone capitalizing words

Salewise and critically it was outshined by Baldurs Gate. It was cucked out of winning pretty much all RPG of the year awards and BG won several Game of the Year awards to boot.

quite from wiki I just found
"Just how big was Interplay's role-playing game Baldur's Gate? Big enough to almost single-handedly revitalize the traditional RPG genre. Big enough to keep Interplay shareholders at least moderately appeased. And apparently big enough to spur new titles based on both its engine ... and its retail success."
—Gordon Goble of CNET Gamecenter in 1999[99]

Sorry I'm retarded, confused this one with the Pathfinder thread, much more +dex items, and dex bonus to ac is capped by armor
Though I did leave Dex at 10 with my character, and yeah I'm wearing the gloves. My party is Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir. Everyone else either has high dex or doesn't need dex anyway

RTS is on another region of a depth-speed compromise. In Starcraft, the situations are still less complex than in BG2 (your whole army will have as many special moves as a single BG caster). But I agree RTwP is close to RTS.
RTwP are intricate just enough to be somewhat manageable in real time but the game offers you the opportunity to recap the situation at will.
The only bad aspect of the infinity engine rtwp games is that you sometime have to pause to give special orders to caster even when the situation isn't critical at all. This is an UI problem not related to rtwp itself, and is fixable with mods.

>Trusting game "journalism"
Bioware bribed the shit out of them back then like they do now.

Looked up Fallout as well

In retrospect, CNET Gamecenter's Mark H. Walker wrote, "The RPG genre was clearly in a slump in the mid-'90s, but in August 1997 the renaissance began when Interplay's Fallout hit store shelves.

So you can say Fallout was what got the ball slowly rolling, but I think as a game it was better appreciated much later. One reason for this I would say because its combat was turn-based, which was pretty outdated in the later 90s.

literally the only defense of real time with pause that I've ever heard anyone make is that it makes encounters with trash enemies faster. if that's the best they can come up with it says more about the games that use it than the mechanic itself.

Bioware wasn't that big back then, at least not to bribe every game magazine west of Moscow. Because that was the general sentiment.
I also remember playing BG back then and it was the bomb. Yeah *sip* that was a good game.

What's the point of "beating" encounters that way? Not only is Time Stop super cheesy, you're adding another layer of extra cheese on it?

(and Bioware/Interplay were about to go broke, or at least were on their last legs)

>My party is Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir.
Imagine being this bland and uninteresting

Bioware was founded by two jews (Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk). They certainly had enough money and influence for that.
Also I played both games too and found MM6 to be much better as did everyone I knew who played them both.

At least he won't be disappointed when BG2 forces that one as the canon party anyway

I also like the flow of it better, and turn based creates this artificial "Now it's combat time!" and moment when it transitions. RTwP places the combat better in the world, for me.

I fucking love cheese dude

>literally the canon party

>human
>portrait with knife-ears

hush.
the beginning of BG2 was all a terrible hallucination I want nothing to do with those people

yes exactly, the most boring possible choice you could ever make, with the least interesting characters available.

>Jews never go broke! They always have some extra gold around their neck!

Ok bud
I also played them both and MM6 is great and my favourite of the series. I'm just stating the facts.

both him and Korgan were the best written party members in the game but honestly you need 125+ IQ to understand why

Attached: Anomen_Delryn_NANOMEN_Portrait_BG2.png (210x330, 120K)

>cast mass protection from evil
>enemy mage time stops and casts gate
>doesn’t cast protection from evil on himself
>sit back and laugh as he gets gibbed
I’ve yet to see it happen again, but it’s easily my favourite memory

what is this stupid narrative you're pushing

They aren't jewish you fucking retard

Why was Viconia added to BG2 btw? I can see Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc and Edwin being very popular. Was Viconia among them?

Bioware was an attempt by (((them))) to infiltrate the gaming industry. They ruined the RPG genre in the west and now only Japan makes decent RPGs.

That is true, but only when you get up to 135+ iq, then you realize that Anomen is trash.

To summarise my position:
Even if you think MM6 was the better game, Baldurs Gate was much more influential and was more praised in its time

[Citation needed]

>tfw fun magic like this won't be in BG3
sucks bros

Yes Viconia was popular in bg1.

Btw as a woman what are your thoughts on Anomen as a romanceable character? Do you think you got the short stick of only one romanceable character in bg2?

Give me your source on them being jews then lmao because they're both Canadians with Slavic ancestry and surnames and nothing says otherwise

rtwp is completely different than rts. if it actually controlled like a rts it would be fine, but it's infinitely less responsive and the interface is literally worse than starcraft's, which everyone complains is shit. pretty much all rtwp games are lacking control groups, an attack move command, and effective hotkeys in some combination. they also lack the responsiveness of a good rts because of the hidden round timers.

because Drow are autist fapbait
Thats literally it, not like she's even really an interesting character but devs know that incels lust over Drow femdom for some reason.

I unironically agree and would like to see those improvements in a modern party based RPG. Make it more slick and hotkeys for everything (including your own scripts)

I have sacrificed kana to skaen in poe1 and did he same with his sister shortly after fucking her, and then admitting that I killed kana. So I left her, not otherwise.

I hope in PoE 3 we can fuck and kill the rest of their family

Bioware was a literal nobody before baldur's gate

It has all of those already, play non EE editions for actual hotkey options.

Shattered Steelchads rise up

I just beat deadfire and it was actually pretty decent. it was entertaining enough that I spent like a week playing it all day. the main story was weak but it was fun sailing around hunting pirates and shit.

Main story is forgettable, but the setting and the factions were actually quite interesting. Pity the ship combat sucks until you board. Oveall I think they had an OKish combat system in Deadfire, though it was too easy and power levels were probably a bad idea.

At least use MDK, SS was a trash ripoff of better mech games at the time

They needed a pure cleric party member for you because even they realized how much of a useless faggot Anomen was.

Should I turn off ship combat? I think you can do that now? Might give the game another go, only played 5 minutes then put it aside.

I think they only made MDK2 though, which came out after BG.

Barely any women played crpgs back then, let alone old DnD ones with shit like thac0

There is a slim chance that you'll be one of the 5 people on the planet who like ship-to-ship combat, otherwise it's skippable.

> RTwP places the combat better in the world, for me.

True that. It's also partly what makes Pillars of eternity so frustrating. They keep the RTWP but have very stark separations between the way combat controls and the way moving around controls. Plus the weird buff timers that change depending on whether or not you're in combat, or spells that can only be cast in combat.

Attached: 1538590833398.jpg (666x500, 72K)

I tried it a couple times to test my ship loadout but it's just shit. imagine skies of arcadia ship combat but without any animations and even more simplistic.
