when those games came out, not only were they groundbreaking, the amount of ground broke was beyond unprecedented.
since then, the territory covered by a single game's release has not compared to those 2.
doesn't look like it'll ever happen again, either.
the closest a modern game release has come compared to those two is probably dark souls.

This, except Dark Souls is garbage & didn’t even win GOTY. Resident Evil 4 is the closest we’ve seen to a game having impact on the level of MGS1, FF7, SM64 & OOT
