Trust me, I know they all play differently in Ultimate. I'm talking about trimming down the characters in a hypothetical "reboot", and if they don't want to import Wolf, they may just settle for an echo.

Sure, but that's a ton of work and for a lot of those characters, the payoff isn't great. It's an exciting thing if you do it once, but if people demand it then you've shot yourself in the foot. Every fighting game cuts some characters between titles.
