Anything but what? You can use RE-safe moves, or break attack, or drop/delay your string, or just move. There are a plethora of ways around RE, which is why you don't see it very often at high-level. It's a crutch for new players who haven't learned the gorillion moves/strings in the game yet.

OK, first, neither of these are really punish characters. Raph, Sophie, Cervantes, those are punish characters. Especially not nightmare, he's literally the slowest character in the game.

2B also operates at a much wider variety of ranges than Nightmare. She has way higher mobility with her stances, way longer combos but lower base damage, and way different frame data. NM's whole gimmick is his defensive armor on several key moves and his CE, and his terror charge, which 2B doesn't have.

That webm wasn't supposed to be particularly impressive, just demonstrate how utterly different 2B is from nightmare.

Nah. Soul Charge creates space and gives devs the flexibility to design moves that are flat-out stronger than the rest of a moveset. That's interesting.

Lethal Hits are great because give moves unique situational utility, encouraging you to use moves in ways you might not otherwise, and pay special attention to edge-case scenarios.

Personally I think RE and CEs would be fine if the animations were several seconds shorter.

Not really, V-trigger is obnoxious because SFV characters are already so sterile and limited that it's annoying for part of their toolset to be locked behind this mode. SC, on the other hand, has traditionally suffered from the opposite problem: characters have such large movesets that it's very difficult to make all of them useful. Consider SC2's gigantic movesets where only like 20 moves would ever get used. Lethal Hits are also helpful here.

If they just hit like normal then they wouldn't give you enough incentive to use those moves in specific ways, or encourage you to put special thought into those situations (like fighting a 2B with full health, or using SC against Geralt, or having full meter against yoshi, or fighting a cervantes who's fired 9 gunshots, or the post-GI game against Kilik/Amy/Talim/etc etc etc). It is another thing to learn, but it's very interesting.
