Is this game actually good or is it just a meme?
It's great if you like games half life 1 or soldier of Fortune
I liked FEAR 2 better. Shiny graphics, edgy dialogue, glitchy scary moments, super futuristic beep boop UI. 2008 era games had something special. I mean that unironically.
One of the best shooters made desu
The gunplay is 11/10 but everything else ranges from okay to shit. Levels are boring, story is retarded, there are like 2 different enemies, good AI is a meme, most of it is scripted sequences.
Why don't you find out for yourself?
Excellent but has its shortcomings. Most of the environments in the first 90% of the game are very same-ish in both level design and visual design (although it's necessary for the AI to function the way it does for the environments to be the way they are). The story also only really kicks in during the third act.
The game is still phenomenal when it comes to gunplay, combat design, and atmosphere.
I dont want to spend all the time to download it to find out its shit.
Unless you're poor or american, your internet should be fast enough to have downloaded the game in time this thread existed.
played through it like 3 times solely for the gameplay.I can only think of max payne 3 in terms of good gunplay that can match it.
It's great, you can ignore the sequels
Yeah it's amazing, just remember to play on Hard, it has a significant impact on the game. Mostly the AI gets better iirc, anything below Hard and you will probably come away thinking it's overrated. One of my favorite shooters
but im shit at games.
CONTACT
Worth it. Play it. 2nd is good. 3rd is tra3h.
FLASHLIGHT
I quit after like the third mission because I got bored.
>drab levels (dark corridors, dark offices, dark factories, etc.)
>no enemy variety (just soldiers using different weapons)
>zero music
>painfully slow movement
Went back to playing Painkiller after quitting F.E.A.R. and it was nothing but fun.
It's ok. Guns feel great and sometimes the level design is good enough to mix well with the enemy AI and lead to some genuinely fun and interesting scenarios but outside of the highlights it's just an ok shooter and when there's no room for the AI to do cool shit then the enemies are too token to provide remarkable fights.
I didn't like 2 more but I did like it a whole lot. Spot on about the look as well. I love that they just filled the screen/game with every fucking effect they could.
it's top tier. It plays (and sometimes looks) better than a lot of modern shooters
*tSssS* *TssSss*
>the weird Alma following you around in the first level before the nuke goes off.
Spooped the first time but it is pretty funny how jank her model looks.
Are the DLCs good ?
It's an excellent shooter with great gameplay, sound and lighting effects.
But the story is meh and all the levels are just warehouses or office buildings. Still worth a play
It's great, one of the expansion is great too but I don't remember which one it was.
WHERE DID HE GO
>SoF
based user
SHUT THE FUCK UP
FUCK
HES TO FAST
SQUAD CHECK IN
I CANT LAND A SHOT
It has the best physic engine ever made. Nail gun is the best.
Yes, it's good. Great gunplay
2 is imo isn't that good compared to 1
>painkiller
Cringe
>tfw always keeping the shotgun on hand
>mfw it took me a while to realize when Alma first semi captures you she changes her body to be younger because she wants the PC's dick.
I wonder what it felt like. I didn't like how they made him a broke fuck in 3 and then just killed him off.
Nice gib.
Shooting is nearly god tier. Horror is scary movie tier.
I'm afraid to replay this because it might shatter my rosy memories of it. Also it won't run on Windows 7 for some reason
Extraction Point is fantastic. Perseus Mandate isn't as good but still fun for one playthrough.
I barely used it. Felt underpowered unless you were using slo-mo, which I was trying to restrain myself from using because it's basically a "win fight instantly" button. Mostly stuck to the G3A3, Penetrator, and a heavy power weapon.
Slow mo is great.
I haven't played in years, but yeah it's legitimately great.
Yeah, but it was my first playthrough, so I wanted to experience it better without relying on a crutch. I'll likely use it a lot more when I play it again.
>that moment when REV6 falls through the roof
Everyone has their opinions, but I think 2 was good, but not as good as 1. I don't even remember much about 2, however the ending was fucking nuts. In a good way.
I'm not following. Is bullet time in Max Payne also a crutch?
If you rely on it to win every fight, yes.
>that full atuo spike launcher
>pinning enemies to walls and ceilings
Is that from one of the expansions? I only remember that happening in the decayed apartment building
Its a game from like 2006 user, its not exactly a large file a la FFXV and 100gb of bullshit.
The game is somewhat generous with health packs early on, and stabilizes later. You'll run short but never run out on hard, especially if you check each corner
1>2>3 but 2 is at least fun, just different. 2 had a great multiplayer system too
The early missions are drab yeah, but once the drones, turrets, ninjas, mechs, heavies, and ghosts come out its more intense and varied
Honestly they arent bad. Extraction point is fun and introduces something they should have patched into the main game (melee to open doors). The new weapons and tools are fun too, like the laser beam thing.
>the ending was fucking nuts
Literally nuts, yeah
Or it's the way the devs intended to be played. There's nothing wrong disliking a feature or artificially handicapping yourself to throw more challenge into the mix, but those features were put there for a reason. If the dev didn't want you to use it all the time, they could have easily made it so that you couldn't.
t. also rarely used it, but understand its purpose
To be desu I'd like to see some webms of you running through F.E.A.R. on the highest difficulty without using bullet time in some fashion. Handicapping yourself for an extra challenge is fine, but it's another thing to call it a crutch when it's also about looking and being stylish.
Using slo-mo basically says "I can't beat this situation with just my cover and skills with a gun, so I need extra help", and playing on high difficulty, there was only the odd situation in which my own gun-handling ability was not enough. I wasn't going to be a pussy and hit the slo-mo button everytime I heard "SQUAD, RECON" in the room ahead of me.
Yeah and as I said, I used it rarely as well. But sometimes it was just cool to use it to see the chaos happen in slow motion. But that doesn't change the fact that the developers intended for it to be used as much as it was allowed to be used. You can flex your badass gamer e-peen all you want, but at the end of the day it doesn't mean anything. People can enjoy things however they're allowed to. For you that's handicapping, for the other guy that's enjoying the bullet time effects. Doesn't make him a pussy because he's playing the game as intended.
Not bad not great
No it doesn't because you play games to have fun and bullet-time is precisely that. Also I can think of several times slow-mo was if not required certainly a good idea if you dislike dying.
