A new theory is that none of it is real. Humanity is gone because its reached one of the real-life theories of our future and why we don't see aliens anywhere. There's simply no point in going out into space, we have full immersion VR that is hooked right to our brains and can generate anything real+anything we could imagine making it essentially better than real life. Perfect wish fulfillment. Their landscape was a sort of neutral chatroom where people could "turn off" everything more or less and just talk to each other. It's fallen to ruin because everyone has simply become immersed in their own wish fulfilled fantasied and no longer care about other real human beings.

Sam is part of a group of people that still think that there is value in reality even if it is ugly and not as satisfying as the VR worlds. This is also why you can't die in the game, because you're just being knocked around in the VR public space.

Bridge babies might be new connections, as in real newborns that have been hooked up to the VR as it's all done automatically now in their society. Something about how they're handled within the system lets Sam and others exploit certain programmed loopholes when having them around.

This would all fit with the idea of humanity needing to reconnect with each other.

Considering that all of this design can change at any time, Mads is seen in modern warfighter gear commanding skeleton troops in WW1 and WW2 gear. I think Hades is more generally just constant warfare regardless of time or space but maybe "leveling up" and advancing in Hades earns you more modern equipment. Mads is also seen naked in Hades so maybe he had just "spawned" and didn't have gear yet.

All the skeleton soldiers in the Del Toro trailer wore WW2 gear, so much that they had insignias from a WW2 US Army unit on their uniforms. If I remember correctly the tank was a Wolverine, which was a WW2 US Tank Hunter.

Pre-Kojima-game-release threads are max comfy entertainment. I learned from MGSV, though. While I enjoy the ride and what fascinating theories people can conjure with what we have I feel like it will be underwhelmingly flat in comparion. I want the game to never release, only new cryptic trailers that raise more questions than they answer but with cool aesthetics and great atmospheric songs. The trailers are still the best thing about MGSV by a mile.
