Why is Ridley so underused by people in Smash?
Why is Ridley so underused by people in Smash?
is he?
Ridley is among the first picks in my rotation of mains, tied with Rob and Game and Watch
Metroid deserves all the rep it gets but ultimately, it's not a popular franchise. If casuals want a big dragon, more often they'll go to Zard or Bowser.
People who play the game more may find Ridley to be underwhelming as a whole. Somewhat nimble but lacks flexibility in various ways like landing lag on aerials, doesn't quite pack the punch of an actual heavy outside of the hard to hit Skewer and an admitedly good FSmash.
Because he's bottom tier.
He's pretty shit in this game
he's not very good
I actually like his moveset but he's so slow in the air and his recovery is crap
you just get bullied in every matchup
I use him quite a bit.
But, uh, he's also not that good
>A few major balance patches have already came and went
>Ridley got basically nothing in all of them
I'd say if by this time next year Ridley still hasn't gotten anything it's over.
He's Broken in a bad way. Large wind ups to pitiful damage. Huge hit box and slow. He's basically a joke character.
But Ridley is my main, user.
>main is stuck at 90K
>roster GSP is almost 3M because of reasons
>don’t want to practice secondaries because the knock to GSP will be insane with each loss
I’m so garbage at this game.
A significant portion of Nintendo's presentation will be about the fixes coming to his moveset, you'll see.
I like him, but I absolutely hate his recovery.
Unironically weaker than Melee Pichu and Brawl Falcon. He's straight up bottom tier.
Because the only people who wanted him in were Metroidfags who wanted representation but weren't actually going to play him. Being a bottom tier unfun heavy doesn't help either.
Down-b and pressing a during the windup should make him start doing a pogo.
Aerial movement buffs would be pretty great as well.
He's kinda awkward and huge without being all that strong
The weakest character in the roster. He can't kill, he's lightweight, he can't damage, and he can't recover.
Because he exists.
Y-yeah user, for sure
He’s trash but every single time I fight one I die to his Forward Smash at like 50%
I just hope they give him and Rool some love. Wish I thought they would but I don't feel confident about it at all.
Man them going over major balance plans in the direct would make my day. Have they ever done that though? Discuss balance changes in a direct?
I have so much fun with him and don't care to use many other characters. I just want him to be ironed out and brought up to solid mid tier.
This. Nobody actually wanted him in. It was just a meme bandwagon everyone wanted to jump on to pressure Sakurai out of his comfort zone.
It's almost like he was begrudgingly added to satisfy a small loud group of autismos
I fucking hate Ridleyfags, a bunch of fake fans who has never played a single Metroid game in their entire lives.
You and him can fuck each other. I've wanted him in forever and he's my main. If you shits only play quickplay of course all you're gonna see is top tier characters.
Ridley is my main though.
I love lankyboi.
because his recovery is absolute ass and he's combo food. pretty much any other heavyweight is a better option. that being said, i do enjoy playing him
based g&w main, how do you feel now that uptilt actually works?
>caring about how often other people use a character
He's in, I main him.
I play him all the time. He's really fun to win with. You have to be sneaky and do things to catch your opponent off guard.
Of course, other characters can just win by spamming their F-airs and side smashes, so they're "good." (Seriously, fuck all the Marths.)
Odds of them buffing him? Honestly. You think the balance team sees him as fine?
>*nairs you*
>*nairs you again*
>Heh... nice "attacks", kid... *nairs you once more*
>Implying you can think for yourself
You wanted him because of the hype that other people built for him. That's literally it, and you can't convince me otherwise you filthy casual.
I've played Metroid since the original. I fucking adore Prime 1 and Super. I wanted him in because I love Metroid. Here's your (You).
He's really bad, so people stay away from him.
I play him anyway because fuck it.
Doubtful. Real Metroid fans wouldn't have wanted Ridley in Smash Bros except as a boss character.
If that was true I would be playing K Rool.
I wanted him in because he kept getting in as a boss and it was pissing me off.
Also because for the love of god, less humans, please, holy shit. Smash started out with six humans, now it's flooded with them.
Really dude?
1. Actually too big. He has the average-ranged hitboxes of an average-sized character which makes him whiff easily due to his height and makes size-relevant matchups worse.
2. Relies on specific cheese combos/tactics at higher levels because his neutral is pretty subpar with 1. in mind.
3. Has perhaps the most useless special move in the game earning him a de facto inferior range of potential actions/utility compared to other characters, without any of the particularly bullshit moves like other characters.
Basically bad fanservice.
Too big is fine if he had the tools to deal with it. We have good heavies on the roster, this shouldn't be an issues that can't be patched.
Because in a game with 70 characters a lot will be relegated to niche character loyalists who don't really anticipate making Top 48.
Quickplay is an ego trap, avoid it. Quickplay's designed so shit that literally nobody has any fun with it. It's effectively just a endurance test, you don't have to be great to have good GSP.
Best way to play smash if you don't have switch friends constantly available is to just look for arenas with 1 or 2 people in them
Because Sakurai made him awkward and ignored any possibility of utilizing some of his moves from the games in smash. Probably because he was upset about being forced to include him after 15 years of telling people he was too big.
He's enormous and frail, none of his attacks hit very hard and the few ones that do are hard to land, and most of his moveset just looks really pathetic for a badass space dragon. Like why the fuck would he grab his own tail and thrust it like a spear that is the gayest shit imaginable.
>none of his attacks hit very hard
>forward smash hard to land
If you're bad at reads, maybe.
I thought he added him because he did well in the ballot, not due to being forced. Also he said Ridley was enjoyable to make.
Nintendo probably straight up threatened to take Smash away from Sakurai if he didn't put in Ridley, so he had no other choice. He was forced.
Source or your conspiracy theory means jack.
Jesus fucking christ, my man. You'd best be baiting.
Sakurai has been fiercely adamant about keeping Ridley out of Smash. There's no way he willingly went along with adding Ridley, unless if he was forced to do so.
What Ridley has got going for him
>Fuckton damage
>Above average speed
>Amazing recovery
>Good in air too
>Side B is veryyy fucking good
Whats bad:
>Defense sucks a lot
>Neutral B which is only useful if you risk getting gazillion procent damage
>Big hitbox
>Good luck hitting that Down B
>Bad at against projectile spammers
People wanted him just to be able to say "ha ha, my character is in and yours isn't" without intending to actually use him.
But I play him all the time
Guess Villager and Rool were forced too?
You see him all the time in online matches though. He's fun to play as.
At least you weren't a Puff secondary in Smash 4
Retard
I don't care about tiers or whatever, he's just not fun to play as.
He's one of the fastest characters in the game (on the ground at least) and neutral B is actually a really good move. His recovery is probably actually one of the worst things about him due to being Wolf's but worse in every way
>Amazing recovery
Where is your proof?
Make his Skewer pop shields too
Side B has shittons of startup and endlag and doesn't kill until higher percents. It's only ok when it lands.
Wish he was faster in the air. I know Ridley's good at gimping off stage but I can't for the life of me do it. People always air Dodge and move perfectly avoiding my fair and Nair. What am I doing wrong?
This.
Condition them to air dodge and then punish them during the recovery.
Why doesn't it do this already? Hell it does like zero fucking shield damage period. Shits retarded.
As bad as Skewer is, dair should be the pogo. Copy and paste Link's, I don't care, anything is better than another I'll-just-drop-straight-down attack.
You think theyll buff him? Would they really leave their two main newcomers, Rool and Ridley, stay subpar?
No, they will absolutely not use their Direct to discuss balance changes. That would be the worst possible idea for E3.
I actually didn't want Ridley in, but now that he is, he's one of my favorites. He's got such a great moveset for feeling like an awful monster.
>Implying
Of all the new folks, Incineroar's the one Sakurai put his ALL into. Dude has more work put into his expressions/mannerisms than everyone sans DK.
Didn't mean E3 specifically just ever really.
He's never been fiercely adamant about any character (even Waluigi is just a joke every time), if anything Ridley has consistently been put in Smash as a concession.
