Explain why each game on that list is great. Go into detail.

These are all mostly trash though.

WAIT WHAT. /indieg/ you fucking failed me!

Fingers crossed we get some king of 75% off sale at some point or it's in a Humble Bundle so we can get threads back

Indie games have definitely reignited my passion in gaming.

Playing The Final Station. Is comfy

What's an Indie game that isn't too zoomed out? It kills any sense of satisfaction for most games for me, as it did with Rayman Origins too, for a non Indie example.

It's funny how the literal only thread on /vg/ that isn't a dumpster fire is /indie/

you forgot devil engine

>devil engine
Wasn't this an /agdg/-user's game?

Attached: Devil-Engine.jpg (750x422, 87K)

i think so

I would figure any generals that don't focus on a single game have the highest potential for quality

Bump for funass indieshit.

Crosscode is indie?
It has 4 publishers.

Most people, including OP, don't actually understand what an indie game is anymore. They just call anything that isn't a big AAA title indie.
Night in the Woods isn't indie. Edith Finch isn't indie.
Etc.

Dangen, Mayflower, and WhisperGames all focus on localization of products. They aren't a standard funding the game publisher, but a publisher of the game in a specific region for the developer. Given the game was both in Early Access as well had had a crowdfunding campaign, I'm struggling to see why the devs would need a payment injection from the last 'publisher' Deck13. Perhaps they're more on board for publishing the game on non-PC platforms were it would help them actually get the game on the platform with having a publisher

>Night in the Woods isn't indie. Edith Finch isn't indie.

Do you really think OP made the picture himself?

It's just an example since they're included in the OP. He could've spliced a pic himself if he wanted it to be truly indicative of stuff.

Only good game from that pic is Hollow Knight

>Pyre
>Bad
I'll fight you

>Indie
>Independent developer
>Games with publishers, lots of cash backing or other types of support
Yeah, Indie got bastardized just to mean "made by a bunch of nobodies". These days literally anything that isn't made by a big, well-known company is qualified as indie. It's not really like the times of Super Meat Boy where you get 5 guys at most working on the thing with very little financial support beyond their own investment, and publish the damn thing on their own as well.

At least we still have a few of those.
>Kupo Games, which is 1 dude plus occasional help here and there, just recently released Epic Battle Fantasy 5
>Hempuli put out Baba is You

>epic battle fantasy

That shit's still ongoing?

But CrossCode and Toe-Jam and Earl are the only games out of that whole list that could be argued as 'not-indie' and even CrossCode has potential arguments against that notion

Will Night in the Woods turn me into a degenerate? I kinda like the art style

>look it up
>hardly got any attention or sales
Well that's depressing

Yeah. He spent like 2 or 3 years devblogging about it and released it late last year.
No, but if you already have degenerate tendencies, it'll probably make them worse.

>Which one was this?
>Oh, the schmup
>$20 at that
I don't like the genre, so that's a definite no even if I like supporting user's games.

well it has always just meant independently published, but I think the key issue today is that there's barely any difference between a 1 million dollar operation and some faggot in his basement anymore, both people are making games around the same tier that you would want to play if you do at all, i.e. the one dude will at least be monied. these days, the "single dude in his basement *without* cash" meme can't make a success like Cave Story, because nobody wants to play 1MA shit except in extremely rare cases like undertale. which technically was not even entirely 1MA itself but close

Anyone has played this? I got it as a gift

Console ports (especially the Switch one) will give it new life, like Dragon's Dogma got.

You'd think that, but Fighting Games General is one of the oldest and worst generals while the half-dozen generals for specific fighting games are pretty decent.

If it's any consolation we did have an /agdg/-user who was successful in putting out their game

Attached: Monolith.png (616x353, 280K)

indie """"""games"""""" are all garbage. mid-budget japanese games run circles around that trash.

Now that one I did buy and enjoyed a fair bit. God bless D13 and his vidya and contributions to Yea Forumsermin too.

literally all those games are shit though apart from Hollow Knight which is literally one of the best games I've ever played.

Thanks, I was affraid I'd become of of these

I WAS a massive fan of Supergiant's games. Transistor is a complete masterpiece of a game, 10/10 I cannot stress that enough. Bastion and Pyre are magnificent in their own right, 8/10 at least. But they fell for the fucking EGS bribes and that makes me incredibly sad. To know that they're just like all the other greedy, shortsighted shitstain game companies is heartbreaking.

Attached: yes I mad.jpg (640x359, 21K)

Nah, you're fine. Have fun dude.

faggots fuck off

That was an user's too huh? I wonder why one was so much more successful. I'd be interested to see how many of the sales were before and after the Dunkey shout out.

>But they fell for the fucking EGS bribes and that makes me incredibly sad. To know that they're just like all the other greedy, shortsighted shitstain game companies is heartbreaking.

Eh, the game is releasing on everything when Hades comes out of Early Access, so I miss out on nothing. Play incomplete games is for dummies

No love for Katana Zero here?

This is how I feel about Coffee Stain.
>Loved the fuck out of Sanctum 1
>Sanctum 2 was neat albeit a bit worse, updates fixed a lot of the problems
>Goat Sim came completely out of left field, it was alright, but not great, fun for like a half hour romp then and again
>And then they were the first fucking people to fall for the Epic Games Store with Satisfactory, a game I actually really wanted to play
>On top of that, they got the absolute worst deal possible, their 1-year exclusivity window doesn't start until the game fully releases so it's going to be at least 2 years before it's on Steam or anywhere else

>man with bad taste enjoys the most bland expression of a genre's tropes known to man

Give me my goddamn goose game already! Where the fuck is it? Also I'm a bit sad about Sunless Skies. It could have added actual gameplay to Sunless sea but what I've heard it's just more of the same and I don't think I want to start all over again just for a flying train skins.

Attached: goose is loose.jpg (1280x720, 74K)

>Everybody loved and played Frozen Synapse 1
>Frozen Synapse 2 was better than the first and it fucking died on release

It's not fair, I just want an alive multiplayer community to beat on. Maybe if it eventually has a $5 sale or is in a Humble Bundle

Attached: FS 2.jpg (460x215, 33K)

I'm too stupid for Obra Dinn, I have finished all Chapters except 8 and still only have identified a fourth of the passengers

feels kinda weird to not classify Hotline Miami as an Indie Game

Eagerly awaiting My Friend Pedro and Silksong.

Don't forget La-Mulana 2, Battle Princess Madelyn, Dead Cells, The Messenger, Katana Zero, Bloodstained: CotM, Risk of Rain 2, Steamworld Quest, Bit Trip Runner 3, Cultist Simulator, Wizard of Legend, Aggelos, Monster Boy, Omensight, etc

Since we're talking indies I'll mention a few here worth playing:
>Pic related is like anime Iron Chef, where you go out and kill monsters to get ingredients for your dish to please judges. Interesting mix of genres, really charming cast, and a good amount of side content.
>Aztez is one of the most mechanically deep 2D action games ever made combined with a Civ-style turn-based strategy game, a Sin City/Madworld aesthetic, and historically accurate Aztec design/lore
>Aces Wild is also a great 2D action game; it's a weird mix of Otogi, Arcana Heart, God Hand, and Bangai-O with a late 90s/early 00s shonen action aesthetic
>One Finger Death Punch and its sequel scratch the itch that Xiao Xiao and other stickman fight flash animations did years ago
>Sangfroid is a game a guy in a 3x3 thread recommended me which is a Tower Defense/Action hybrid taking place in 19th Century Canada; it's janky but it's also completely Free (no microtransactions, it's just free).
>My Friend Pedro is out this month and it looks fucking phenomenal, definitely picking it up whenever it drops

Attached: BCB.jpg (1600x800, 383K)

Frozen Synapse has never been particularly popular.
After many bundles and many years, 1 only has like 500k owners and got like a thousand total reviews.
Synapse 2 has like 20k and got way worse reviews.

Also Ape Out, aka Hotline Gorilla with freeform jazz.

Are you sure the year exclusivity doesn't start once it comes out of EA, like said?

Actually yes, but only since getting a Switch

Also Gato Roboto, aka cat Metroid

My nigga

Maybe if one of you made a chart of recommended indie games, I'll take a look at some more obscure titles instead of the obvious hollow knight, braid, super meat boy, and shit.

minit was fun but nothing too special outside of the funny gimmick
crosscode was fucking incredible honestly, very good 2000's jrpg vibe same that .hack//GU or dark cloud 2 gave me
return of the obra dinn was also fantastic
zeroranger almost tied with celeste for my goty last year
deltarune good

its really light on story and pretty straightforward, but movement feels really satisfying
Anyone here with more platformers?
Already played:
>Super Meat Boy
>Celeste
>The End is Nigh
>Dustforce
>VVVVVV

How would you compare Aztez to other indie 2D stylish action/cuhrayzee, such as The Dishwasher, Fairy Bloom Freesia, Fight
n Rage, and Rain Blood Chronicles?

Same question applies to Aces Wild, as well.

140

What's your favorite ooblet, Yea Forums? Mine's Snurfler

looks a little too physics-based for my liking
celeste was my most preferred out of those and it has just the right amount of physics-based fuckery meanwhile the rest of it is straightforward dash distance

Oh and Electronic Super Joy.

Good taste, although I like Bittle a bit more.

Don't lump A Night in the Woods with all the good games

Any 3D indie games?

why the fuck is night in the woods in that image

Redpill me on Wargroove. Is it 16bit Xcom or 16bit Advance Wars?

This is what I could find, though I'm sure I'd read before that it will actually release on everything right after Early Access is complete
>supergiantgames.com/blog/hades-faq/
>If you’d prefer to wait until the game is 100% complete, we expect Hades will eventually be available on a variety of platforms, once Early Access is complete.

The fact that Supergiant doesn't give a time window unlike every other dev who's made exclusivity deals is a good thing in my eyes

Blanco is made by some Yea Forumstard.

Its Advance Wars with none of the charm.

Yooka Laylee
A Hat in Time
Penumbra/Amnesia/Soma
Legend of Grimrock
Rock of Ages

that one donut hole game

Risk of Rain 2

Yeah it's heavily momentum based but i always loved grapples in games
I actually played 140 now that you remind me. A friend gifted it to me!
Now why are the doors in Electronic Super Joy moaning?

Terraria is the best game ever made thus far. Shame you didn't include it in your list.

Attached: 1505503089730.png (1280x720, 295K)

The King's Bird is pretty good
youtube.com/watch?v=dRKlVe2pPwg

I haven't played most of those, but Aztez has a really impressive amount of mechanics. You have a weapon button and a shield button, and generally every string or attack one has, the other has an equivalent. There's a lot of movement options and attacks that you get out of those options specifically, as well as defensive options with counterattacks. You can also swap between weapons on the fly, and you get bonuses for swapping weapons mid-string. You also need to take a moment here and there to collect the blood you've spilled (which looks great since it's got that crisp monochrome on everything other than the blood) to fill a meter which you use to give you a super, which changes based on what god you choose to sacrifice to before the mission. It's not level-based, you just select a fight on each turn of the strategy game in a particular location.

Here's a combo video: youtube.com/watch?v=QQZGYwkwfgw

Aces Wild is a game that's all about momentum and flow. Strings move you forward and you can hold up or down to angle it slightly (as in your movement angled up or down), you have a dedicated button that airdashes towards the nearest enemy, air movement's momentum is maintained during your attacks, enemies bounce off of walls, ceilings, and floors like pinballs when you launch them, and your dodge's counterattacks often have you launching enemies away and/or traveling fast in a particular direction. There's also your Wild meter that builds up the better you do at the game and gives you more strong attacks but also subtly increases the difficulty as it builds. You can burn it on a Super attack, use small amounts for your airdash, or burn it all and get a penalty (adding length you need to make it full again) by using a defensive super that heals you. Nothing quite like it, since the closest thing was the Otogi games in terms of a very floaty action game where you launch enemies around the environment, but that was a 3D game.

user I don't think Terraria release within the last year

super niche game where most people only played it because "oh its new!" (including me)

hey that actually looks pretty decent

I took the indiepill with NitW, and was pleased with my narrative experience. Stayed a fan with the porn.

my favourite indie kinos I played in the last year or 2

SLAP CITY BITCH
SLAP SLAP CITY BITCH

Yes.

how do i shill my indie game here without being called a shill?

Takes a while to find people to play with.

use the word nigger
it worked for cat notebook

It's not possible. So just post it right now.

It's available on PS4 and XBone I think. The issue is that during development the WiiU was Nintendo's console so it came out on that instead of Switch. They've said they're working on a Switch port but the game came out 2 years ago.

Be upfront about the game being yours, answer questions about the game and development, post in-progress stuff, and maybe even give away a few keys if it's already out

Porn and free keys.

Beat Saber is an obvious one

These 2 combined. On the top of posting stuff in development, /agdg/ is a good place to put stuff, there's a fair few lurkers there.

Dunno if you're cool with more Sonic-influenced platformers, but Spark the Electric Jester, Freedom Planet, and Tembo the Badass Elephant.

Any ones that don't require a $300 down payment?

Just wanna plug that they just released a Shapes n Beats update with harder variants for each stage for everyone who already has the game

Attached: shapes and beats.jpg (1024x564, 53K)

Spark is great stuff. It's made by a Sonic fan game maker so it understands that side of it very well, but it also has some combat and Kirby-style abilities. The sequel is essentially the same idea but with Adventure-era Sonic instead of Genesis-ear.

N++

Same, it was supposed to launch a few days ago, but it's been pushed back to August 9th.

Pro-tip for UK bros, pre-order it from 365games. They import stock locally then ship it nationally, no international shipping headaches.
Gotten lots of JP/US Switch games from that site.

Pretty good

>the messenger
Dropped it after an hour, because the gamedesign seemed really bland so far. The art and the story weren't redeeming factors either. Does it get better at one point? I just don't get all the praise about this game

Is it OK to start with 2?

I started Steamworld Dig with 1 and didn't like it much and dropped it. Much later on I played 2 which was a MASSIVE improvement and loved it. Is Guacamelee anything like that?

Guacamelee 1 and 2 are nearly the same in terms of quality. 1 is excellent, 2 is also excellent.
Pretty much a "more of the same" case almost.

Drinkbox games often have promotions that if you own one game you can get another game on discount or whatever.

Depression simulator basically

depression simulator with jammin music

I own most the games you listen and whats in the picture.

I feel like I can say with some authority that almost everything you highlighted is shit.

You have some gal to make a thread like this and not highlight Dustforce, One Way Heroics, Salt and Sanctuary, Mordhau, Momodora or LiEat

faggot

Attached: image-1.png (676x478, 570K)

Momodora was hot garbage

Never heard this before, looks pretty good.

I also just got Gato Roboto because it was dirt cheap, and it's pretty fun. I can tell it's going to be a really short game, but it's a fun little Metroidvania with some nice movement going on in it.

I'll have to get around to checking out ittle dew, Pyre, and Steamworld Dig 2 then. They all seem pretty interesting.

I'm even pretty into indie games and I've never checked out a lot of these, shit's honestly hard to keep informed on.

mordhau already has regular threads fuckface, it doesn't need to be mentioned

Hollow Knight is much better than any Momodora game, and I enjoyed Reverie under the Moonlight. Shit only takes 6 hours to complete, and has pretty busted combat.

why nobody talks about fell seal: arbiter's mark?

I really like dustforce, but it is definitely not for everyone
it is very skill based, judging your performance on every stage and besides requiring better tech skill, the mechanics of most levels don't evolve that much.

For me, it's Radio The Universe.

Attached: radio the universe.jpg (640x480, 65K)

I bought Smile For Me on a whim. So far it's what I expected task simulator with the draw being quirky characters. Presentation is pretty good though.

The game isnt even out.

I guess that explains why I haven't fucking heard of it in actual goddamn years.

>finally playing through hollow knight completely blind
I like how the game constantly lacks enemies to heal yourself with, and the way nothing recoils from being hit but you have a stroke every time it happens to you.

The music and atmosphere is fantastic though.

Lethal league blaze sucked, and sunless skies has the worst pacing ive ever seen in a game besides sunless sea

They deserve it more than most AAA studios and they arent as expensive user. Are you homeless?

Aurion. Probably the best game developed by African devs.

>account created 2012

I'm worried. Is this one of those cases where it's literally one person doing everything and they're a psychotic perfectionist? I mean, it looks cool, but holy shit, that's seven fucking years

Attached: 1491261480823.png (720x400, 224K)

>30 dollars

That's why. Though it looks neat, I'll definitely book mark it and wait for a sale.

The first half of Spark was really fun, the second half falls off and adds way too many spongey enemies and clutters the stages.

I also felt like the second half of Freedom Planet was way too goddamn frustrating.

>I also felt like the second half of Freedom Planet was way too goddamn frustrating.
Why? It is better than spark.

More gameplay, better combat, worse story
Still fun for a bit, haven't played since they updated the starting area to be "more labyrinthine" which just made it a hassle to get from A to B

They said that it should be out this year but honestly, it isnt worth take 7 years in a single project even if it's your dream project.

>Is this one of those cases where it's literally one person doing everything and they're a psychotic perfectionist?
It's literally this, as far as I know. The game is supposed to be pretty much done now and release this year though. I also just noticed the guy finally put together a website and put it up for pre-order, so I guess this looks like a good sign.
sixesixesixe.com/

Not that other guy, but Spark I've played and adored the game, despite its technical faults. Fucking love the soundtrack too.
Freedom Planet I still haven't around to playing and resent that, but I'm holding out for a physical Switch release.

It will probably never happen but I'd love for Spark to get reworked with Chowdren. Spark and Freedom Planet are both Multimedia Fusion games (like Five Nights At Freddy's), and whilst Freedom Planet got the luxury of being recompiled using Chowdren, Spark did not.

MMF's default compiler is hot shit, Chowdren does good exports, and allows porting to consoles and mobile. AVGN Adventures also use Chowdren.

Is Unsung Story ever coming out? And if it does, will it be good? It was supposed to be Matsuno's grand return to SRPGs, but I don't thing he's even attached to the project anymore.

I really didn't like Freedom Planet's combat mechanics, and the game goes in heavy on them. Everything feels so slidey and awkward in that game, like it's hard to actually avoid taking damage. The game also showers you in healing items, which makes me feel like they knew it was hard to avoid damage and remedied it that way.

I want the lazy dog to hurry the fuck up.
If Chapter 1 is anything to go by, this will be better than Undertale with a less active fanbase to boot.

Attached: il_794xN.1755124547_lnt8.jpg (794x564, 40K)

That's weird considering I had no problems with the hardest mode of it and managed to avoid damage well, except for the last stage which is a hell of a mess.

>OP specifically mentions games within the last full year
>'Why aren't you talking about these games in the OP!'
Good job moron

From someone that didn't hate or dislike undertale but found the game just ok, deltarune was like a huge disappointment and a huge step back but honestly I dont know if that means much coming from someone that isn't very into self aware internet humor and too much anime like tropeys but thing was definitely cheesy (the original UT was but this one was 10x worse) writing and pretentious meta.

I dont think I am even curious or interested to follow the next chapters.

For anyone that wants to shill their game the time is now. Recommend some in development games. Yeah, I love to follow and discover new projects since I always get good surprises.

An interesting concept of an exploration game in which your lives only last 1 minute, so that you need proper planning and execution to do what you actually want/need in that minute. Seems to be good.
>Guacamelee! 2
A pretty solid Metroid-like. You explore, you get a new power which is both a new move in combat and allows you to explore paths which were blocked until that point.
>Lethal League Blaze
A fighting game which is basically Pong mixed with a fighting game.
>Return of the Obra Dinn
Everyone died on a ship and you need to figure out how with some sort of flashback ability. Good aesthetics, and pretty interesting game.
>Slay the Spire
Deck-building roguelite. I can't really say much more, it's about proceeding forward in a dungeon while building your deck with attacks and defensive moves.
>Wargroove
Strategy game heavily influenced by Advance Wars. Some questionable design choices IMO, but overall a very solid game.

>Wargroove

I will never forgive Chucklefish for botching Starbound so hard.

>Games in the last year
As expected of a traptard, too many dicks in their eyes to read properly.

Also it sounds like you only like games that are as short as your cock, learn some damn patience before you go around calling others faggots, faggot.

>Ralsei's ribbon and hug cutscene
>rouxls kaard's character
>Some of susei's dialogues that are cringe as hell by the way "hey, get back here and let me flirt with you!!!"
>Literally a Chad reference inside the game, that speaks everything

>School setting
> Isekai'd with powers and being the chosen one there
> Most of the characters follow too much their tropes

I have no idea why is it so hard for people to accept genuine criticism over this series.

>>rouxls kaard's character
>>Some of susei's dialogues that are cringe as hell by the way "hey, get back here and let me flirt with you!!!"

Wait how are these internet references?

why did you get sunless skies if you hated sunless sea.

What are Yea Forums's thoughts on Timespinner?
It launches on Switch and Xbone next week.

Attached: timespinner-listingthumb-01-ps4-us-06sep2018.png (1200x630, 875K)

literally the only reference in there is chad, and whatever it was is so throw away that I cant even remember it.

So no that isnt really genuine criticism, that's you being autistic.

The "isekai" thing is clearly building to something more.

I'll agree on the characters following their tropes a good bit though, but it is only the first chapter, so I'll hold my breath.
And even so they're enjoyable tropes.

Depends on if the team he gets doesnt fuck over the game.
Which is highly likely considering the leeches that are in the fanbase.

Isnt even my game, but looked cool enough for me to shill.
Saw it in the Yea Forums dev threads, and its one of the very few I hope get finished and do well.

Attached: Slimed.webm (1280x720, 2.91M)

No, if that wasn't true then you wouldnt have the internet loving certain dialogues and ironically relatable setences which is very common around tumblr as a way to speak. Don't pretend that the game was so self aware of ralsei that you had some cutesy events with him specifically to only reinforce that and the fandom ate that very well. My criticism was that everything I pointed out is what makes it cheesy as it is.

>if that wasn't true then you wouldnt have the internet loving certain dialogues and ironically relatable setences

That's not what fucking internet humor references means

Anyone big on Ghosts n Goblins clones like Cursed Castilla or Battle Princess Madelyn? Also, Wonder Boy-styled adventure-platformers (I guess Wonder Boy-styled games can be considered Metroidvania-lites) like Monster Boy & the Cursed Kingdom, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, and Aggelos. Also, was that River City Ransom Underground any good?

It did way better on Switch because of Japanese interest. Steam is mostly a western market, and it is hard to sell a shmup there.

Case in point: Westerners aren't willing to pay very much for shmups. They don't see them as games with very much value and the accessibility is low. Devil Engine is a very difficult shmup, as well.

I said self aware internet humor. References would only be the Chad. For tumblr that's funny and the game is self aware of it. So self aware to also make a smash joke one day before a direct, knowing people would get the bait and it happened. It doesn't even hide it and that's why it is so self aware.

This is getting an expansion soon. Two new ships and a whole new set of levels.

Almost finished 112% for Hollow Knight. Just need to do the 4th pantheon. Seems tough. Took me almost 2 hours to beat the 3rd one

I agree with you beat for beat. I liked both Undertale and Deltarune but I cannot fucking stand the self-aware ironic internet humor that characterizes Toby's writing, it's half the reason the game is so popular among the tumblr crowd and it's what draws in the ironic weeb types.
They're good games with interesting systems and I think their popularity is somewhat deserved, but you're right that the fanbase is absolutely rabid and cannot take even the slightest criticism of the game.
The humor is cheesy as hell and at times downright cringe. It's this self-aware, ironic tumblr speak and I fucking hate that people eat it up.

Only answering the ones I've played.

>Lethal League Blaze
One of the best versus games ever made I've never gotten so intense with friends before.

>Frozen Synapse 2
An infinitely replayable and heavy-duty strategy game with simplistic mechanics. Extremely fun multiplayer.

>ToeJam & Earl
It's literally the same game zoom zoom

>Return of the Obra Dinn
This one is super artsy and is a murder mystery So not everyone is going to like this one.

>Baba is You
Heavy duty logic game that gets harder as you progress will make you feel like a brainlet eventually.

From what I've heard, it's a time manipulation-based Metroidvania like Touhou Luna NIghts, but Luna Nights just pulls off the gimmick way better.

>with simplistic mechanics
I really would never call Frozen Synapse's mechanics 'simplistic.' Also shame the multiplayer's dead

It's got okay gameplay, but you'll want to skip all the dialogue. It's worth a playthriugh imo.

>Been delayed like three times already
It had better be fucking good.

I only ran through the ending once and I was pretty tired so it might just have been me sucking, but I remember just not liking how that game ended at all.

I played Shovel Knight Showdown at PAX East and it was pretty fun

What are the best indie games for the Switch? Already played Hollow Knight (loved it). Currently playing VA-11 HALL-A (comfy to play before I go to sleep) and Cuphead (not a big fan desu, gameplay design just feels frustrating for the most part)

The Dragons Trap remake was fucking perfect. Didn't really care for that Monster Boy game though. Anything from Locomalito, the dev of Cursed Castilla, is fucking great.

Any Yea Forumsindies I should take a look at aside from the two you guys have mentioned? Been looking for some obscure gems.

Gonna post some.

Just bought Hollow Knight on GOG. What am I in for? Should I play with keyboard and mouse or with a Xbox360 controller?

Controller

What the fuck is this then?

Controller, and a pretty solid metroidvania that's slow to start.

Hollow Knight: Silksong
Blasphemous
Eastward
Radio the Universe
The Last Night
Omori
World of Horror
Luminous Avenger iX
Drift Stage
Cyber Shadow
Dead Static Drive
Maximum Action
N1RV Ann-A
Synther
Blazing Chrome
Fight Knight
The Siege and the Sandfox
The Iron Oath
Valfaris
Flamberge
Doko Roko
Bloodstained
Genesis Noir
And probably a few others that I can't recall right now.

Isn't Dragon's Trap literally just an emulation of the original, but with fresh graphics slapped on top?

This one looks great too. Combat looks great, paced out by cute rice farming.

user you can't be forgetting Noita and Sable
youtube.com/watch?v=ZBLoffoZLH8
youtube.com/watch?v=y8bcIzVtLhQe

Plus some bonus content. The thing is, what seems to be a new coat of paint is really transformative to the experience. The original is preserved, but made much better.

Attached: wonderboy-comparison[1].jpg (1160x331, 226K)

It almost is. It's painstakingly made to be faithful to the original Master System game, but there are minor differences only the most hardcore fans would notice.

Is this game even coming out twitter.com/MookaTheCaveman/status/789932818126233600

I'll try it later. I kinda want to start playing something else lol

Can't wait for this, seems to be iterating on Valkyrie Profile's combat beautifully.

Devs are always posting work on Twitter. Dunno when, but it's coming along.

Attached: Indivisible-752x430[1].jpg (752x430, 62K)

It is going to be a fantastic game in conceptual and graphics terms but a let down in gameplay, I can almost feel it.

Attached: UqghqjBp.jpg (458x458, 34K)

One major thing they changed was the charm points system.

In the original game, shopkeepers won't sell you certain things unless you are charming enough.
Different forms and different equipment have different levels of charm. You can also acquire charm stone items to increase your charm on top of that.

Dragon's Trap remake does away with that entirely. Instead there's a single bonus weapon you can buy based on charm, and only if you've found enough of the hidden charm stone items in secret areas.

Same guys that made Fairy Bloom Freesia, right?

Edmund has made some great games but nobody seems to care about this. Seems like it would make a good mobile game, so I hope this one comes to Android, all his past stuff has only been on iOS.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. Hadn't played the game until the remake, so I never remember exactly what the changes are. I think it's really cool that the original password system still works though.

Obra Dinn was a real pleasure to play. I beat it in one sitting on a rainy Sunday while drinking whiskey and it was a comfy experience that I can't even recall when I last experienced. I wish it took more than seven hours but I suppose it would have started to drag had it gone on any longer and the cascade of deductions you make towards the end when a bunch of shit clicks all at once was pretty satisfying.

I guess they slipped my mind, but, honestly, I'm really not feeling Noita that much.
On the other hand, I just remembered Heart Forth, Alicia and that really deserves a mention too.

Attached: h4a_s401.png (640x480, 152K)

Same studio, but it's really hard to find info on them for some reason.

I thought it was pretty fun. The story was whatever but I thought the art and the time travel gimmick was cool. The second half of the game is a lot of backtracking but it leads to a lot of cool new areas. I think it’s worth seeing it till the end imo, free expansion is on it’s way too.

GIVE ME NOITA! I NEED THAT GAME! CORTEX COMMAND DOESNT SCRATCH THE SAME ITCH ANYMORE! FUCK WOMEN AND MONEY! I NEED NOITA!

What makes you think so?

Aside of the owlboy vibes, every video and gif of the game so far looks terribly boring and repetitive in terms of gameplay, the platform levels are designed like it is a metroidvania when the game is a platformer

I'll take this opportunity to post some unreleased and overlooked indie shit - stuff that I've legitimately never even seen mentioned anywhere

Dead Static Drive

These all look very interesting. I'm guessing they're either not out yet or have only been released on itch.io?

Then again, I've been plumbing the depths of Steam lately making lists of stuff I'm interested in and there's just an endless trove of indie games that received barely any attention, which is sad because a lot of them look really good. It's a great time to be into vidya, but with so many games competing for your attention every second a lot of quality stuff does slip under the radar.

Not even early 90s DOS games were as low res and compressed as what's in that screenshot. I don't know why people think this is a good look.

Octopus City Blues
All the games I'm posting are still in various stages of development and I'm not exactly up-to-date on a lot of them as well. Some of them might have demos out - I believe Naemo does, for one.
And I completely agree with your sentiment.

>there's just an endless trove of indie games that received barely any attention
I find that a lot of indie games still manage to get quite a bit of attention, either shortly after they release on in due time by making a break into some youtube channel or something. Even extremely bland projects like Gloom manage to get attention. I was under the impression that most indie games didn't get much attention but after starting to regularly use Steam Curators and other platforms I realized that Yea Forums is just a shit hole who doesn't like discussing video games anymore.

Attached: 1557001699380.gif (540x501, 1.56M)

>I realized that Yea Forums is just a shit hole who doesn't like discussing video games anymore.
I have made multiple threads requesting people that were genuinely interested in the gaming development scene and to know better how games are made along with some different things you might find out there but all I got was that I was a shill. Maybe it was better to ask in specific indie threads anyways. I usually lurk in the game development threads here as well.

UnDungeon

Attached: undungeon giphy.gif (854x480, 2.86M)

Not my game, but Eat the Dungeon has a playable prototype with a new version dropping in the next couple weeks and I like it a lot. Intuitive controls (drag the character portrait to the enemy or other party member to attack/heal/buff), good art, taking suggestions from people for new character designs.

It caught my interest for being my fetish but I actually found myself enjoying it and getting 3 full hours out of the current version without even jacking off.

Yea Forums seems infinitely more focused on squabbling about whatever trendy politics is going on or actively destroying all discussion about everything than actually doing anything worthwhile. People have become so untrustworthy and hateful and spite-filled that to see even the slightest amount of actual emotion is enough to send these fucks into a rage. If it isn't soaked in irony and an attempt to aggravate others, it doesn't belong on Yea Forums to some of these cunts.

KO Mech is a game made by a Yea Forumsirgin. He dropped like 40 keys in a thread one day. I haven't played it but it's a simple Bangai-O clone with mecha boxing.

I've tried starting discussions about vidya that aren't AAA shit or that somehow tie in to evil trannies and I can barely muster a discussion before getting a 404. Even in threads related to game development or the sort you'll get a bunch of bitter crab mentality shitters who personally attack anyone they can either to heal their broken ego or to get their dose of social interaction masked as "only pretending to be retarded". Even if you get a discussion on games that aren't flavor of the month going, it'll be riddled with contrarian niggers who just want to argue non-stop because the only validation they get in life is the sense of superiority from not agreeing with the majority on any given thread. Considering most social media or other forums are plagued with heavy moderation, I've started relying almost entirely on steam curators and the steam queue to find interesting games, while for non-steam games I just periodically browse other shops in the hopes of finding something interesting. It's been working out pretty well so far.

Where the fuck is this? This and King of Cards, fucking pieces of shit won't ever come out.

I swear a massive chunk of Yea Forums just seeks to destroy all discussion because it's the only way they can get their absolutely retarded "opinions" that are all hiveminded to hell to have any ground to stand on.

Outrage culture and E-Fame/Clout culture were mistakes, and combining the two has resulted in one hell of a drug.

>Chained Echoes
Out of all the ones you posted this one grabbed my attention the most. It's nice to see it got its kickstarter funding but it seems they're aiming for a September 2021 release so that's a shame.

Never played that game, how is it?

Baba is You is galaxy brain tier. Legitimately one of the best puzzle games of all time. I couldn't really get into Obra Dinn. The art and soundtrack were neat but the gameplay was tedious and I lost interest after examining 30-40 dead guys and still having no idea what the fuck was going on.

Dunno, I picked up a copy for Switch recently, need to get around to playing it.

My physical backlog is getting too big.

At least it's easier for me to ignore my digital backlog than a theoretical physical backlog. That would be a nightmare

is that an audiovestibular system?

Not technically indie since it had a publisher, but I recently beat Yuppie Psycho. The story and aesthetic kind of fell apart at the end and the gameplay wasn't super challenging, but it was a fun experience overall. Office horror is a neat idea and I wish they did more with it.

Attached: Yuppie_Psycho_mouth.jpg (1200x675, 47K)

I didn't finish it so maybe it gets better, but I found it unfocused and shallow. Exploration, not just shortcuts, is gated by fruits that you get from clearing out small pinball boards but with no measurable punishment for death/failure and the fruits respawning, it's more a test of patience than skill. The powerups are pretty gimmicky and most of the movement/navigation between boards is limited with single paddles taking you to a set destination - more like being able to walk and teleport between set points than the nuanced freedom that movement + jumping provides. Nice visuals for a casual adventure though.

For me, it's Terraria.

Edith finch was the first movie game i liked. Short and doesnt overstay its welcome

One of these days I'll give it a playthrough

It is really just an interactive movie, but its very creative and tells those short stories in new ways/spins. And its honest about being a movie game. Didnt hear of it before, just played it with a friend on ps4 because it was on ps+

Touhou 17

Oh really? I'm pleased to hear that, I like to see people's hard work being rewarded. Plus it makes me slightly less anxious about my own dev dreams.

>Plus it makes me slightly less anxious about my own dev dreams.

Just remember to properly localize (and not just run things through Google translate) for at least Japanese and Chinese and you could be rewarded handsomely for it

Bump for indies part 2.

Are there even any indie open world rpgs?

Garry's an absolute twat and his mod was an absolute fluke that happened in spite of his knee-jerk idiocy.

Is CrossCode technically open-world?

Indie games have filled the void for creativity that was lost by big developers starting with the previous generation. I'm glad they're doing well.

Nah, progression is pretty clearly gated off.

No I wouldn't say so. It's pretty linear in that you have to complete each zone to get to the next, with the areas being literally gated off

Noita is something I've had my eye on for a long time now and it should be coming out this year.
Also Barotrauma is releasing on steam in 3 days and I've only seen one post on this entire fucking website talking about it.

I only played Sunless Skies
It's honestly not that great
It feels tedious and I hate the "humour"

>Barotrauma
I still can't believe Yea Forums's imaginary game became a fucking thing

I'm not looking to make a shmup, it's not a genre I really have any experience with or interest in. I just found it discouraging to see a game that clearly had a lot of heart and soul poured into it not getting much praise. While I have a bunch of game ideas in mind, the first project I want to attempt is almost a VN.
