Wouldn't fit with the style unless overhauling heavily, if he's too similar to his source material he'll be stiff and look off, If they change his look/animations he'll be in a weird uncanny valley purgatory. There's no way of winning for either side since there'll be people mad either way.

honestly I'd love it for the stage potential, but at the same time the music wouldn't fit smash at all and would feel ridiculously out of place compared to every other track already in smash.

Because he's a solid color, Although you have a good point, When talking about the general look Steve has a 3D Model, He has Textures but they wouldn't fit with the exact style unless changed, And I don't think anyone wants him to look Uncanny with "Smash Styled" Textures.

nothing in particular, oldtimers are just upset their favorite characters that they wanted since melee(Banjo, Geno, Isaac et.) didn't make it so they feel cheated out of a spot by Steve.

Along with his animations being extremely stiff, given how Sakurai likes to keep characters close to their original appearance, his items would be fairly generic given that most of the MineCraft items are. The only thing differentiating some tools is the substance it's made of (Iron, Gold, Diamond, etc.)
