I may like Banjo over him, and you can consider me whatever, but I will give Steve a stern chance as I try to see the possibility of every character. I'll say the pros and cons of him. Steve is a character with a lot of potential that could be surprising when executed, he has many assests that could be deemed as "creative" yet fit the tone of Smash Bros. The stage he gets could be unique as it could change due to the low poly nature and the music would be calm, soothing and be funny to see! Similar to Pikman. His biggest draw back however is his character design in general. Unlike R.O.B or Mr. G&W who uses their games to their advantage, as well as body language, Steve is a character who was designed to be replaced by other avatars, including Mario now! And his movements are stiffer than any other gaming character, unless they totally redesign him, but then that would be a bad representation of Minecraft in Smash. All in all, Steve's addition would be one that catches of all players as an unexpected/expected choice that would represent the Indie crowd hugely! But his simplistic design and lack of character (even Piranha Plant had character in a Mario RPG commercial) would make people upset that an avatar took the place of a possible other character and that his design is a bit too blocky, even for Smash Bros.
