I honestly never expected ending changing romance, I always assumed that they go the God Eater/Toukiden route of go on a bunch of mission with your companion then do their personal quest and then congratulation there is now some special dialogue that implies that your companion has a crush/fallen in love with you.
Take the bath as example, in Toukiden if you went into the bath when someone of a different gender was in there and you didn't have a high affection with them they would kick you out of the bath but if you did it when you have high affection they would go:
"Well i-if it's you its ok."
or
"Now now, don't be so tense, let's relax together."
So it's likely that they didn't take the romance thing out but more that there was a miscommunication of what the 'romance' actually was.

So, how romance works in this game?

When a male revenant and a female revenant love each other very much he lubes up his bayonet with ichor and thrusts it into her bloodspring.
9 months (and a bit of handholding) later a little revenant pops out and you get to give them a name and style their anime hair.

Depends on which combat you go for.
I enjoyed the Sunset Bayonet + UngaBunga magic blasts because it allowed me to Quicksteps which cleans up the dodges a fair bit.
The Axe / Greatsword / Hammer combat feels a bit janky/floaty though.
There is a poise mechanic which scales off your armor, class and and weapon so you could just armor through everything if you wanted but on a paper-thin build like bayonet + GHX assault caster any hits stagger and if another mob hits you stagger again and again etc etc.

It's floaty and janky, but I enjoyed it.

No character creator ever has the right main hair piece for her and it pisses me off. They're always too flat, but then the spiky ones are too short or just spike upwards instead of having weight to them.

Anyone on a PS4 Pro? Respawning and moving between the underground is incredibly fast for me. Normal loading is faster than my X, too. Can anyone confirm this on their Pro?

Regular old uncleaned dust filled ps4 is kinda slow on loading screens for me.

It's a 6/10. very flawed in every regard.
The soundtrack is alright.
Gameplay is Dark Souls but not as good. Reminds me a lot of Musou gameplay.

This game needs more poofy 80s/90s anime fringes. This is a kludge but it works okay.
Gameplay is good, I love that one of the main weapon types is just a rifle with a bayonet. More games need bayonet combat so I guess I found my main.

It depends on what bayonet you are using. The weapons all have unique special (R1+square) attacks, iirc.

Yeah. The only weapons without unique special attacks/move set are the Pipe of Thralldom (joke weapon) and the Sunset Sword (decayed version of another weapon, but has a unique special attack)

Different Bayonets have different combos.
Some are better at dealing combos but others are faster but have a broken combo.
Lost Bayonet has an infinite light combo but Sunset has a 4 hit with last hit being a retreating attack which means you can't wail on the enemy forever.

The bullets they fire are also different, aren't they?

I thought the menus were actually pretty good for a console game. There's very little bloat in the UI and it was quick to navigate with a gamepad.

My problems were the janky animations, poor tells of enemy attacks and the shit multiplayer

Man, this game feels like molasses on the base PS4. It reminds me of DaS2 unfortunately.
The worst offender is the enemies' death animation, absolutely unreliable.

Another Soulsfag here. I like it a lot, but I can see why others wouldn't. As others have said, there is a lot of polishing needed, but I think the core mechanics are pretty good.

Combat's not too bad, but it does feel unpolished. No complaints about the menus. Running looks and feels weird and needs more audible sound effects.

After trying all the classes and abilities/weapons I'd say it's ok, good amount of options, and the ability to switch quickly and try each one out at anytime is a nice feature. If you like to grind then it's a decent game for that as well. Enemies drop useful items and equipment. Yes the combat feels janky but eventually you'll just get used to it like any other game and become one with the jank but it could be better in terms of animations/hit stun and impact/weapon weight feel.

All heavy attacks feel useless to me. Light attack spam does more damage.

The Bayonets hit fairly weak.
They hit exactly the same as a basic @ ichor gift but then what's the point of a gun if its replaced by a gift with less startup frames?
The gun needs to feel unique instead of "it's a gift but slower".
Being able to fire consecutive shots and aim between them would help.
I think charged bayonet shouldaybe do knockback?

I think the problem is that Bowblade is what the Bayonet should have been.
I like that Bayonets allow Quicksteps though.

I'm very much a baby shit when it comes to Souls games but it feels very much like the ones I've played as well as the others in the genre (BB, Surge, Nioh).
I pretty much only used the bayonet once I got it, but it did feel like you could stunlock enemies with light attacks.

You're right about the shooting, but the dodge is so superior to rolling I think there's a valid cause for the weapon's damage output to be somewhat lower. It might be a touch too much right now though, not sure, especially compounded by the fact you don't have a triangle button since that's wasted on the aforementioned shooting. Keep in mind you can charge shots, though, and different bayonets do different shot types (one in the demo's a spread like a shotgun).

When fighting on my Aset + GHX Assault + Sunset Bayonet build I would get a quick few hits in then quickstep out and fire a few spells.
My spells deal massive damage compared to the weapon, I only use it to regain Ichor, add chip damage and utilize Quicksteps.

It was okay, an average game, I'll probably buy it for the waifus if its reasonably priced.

Killed each boss 5 times or so, the blade bearer probably closer to 15 or 20 times.
Got the queen blade to +6 and the big sword to +6 to get some varied styles going.

All in all, the combat didn't feel that satisfying for a combat focused game though. And unlike say godeater, the monsters in this game didn't feel interesting like the big monsters in that.
