I'm fine with him being in because the roster is already so big and I'm not a whiny baby, but I'm hoping there's at least one DLC character I give a shit about. I don't care about Joker, or Plant, or Dragon Quest.

Unfortunately though, it seems almost none of the characters anyone is speculating about are anyone that I care about. I don't like Minecraft, I don't like Banjo Kazooie despite growing up with an N64 and those games, (I'm 25 and I didn't even like them at the time they came out). I don't care about 2b, I don't care about Doomguy or any of the other shit I constantly see being floated around online. I guess Sora would be "ok" for me and I'd try him out, but I wouldn't really get hype for him either.

Being realistic, I'm expecting Steve and either a Dark Souls character or a Monster Hunter character, maybe both. Those are the only modern franchises I can think of that are massively, overwhelmingly popular and have permanently changed games as we know it.

If they have to add in Erdrick they don't have to make him another generic anime swordsman, even if he will be insulted like that by all ignorant pieces of shit that roam the web, they have to add Dragon Quest gimmicks.
I don't know much about the series since I've only played 9 on the DS for a short time, but I have seen the characters in Fortune Street.

Maybe it was just because the Plant sold me on the idea of having a common enemy as a fighter but if we had to have a DQ rep I'd rather have Slime for a creative moveset and just have the DQ Heroes relegated to Mii Swordfighter costumes

I've got this nagging feeling that Joker will be the exception and not the rule.

Same but I kind of liked Plant, or rather, would have liked it more. It was a breath of fresh air from a moveset & playstyle perspective, but the character is honestly dreadfully bad. You don't even need to be a compfag to notice it. Move around & throw moves as the rest of the cast, then as Plant. It's kinda sad.
But yeah, same here: Don't like Minecraft, Kingdom Hearts, Mortal Kombat, Indifferent to most of Square's stuff & DOOM, Indifferent to Banjo which I also had in my childhood but could never really dig into much.
I guess i'm mostly fine with things as long as they're interesting enough, not too dreadful to fight, and bring good side content. I may not be fond of Joker himself as a choice or how he's executed in the game, but Mementos is a sick casual stage with great music.

Helps that Slime is the franchise mascot, has starred in spin-off games, and is far more recognisable outside of Japan than any of the main characters are.

I love Dark Souls and have played every Souls game on release since Demon's Souls, it's one of my most played franchises. A Dark Souls rep COULD be based, but the execution would have to be good. Generally I trust Sakurai, so I'm hoping it would be a true knight and be about as fast/big as Ganondorf except being a dedicated swordie. Go too far with pyromancy and lightning shit and you just have Robin 2.0, if they were to pick Artorius then I hope he doesn't end up being another character like Marth/Ike.

Agumon, Bass or X, Shadow, Bomberman, Ray 01 (I main Mii Gunner though so I'm mostly satisfied on the Custom Robo front), Blastoise, Louie, Bartz, Terra.

Basically assist trophies and characters that will 100% not be chosen if I'm being realistic.

I like Zero a lot, I would have mentioned him despite being an AT, but I figure why stretch it already when X is just as good anyways? Like Louie, I wouldn't want X to be a clone of Megaman or anything, obviously he has enough source material for an entirely unique moveset. Bass would be alright too but he would be my third choice for another Megaman rep.

What do you think makes a character "unique and interesting"? Their moveset or simply what they look like? I already said in my ideal world, Louie would be very different from Olimar, about as similar as Mario and Luigi.

Because what are his moves going to be? All of his normals/aerials will just be him swinging his sword in a direction. His down special will be a counter. Only his neutral, side, and up special will have ANY chance of being a move that we haven't already seen dozens of times in Smash already, and I don't have faith in Sakurai to even make those 3 moves unique anymore.

Dragon Quest is a big series. It has earned representation in Smash IMO. But if the rep we're going to get from it is just going to be "sword guy #28", then I have zero interest. Give me a character from DQ that brings a new moveset to the table and suddenly I'm not opposed to their inclusion anymore.

Dragon Quest, while important to gaming and the JRPG genre's history, is the safest, most bland JRPG series in existence. This extends to its characters too. If you're looking at it from a "video game history" perspective, Dragon Quest deserves representation. I hate that this is true. I hate that I can look at a character I'm not familiar with, see that he has a sword, and immediately tell what 90% of his moveset will be in Smash, including his down B. I know the "hurr anime swordsmen!" thing is viewed as a meme, but it really is starting to get exhausting to have so many characters with so many similar moves, only to anxiously await the DLC and find out that it's yet another sword guy with a down B counter. And this is coming AFTER Joker who swings a blade for the majority of his moves and has a down B counter. It's out of control.

Gonna be honest, dragon quest protagonists are boring, I have played some of the games and complete them and for the life of me I cant remember a thing about any of the random protagonists, they are just a character without any trace of personality, and each game is a new random boring character.

I will be much more pleased with the slime as the representative for the series, since they are "that one thing" everyone knows about dragon quest.

I want a main character who brings the game mechanics and style into Smash, and for DQ, Erdrick is the most important and coolest of the heroes.

So here is my reasoning why I prefer Erdrick over Slime.
Enix is fucking autistic about heroes not speaking, except in one single jarring comedic scene of DQ3 involving puff-puff.
As such, DQ heroes never show up in crossovers that have the characters speak, like Fortune Street or Heroes, where you have references to the heroes, but it is no fun to add a character that will just go '...' at every quirky dialogue moment.
However, in games where speaking is not important, like Battle Road, the card game, they are fine with placing the hero characters, and Smash Bros is one such game, where many mute characters are already present. As such, Smash is pretty much one of the few chances to play a DQ Hero in a crossover that is decent. For Slime I already have other games.

Jack Frost is a special case, being that Joker's default is Arsene and Hackurai probably couldn't/didn't want to make his moveset messy and overwhelming. Not to mention he was focusing on promoting P5 rather than SMT in this pack, so Jack Frost is more of a sideline persona rather than a mascot (also could be favoritism on Sakurai's end).
