If the developer, the publisher, or GOG itself shut down or take down the game it doesn't matter because you still have the installer. I would argue you own it even MORE than a physical game because you can make copies as many times as you want, unlike physical games that often use proprietary encryption to keep you from copying them

It’s a weird point to use against GOG, considering that it’s probably the most resilient form of vidya ownership if you are through with keeping the installed files. If you buy physical, you have only one copy, but with GOG you have servers AND as many physical backups as you’d ever want. If you ever get hit with a situation where you lose all your access to those games, it’s basically your own fault at that point.
