Why are Smash developers so lazy?

Because selling a big roster and dlc makes more money than balancing a game

>Most popular IP in the video game industry
smash isnt gta

Dude the game has just hit 6 months since release a fighting game should not have monthly patches, that gives almost no time for a meta to develop at all. I could understand bug fixes but hell no for monthly balance patches especially based on elite smash results.

Smash frontloads content. Splatoon gives you a barren game and adds to it frequently. They do this so they can scale the game's budget to how well it's doing, it's a way to get the game out way sooner but it's also a safety net. ARMs didn't do so well and it got dropped. Smash at launch still has an assload more content than splatoon 2 does now. They believed in Smash more.

Smash is good

>wanting a game like Smash to have constant balance patches
You'd just be constantly fighting yourself whilst learning a character, because every time you learn how to play with the current balance, the next would come along.

I'd like more quality of life and glitch related patches. Feels like they haven't really bothered to fix any of the really simple things like allowing not having to reselect your character and costume after every local game and toning down particle effects for matches outside of 1v1. This game is a hot mess of overlooked little shit

Not OP but I'd really like some Ridley buffs. Please?

Smash is not an esports game

>most popular ip
What the fuck am I reading

>shit characters should stay shit cause muh meta top tier lol get wrekt
Fuck you.

>comparing a fighting game to a shooting game

cope

>ARMs didn't do so well and it got dropped.

ARMs did do well and sold over a million copies. They just ran out of all the content they had planned. But it is sort of true that it didn't do well enough to get more content.

The argument is more to let those top players have time to figure out shit with the characters rather than constantly tweaking shit all the time. Plus I never understand these casuals who think the game should be balanced around what they think is best because ya know they play maybe a few hours a week casually so they know best.

Sakurai is a lazy hack.

I really only want him to be a super heavy weight, I think he's mostly fine outside of him not being nearly as heavy as he should be.

>not being nearly as heavy as he should be
t. never played a metroid game

>Why are Smash developers so lazy?

Because they know smash babbies are unwashed faggots who will eat up anything that gets sharted onto their plates and speculate if they're going to get an undigested corn kernel or curry infused stank next.

Characters with obviously glaring flaws should be buffed. How anyone can argue against that is beyond me. Not saying to update every week but they certainly should give the bottom to low mid tiers some love.

I'd be down for just buffing the underperforming characters, like how this patch buffed Rosalina, C. Falcon, and Lucario a shitton. Would love it if, say, Kirby, Ganondorf, Incineroar, and other trivially bad characters got the same treatment. Hell, just keep buffing Bowser Jr. until he actually has 5 matchups that are 50/50 or better.

I believe he means in regards to smash and his size. He gets juggled easy but can't survive to 200 like other heavies.

>Most popular IP in the video game industry

Pokemon is the single most profitable franchise on earth, though. I think you need your head inspected.

smash is a cheap all-star nintendo fighting game for children.
Yea Forumsirgins need to stop pretending that it is a proper fighting game.

>insignificant balance patches
This is code for “I’m not good enough to recognize how the changes affect how I play”

Shut the fuck up, Leffen. Learn those 60+ character matchups, you nigger. More characters being viable is healthy for the meta and the game.

Sorry I don't his weight has ever really been specified in a Metroid game but I really wouldn't even take that very seriously considering he performed atmospheric entry unassisted.

Air speed, framedata, and skewer sweetspot popping shields would do it for me. I'd love him to be super heavy but I doubt that's happening. Armor on up b would be nice too.

Still outsold by Mario and Tetris. Pokemon is just bigger as a multi-media franchise. It has more toy, anime, and movie sales.

And that's a bad thing. Game Freak will never make a good Pokemon game again until they taste loss

Make him heavier, DON'T improve his framedata BUT give him tough guy armor like Bowser has. Problems solved

What's a gta?

Not the user you were talking to but I don’t think you understand how early on the metagame is in its development. Month 7, with borderline 80 characters? It’ll take a while user.
Unless you’re talking about a specific glaring weakness for a character that I’m not considering?

My point is there's definitely undiscovered tech on those characters you double nigger, give it some time to develop.

He can fly, of course he'd be lightweight. Birds have to be light to fly. Dragons would never be able to fly, at least as they are depicted in Western media, because they're too big. Ridley is skinny as fuck and light enough to fly.

Attached: DAyeS[1].png (644x244, 30K)

Mac, Ridley, Rool, not sure if Puff got buffed enough or not.

That doesn't mean shit in the face of the top tiers, who also aren't completely developed yet, because they have way more tools. Kirby most definitely does not have any tech that would make him viable. Even if he had aerial wavedashing that let him up-smash while sliding at you in the air, he still wouldn't be viable.

In regards to balance you dork. Mewtwo is really heavy in Pokemon but super light in Smash.

What are their glaring flaws?

The tiers are already pretty solidified, just some specifics are fuzzy. Luigi probably would've made it to top tier if he retained his 0-to-death before the nerf. But there are very few other characters that are up for debate.

Mewtwo is light because he's always floating around using telekinesis. Ridley doesn't have magic, he's a space dragon. His weight is spot on.

GTA isn't Pokemon.

I've always thought mewtwo's niche in smash is that he should have fantastic recovery with his long floaty jumps and teleport, but was heavy and also hard to hit off.

Outside of a complete character rework there's many characters who are unfortunately just screwed competitively but for the sake of a healthier meta overall especially in a game with a cast this size it really just needs time for things to be figured out. Once they've had enough time and tournaments to accumulate data should they do any massive reworks for characters like Kirby.

>Mac
D-tilt still doesn't combo into KO punch, while it did in Smash 4. KO punch is more likely to whiff. He's even easier to gimp now that his side-b doesn't reset if he's hit out of it in the air. His grab is still pitiful, as are his aerials, in a game where grabs, aerials, and aerial mobility are king.

>Ridley
His recovery is garbage. The up-b especially is just a gimped version of the Starfox recoveries, having all of 4 angles, and being even easier to gimp. His landing options are abysmal, especially considering how shit his down-air is. Due to his large hitbox, and the aforementioned issues, he is extremely easy to 0-to-death, while he has a hard time playing catchup due to lack of kill confirms.

Too many changes ruin competitive games more effectively than some lingering balance issues, which the updates easily make even worse. See what's happened to Overwatch.

They also made him hit like an absolute truck, fitting his massive attacking stats, so he had to have one fatal flaw. Being a heavy with long range, high speed, high damage, and amazing recovery is a recipe for disaster. Not for the character, for everyone else. Having him float due to telekinesis is a good trade off.

Fuck your meta. I care about the lower end of the tier lists being brought up to at least mid. Hell that wouldn't even hinder your doowop shinedunk dickflick top tier pro play. Unless you're afraid of less shit characters you can curb stomp?

DotA and League do just fine with constant balance changes. Smash has nothing anywhere near as drastic as some of the changes in those games.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with monthly, or bi-monthly, balance changes for the game, especially ones like this week's patch, which did wonders for low tier characters while also giving a slap on the wrist to top tiers to keep them in line. Wolf getting his blaster nerfed was one of the best changes yet. The Pichu, Peach, Olimar, and Lucina changes were also all warranted.

Since I doubt they'll give him Fox's recovery, would letting him up b twice help?

Why not give him 6 jumps like the rest of the multi-jump characters? (Dedede, Kirby, Puff, Meta Knight).

If Ridley sticks around next game, I'd like to see him getting a glide out of his up-b, a-la Brawl Meta Knight/Pit/Charizard.

In my mind a solidly defined tier list is like Melee’s or Brawl’s, that is, every character match-up has been evaluated. There are 1,482 non-mirrored 1v1 matches in Brawl, and even with that amount they were able to weigh a substantive tier list, though not with as much credence as is with Melee’s (less match ups mean less time spread focusing on different match ups, alongside the game’s comp scene still existing for 17 years)

I really don’t think Ultimate is anywhere near that

We've more or less got the list pinned down, with maybe 20 outliers that could rise or drop a tier (tier straddlers, like Ganondorf straddling bottom/low, Roy straddling top/high, and etc).

It's not perfect yet, but Smash 4's wasn't set in stone until a year after it came out, and then it got disrupted by Corrin, Cloud, and Bayo.

>Why not give him 6 jumps like the rest of the multi-jump characters?
Six would be way too many, but I think adding one more to his current three would be fine.

How did the addition of Bayo/Cloud/Corrin disrupt the progression of a tierlist? If anything, they’d just be floated to wherever place their results deemed. Or am I dumb and you’re talking about the metagame itself?

Also I want you to know that people initially deemed Lucina as shit because she was considered to be Marth with training wheels/low reward Marth but when people were making results with her, it showed that the lack of her tipper wasn’t a hindrance, but instead made her playstyle more aggressively than Marth’s because she didn’t have to meticulously space herself

>Ganondorf
Ultimate Ganondorf is strong enough to be pulled out at tourneys and to oppress online play. He's high mid if not low high tier.

Attached: 1137370790.jpg (400x297, 20K)

>aimed towards children
that's just shitposting, splatoon devs were clear from the beginning they wanted their game to be satisfying for all sorts of players including competitive inclined ones

Really the only Ganon I've seen in a meaningful top 8 was Nairo's and even then he's lost when he has pulled out that Ganon. People still highly overrate him since he seems much more powerful online with delay than he does in tournament.

Pokemon is the most popular game in the world smash doesn't come anywhere near it. The only one coping is you.

It wouldn't matter how well it did they were going to move on from it regardless. Hell, Splatoon 1 didn't even get all that much content wise.

They should tie it in to his mechanic and make it so he is heavier than he is now but when he hits 150% and his damage is halved his weight is reduced to less than it is now.

>make him heavy
>but take the advantages of bring heavy away while keeping the downsides

He dies at 80% at his current weight tier to frame 6 smash attacks anywhere that isn't centre stage kneecapping him at 150% is a reasonable compromise if he can survive those fast smash attacks anywhere that isn't the edge of a stage.

He definitely doesn't die at 80% that low balling a lot. Regardless this whole halving his weight and damage at 150% is just unneeded even increasing his weight to super-heavy class would still only make him decent, he still has a lot of problems but it's a fair compromise to keep his current weaknesses.

>halving his weight
Holy shit I wasn't implying making it that brutal, that shit would be ridiculous I was thinking maybe a 10% increase sub 150% and 10% decrease post 150% relative to his weight now.

see

Regardless I don't really think anything about Ridley's kit would be considered strong so I don't think he needs any nerfs nor would increasing his weight make him super strong just potentially competitive with a lot more of the cast.

If you were to make him heavier, you'd have to lower his frame data to something similar to that of Charizard

The real reason, OP, no meme, is that the small competitive community cares a lot more about a superior game that doesn't need any patches.

Attached: WizzrobeAmsaEgg.webm (640x360, 876K)

Not really he's still not going to be anywhere near the top tier even while being heavier, his current kit just isn't great so making his moves slower may actually make him much worse than he already is.

>Wants competitive game to get constant balance patches
That's a fucking mistake you ill-informed moron

Attached: SFV Header.jpg (460x215, 43K)

After all the bitching from Ridley Bros/fags I find out his weight is actually 107 units and he is pretty god damn heavy after all. You guys complaining about his weight every single thread is misleading, sure he isn't as heavy as Dedede, but he shouldn't be. He can literally kill half the cast off of landing his side b because he's so good at gimping. If you're playing someone like Cloud or Incineroar and you die getting hit offstage once Ridley is a very polarizing character.

I'm not saying he's great, or that he couldn't be better, but he seems to be a solid mid tier and yet he's complained about more than any other character besides maybe Jigglypuff who is honestly worse than him anyways.

Yeah he gets practically 0 results at any tournament he's in and most top players consider him in the bottom 10. He has A LOT of problems outside his weight but the compromise most Ridley player's want is the weight increase because he has all the negatives of those super heavy weights but doesn't have the benefit of that weight so he gets juggled as easily as those characters but dies way earlier he's probably the easiest character in the game to 0-death.

It did well enough to get some content but content dried up when interest did. It's not Splatoon is what I'm saying.

This. No one understands that a competitive game needs a consistent meta. That's why Fortnite dropped in popularity imo, everything is constantly changing

Most of the characters in smash get no major tournament results that's just how things work yet I don't go into every single smash thread and see the doctor Mario mains bitching or the Kirby mains bitching or the duck hunt mains bi- ok maybe the duck hunt mains bitch a lot too.

But still, look up some of Trelas sets with Ridley he has won tournaments with him in Texas. I don't play Ridley at all so maybe he actually is that shit, I don't know, I'm just saying he's far from the worse yet he is the most complained about. And I don't recall any tier lists I've seen putting him down as bottom ten, give me a source for that claim.

I think it comes down to the fact that some of his bad match ups are literally unplayable while that is something you can avoid if you are playing local co-op but when you are forced to sit through a 7 minute online match and have to resort to playing a cancerous levels of defensive for 7 minutes to try for SD because you have no other options its no surprise they are vocal as fuck.

youtube.com/watch?v=OV3oO_I4eEY like 8 miniutes in.

I guess on some level I can understand because I think meta Knight fucking sucks in this game and that bothers me too, but ultimately other character I quite like I do find a way to eventually get usably good results with them. Maybe Ridley really is just that ass, I could be wrong.

90% of Pokemons profits dont come from video games though, so it cant be the biggest video game IP (neither is Smash btw)

I did some digging because after seeing that I was curious about if you were right about a consensus on Ridley being bottom tier.

You're definitely right that nobody is giving him high praise, I'll tell you what I found.

Zero agreed with void that he's basically shit.
Dabuz and ESAM both put him as high mid tier actually.
Leffen doesn't care about him, but desu who cares about leffen?
And as for the actual results based tier list using PGR data compiled on smashboards (pic related) there's 27 characters below him. Now obviously you can only take so much from just results alone, but it is at least a piece worth considering.

I'm still thinking he's probably just a mid tier all things considered. But, given how polarizing his kit is, I wouldn't disagree with you that there's matchups in this game that certainly would make him feel like a shit tier character, but a lot of really advantageous matchups as well.
