They literally turned Dancer into just another thief-style DPS. I mean, wtf. Pretty much no job in FFXIV actually has any individual identity, they are all shoehorned into one of three archetypes.

Going back to play XI while XIV is dead really drives home how badly XIV failed to deliver on the most basic elements of both an MMO and a Final Fantasy game.

FFXI was made with love, FFXIV was made to make as much money as possible and embrace wow players after they saw what a failure it was.

Which is fine, but it is what it is.

Hopefully the next mmorpg they make will go back to what made ffxi so good.

pretty much, FFXI was a love child of matsui while yoshi was just put in to make a skinner box. Yoshi was test driven on FFXI and came up with the ever amazing abyssea, also known as the content that almost killed FFXI entirely.

To be far YoshiP was brought to salvage and unsalvageable mess. Totally changing it was the deemed necessary and they made what is, essentially, a modern MMORPG.

nah, ff11 was based on everquest as seen through the lens of asian mmorpg audience which was always way heavier on group play. don't forget lineage was already a thing. ff14 is basically what said - a modern mmorpg and those are all largely interchangeable.

FFXI is an incredible game, its like you are playing an offline RPG sometimes if you know what i mean, it feels like it could function entirely on its own merits as a game even if you took away the online aspect and just tweaked the content to suit it. Most MMOs completely fail as games should you take away the online part, because they are based around keeping you addicted with menial shit like dailies and raids, and not actual content.
