Ehh, barely. It still destroyed Midgar and forced the planet to wash it over with lifestream juice (which lead to the plague in AC). It only worked because the gang killed Sephiroth in the crater.

Aerith was praying for Holy but by the time it worked Meteor was already too close to planet and it didn’t work effectively.
Then Aerith guided Lifestream to form a barier to shield planet from Meteor and it worked.
So in the end if Aerith didn’t die, Planet would get destroyed (Holy would not work and there would be no one in the Lifestream to guide it to surface).
That’s how I’m understanding it.

It's very overrated. Final Fantasy has never been a very good series, just the most popular.

Sephiroth knew as the last living Ancient that Aerith was the only person capable of using the Holy Materia to counter his plan to use Meteor.

What Sephiroth didn't realize was that Aerith intentionally allowed herself to be killed because she couldn't use Holy alone, she needed to be within the Lifestream for it to work.

And none of this fucking mattered at all because Holy doesn't even do the one fucking thing it was designed to do, making her sacrifice and giant reveal at the end meaningless.

We haven't seen a lot about combat system. My opinion is that LR has the best combat in the series, but that was for one character only. How would that work in a game with more party members, I don't know, but I would love to see it again. And I hoped we'll see it in the remake. (you know, cos Lightning is basically Cloud, blah blah blah...) Combat system could be good, it just needs to be completely different from what we got in XV. As long as commands (attack, spells, using items, using skills...) have cooldown and not just mindless spamfest, I'm fine.

I haven't played XIII, but how is Lighting similar to Cloud, aside from looks? Isn't she really stuck up and emotionless?

I think jenova was in the shina building because it couldn't do much to advance it's goals after sephiroth died but when cloud got close it felt itself nearby in a capable puppet. At that point I think it read cloud's mind and took the form of sephiroth from his memories and escaped to start the reunion, which is why you encounter it as sephiroth even though his new body is still being formed elsewhere.

A lot of people argue about whether sephiroth is controlling jenova or vice-versa, but honestly I think it's neither. Jenova isn't a person, it's an eldrich space monster like The Thing. Sephiroth has his own motives but they're all coloured by jenova's influence over him, he sees jenova as his mother but if you could ask jenova who sephiroth is, it wouldn't even understand the question because it's another piece of her. Sephiroth's goals ARE Jenova's goals not only because her cells influence his thoughts but because sephiroth is a part of her.

Probably Dine from Before Crisis. However her existence contradicts Final Fantasy VII (Because Bugenhagen and Red XIII don't know of her in private conversation, so it can't even be that they're keeping her secret from the party.), so you should refer instead to Bugenhagen's dying words, that maybe they're mistaken and Red XIII isn't the last of his kind, so he should go out there and search the big wide world after Sephiroth is killed. We are then to assume that he finds a mate.

Incorrect. Aerith never intended a self-sacrifice (As Tifa said she believes, Aerith was always talking about the future and didn't intend such.) and her prayer reached Holy before she died. Sephiroth spends the rest of the game holding Holy back. It's not a heroic sacrifice. That's one of the aspects that make it non-Hollywood and effective.

I always just assumed it was the planet protecting itself using the lifestream. Bugenhagen explained that the planet could wipe out humanity if it felt that it was a detriment, so the cutscene shows how humanity has redeemed itself by fighting to protect.
I know it shows Aeris at the end of the cutscene, but that doesn't imply that _everything_ was through her actions.

The reason is his reactions while speaking to the Shinra president and the upper management. He is the one being shocked by the plan to flatten sector 6 with the plate. Every time he's shown, he is in an argument with them. Him going double agent could be interpreted as snapping I guess.
He's also the one that rescues everyone in midgar before the meteor hits (with vincent and yuffie).

In general, Shinra has a lot of traitors. Domino, the mayor of midgar, only helps you because he hates Shinra. The entire staff of the Highwind deserts Shinra because Cid is fucking cool.
