Super Paper Mario was the final straw I guess, and when future Paper Mario games were being made he cautioned them to not just port TTYD. I don't know if the lack of OCs is directly related to the decline in the writing quality or the stupid literally paper meme, but it doesn't help it.

this user gets it. TTYD is terrible for repeat playthroughs, also PM64 is paced much better.

I love 64 as well
Hell looking back I even liked Super but it was the weakest of the three.
I dont want to think about Paper Mario after that point
