Honest to God, I would be happy with literally ANY fucking Dragon Quest hero post-3 except for DQ6. Erdrick and the DQ1/2 heroes are so much uglier than the rest. DQ8 would be the best pick.

Erdrick is more than your normal sword boy, faggot. He can shoot lighting, fire, use air attacks, and would have a counter.

There's so many anime swordsman because Sakurai makes every character fit one of four character models. One of which is swordsman. Also because, like it or not, the main characters in most Japanese games tend to be sword wielders. They're not exactly going to put Hakoruru or Billy Kane in Smash Bros, as much as I'd like it.
And slime doesn't fit any of the four character models. So I doubt they'll do that.

Dragon Quest MCs are generally part of different classes than just "generic sword boy". The current Smash Fire Emblem reps (save for Robin and maybe Corrin) are boring as fuck because Fire Emblem generally locks Swordfags out of fun shit like magic and whatnot. DQ heroes always have access to magic, with some of them (such as DQ5 and DQ9) not even being sword-based classes at all.
