Like most generations, it starts with one bad decision, then they double down with another,then they go back on some of their bad decisions and start making others, then you get an XBone at launch that has a camera built-into it that you can't turn off or a six-core processor that has nogaems that support it or a lame mock-up of your previous wagglin' console that has a second screen that no one asked for.
Sony is getting out of touch and I suspect the first of the awful decisions about the PS5's design will come to light shortly.

The PS2 was great. The PS3 had a shit start but came into its' own.
There is little advantage that the PS4 has over the last two generations aside from Sony at least understanding that it has to fund games to get games. Something Microsoft just forgot because I imagine it's ran by monkeys at this point.

They said this about the Vita, too. The fact of the matter is that just because they won't repeat the *same shortcomings* doesn't mean they won't have a set of new shortcomings.
The PS2 was the most underpowered console of its generation if we don't count Dreamcast in the same gen. Multiplatform games were always better on Xbox and even Gamecube. The only real difference is the same difference PS4 has now. It has a ton of games including the lesser more niche games from Japan. That is it. How about just admit that for whatever reason Sony is just dominating this industry as far as support goes? They have yet to have a flop of a gaming console not called the PSP Vita which was a handheld anyways. Not a single one of their home consoles as of yet has sold less than 80 million units. I can't see PS5 being any different.

When you go look up the sales breakdown of the sixth generation and fifth you begin to see the bigger picture that Sony has been dominating this industry in reality for decades while Nintendo has stayed relevant due to very strong brand loyalty from their diehards that are zealot like in their love for Nintendo. The only gen that had proper competition was the last one when both Microsoft and Sony were fighting hard to gain the most marketshare by seducing the casuals with the biggest AAA games. Once you lose the casuals' good grace and they go to the competiting platform, your console is already beaten. This is the case here. The PS4 was objectively the most powerful console this gen (before the mid gens) and with the right marketing deals (like pretending tht the latest COD was only in the PS4 with the ads and whatnot) Sony "tricked' the casuals to go their way.
Sony has to be careful for next gen. COD/GTA/Fifa casuals dont give a fuck about brand loyalty and they go where it's the most satisfying for them.

Console manufacturers sell at a loss on launch, and get discounts for buying in bulk. PC has literally never beat console near launch for bang-for-buck.

Switch has done way better than Wii U for them but that is only because Wii U was a shitshow and most Switch buyers are the hardcore. Xbox is only still relevant because they to are being held up by their die hard fanbase that they at least built up the previous two gens. Sony pretty much has Europe and all 3rd world countries to themselves.
That's not the reason people buy Sony consoles in Europe. The real reason is that Sony treated mainland Europe as a first-class territory with full localisation when other console manufactuers didn't, creating a lot of brand loyalty and consoles being synonymous with PlayStation.

I know people were crazy about Xbox Live, Halo and open world games like Morrowind getting ported but here in Europe Counter Strike and multiplayer games like Warcraft and games like Gothic were already incredibly popular on PC. Xbox was more of a niche

I think we are looking at a 350 and 500 dollar box for Microsoft, and Sony sneaks in at 400. Everyone always takes a loss, but I think Sony needs that 400 dollar which isn't TOO expensive but also doesn't look cheap.

It wasn't really so much a a 'reveal', it was a low-key tease to get in front of the competition. I thought it was pretty smart - give enough detail to provide a taster of what they're going for but minimise specifics until everything is locked down. Get everyone ready to know the PS5 is coming but not too soon. Kind of took the wind out of any MS hype.

I think MS releasing a $350 and $600 box would kill them. The $350 box would be dead, as no-one wants to buy the shit version, and the $600 box would be too expensive to gain significant traction.
Releasing a super-powered version later once you have an install base makes a lot more sense.
I own an Xbox One S and I'm happy with it too, but the Xbox One X is a different proposition to having a two-tier system at launch.
I think it would confuse the market and lots of people would end up buying neither, as they don't want to buy the low-end version but don't want to pay a fortune for the high-end version

Microsoft wasn't that far behind in the Euro market, it has all the games Sony has like FIFA and shit. They also had the exclusive deals with EA for those games.
The problem was the 360 tapered off hard with how they marketed it with the Kinect investment, while Sony was pushing exclusives and Microsoft waddled with Gears Judgement and Halo 4 at the end. Even Reach wasn't that well liked until NSNB

And there's already a viable and highly lucrative business model of just selling digital copies of last-gen games.
My guess is that, if we do see this sort of charging, Sony will charge for "PS5 enhanced" upgrades of old titles, while letting the base PS4/PS4 Pro version work for free on the PS5.

Sony has done a lot of stupid shit this year. I wouldn't put anything past them. They're clearly out of touch and not concerned about players anymore. The only reason they're still moving units is because they have 7 years of games from BEFORE they went full-retard behind them. But now they're making a brand new console, full-retard-ahead. This, I've said it before they should just focus on smashing out a bunch of interesting mid budget titles instead of only trying to make their "big" games stick despite most being shit, bring back old IPs too like crimson skies etc. Nintendo is irrelevant because they do their own thing and are currently successful anyway.
