This pretty much. Another thing I would say is that the protagonist's arc is, aside from being well executed, pretty relatable and straightforward despite the game's scifi trappings.
What is it that makes it such a timeless classic?
>Goofy cast of likeable characters
Which is what Squeenix has fucked up time and again after in spin-off media, making things too serious and bone dry to be engaging while amping up the emo and pop idol music video tier ridiculousness.
Which is why fans should not be too excited over the remake. It's going to be Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children edition.
millenials first RPG, it was on every fucking platform and mass marketed as the second coming of jesus.
It's the fucking music. Sets the tone for each location and makes it memorable.
The subversion of the diverse cast. People think Tifa's a slut but she actually puts on a mask and locks her heart. People think Aerith is conservative but she's actually a dirty whore which is why she's a flower girl.
Don't mind me, just posting the best track.

this, its typically babby's first turn based RPG that isnt pokemon
Honesty? The music. When I think about this game a few choice songs start to play in my head, the Turks theme, the battle music, boss battle music, the shinra theme.
This games atmosphere was and still is off the charts. The characters were all clouded in mystery and had nice development throughout the game. Having Aeris get off'd half way through also pulled you into this world and made you actually care, and made Sephiroth/Jenova feel like a villain worthy of your time. Thats another key part that modern games fuck up, the villains are always some half baked god or something. If you dont develop some sort of borderline disgust in the villain youre not going to care about much of anything else.
I disagree, my homosexual friend. It's this track:

Every charachter feels like a person instead of an NPC. They each have shit they work through during the events of the game so that by the end they're all relatable.
Vincent lying to save lucrecia, Barret saving Corel after bearing the weight of damning it, Cid realizing that Shera was right and he's been treating her like shit for saving his life & dreams ect... Every character had their own arc that wasn't a fucking ramen advertisement.
>music
>story (great setting, characters)
>not difficult (high accessibility)
>artwork (memorable designs, elaborate backgrounds)
>great value (will take a long time to beat, longer to complete)
>groundbreaking for its time, blew people's minds by being like an epic movie
